New thread as part 2 is nearly full.

Part 1 is here.

Part 1 was started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Part 2 is here.

In part 2 we mainly discussed the legality and human consequences of Operation Protective Edge.

I am on my phone backinthering. Glad that's the noteworthy thing that stick out about my post :/

Emma I really do hope they do and come to some agreement. But no I don't think it will work. I don't think either side hold the others people in any sort of regard and have too many zealots. What I meant about net was that israeli's wanted a right wing leadership and he is delivering on his promises.....

AndHarry · 28/07/2014 21:35

Thales do all sorts of stuff. Telecoms I think.

Backinthering - that Molly Malone pic reminds me of the SA government's "reds under the beds" scare tactics. They used to say to white South Africans - "If you vote for the PFP (the anti-apartheid party which promised to hold a proper election as soon as they got into office), then you'll end up with a communist government!"

And then to the rest of the world: "If SA ends apartheid it will become communist, and then the Russians will have complete control of Africa (because to be fair lots of African governments were at that time socialist/communist), and then you'll be next Europe and America!"

They used to try to scare the rest of the world by reminding them they were the last bastion of freedom against the wicked commies!

But seriously, the Israeli state must be slipping - don't they realise that just looks like nasty Islamophobia?

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 21:50

UAV Tactical systems

somewheresafe · 28/07/2014 21:58

It says a great deal about Israelis that they voted for that murdering lunatic bibi, and that over 90% want the bombing to continue.

I'm sick of genocide apologists accusing those in favour of palestine (currently 90% of the world) of not looking at the bigger picture or understanding the situation. It's a poor pathetic argument. Those in favour of palestinian freedom have usually arrived at that viewpoint having looked at all the evidence from both sides. Apologists only tend to examine israels viewpoint.

I'm glad the world hatred for israels massacres are trending on twitter.

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 21:58

BAE systems.

Wishyouwould · 28/07/2014 22:16

Agree somewhere

Just seen a baby girl has been born in Gaza through a posthumous c-section after her parents and brothers were all killed by an Israeli airstrike - too upsetting for words.

Boycott, divestment and sanctions absolutely must continue.

AndHarry · 28/07/2014 22:25

This is a summary of the arguments used by supporters of the Israeli government's actions in Gaza.

Genocide apologists? Hamas are terrorists so does that make you a support of terror? Very simplistic view

90% of the world- where are those figures from exactly?

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 22:32

AndHarry, I actually thought the author was making a point through irony initially. Scary to think that actually sounds plausible to anybody.

runes · 28/07/2014 22:36

wannabe Zionist terrorism helped found the state of Israel. You clearly support Israel so does that make you a supporter of terrorism?? Or us it only terrorism when it's the other side? Hmm

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 22:43

Those supporting Israel's actions now are applauding state terrorists. What's the definition? What do you have to do to be a terrorist? Applaud or justify or defend the deaths of children at play?

somewheresafe · 28/07/2014 22:47

Wannabe all you talk about is Hamas. The truth is that Israel is punishing the palestinians for Hamas existing.

And there you go with your 'simplistic' comments. Seriously, the simplicity of thought here is yours. For every child being murdered by the regime you support your answer is Hamas. How simplistic is that.

Even the BBC news night programme has finally started showing the real picture. Everyone knows the truth.

bakingnovice · 28/07/2014 22:51

Dore Gold on news night. Good god this man is vile. Arguing that the idf are moral because they designed a leaflet when telling palestinians to evacuate. You steal their homes, their land, their olive trees, their livelihoods, their water, their gas, their sanity, their freedom, their self esteem and dignity but they should be grateful you leaflet them before murdering them.

How fucking dare he mention Britain's efforts in ww2 and compare it to israels massacre. Oh the fucking irony.

AndHarry · 28/07/2014 23:04

That article was in all seriousness posted by my far from unintelligent friend as an expression of their views on the situation, in which they are interested and involved at both a personal and a political level.

OP posts:
AndHarry · 28/07/2014 23:10

This is my problem with the political debate over this conflict: It's too simplistic. I have seen very, very few people or organizations even trying to look at it in context, with rights and wrongs acknowledged on both sides. Most people either take the view that Israel is right (to cries of 'genocide supporters!') or that Israel is wrong ('terrorism supporters!'). Where is the straightforward report of the facts? When did this refusal to even consider that you might be wrong become the norm?

OP posts:
Springheeled · 28/07/2014 23:11

Dore Gold vomit and how long he was given to trot out his shit- I'd like to hear more of the voices of the parent and friends, the voices of Palestinians. Where is their right to the airwaves?

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 23:19

andharry I'm not entirely sure that's true in that I haven't heard anyone voice support for Hamas, for example. Nuance is there in people's arguments.

zinher · 28/07/2014 23:26

Just saw twitter and my heart has sunk. Israel is bombing everywhere. Heavy missle attack. Can't even begin to imagine the terror the people must be going through.
Saw that one boy had tweeted a week ago that just she'll my house so I can get some sleep am tired of the waiting and the next day his house is shelled and he died.

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 23:36

Oh zinher

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 23:37

Watch Al Jazeera now. Unbearable

Poppet1974 · 28/07/2014 23:54

Oh please no more, I just can't see any more bodies of dead children in Gaza. I heard that they Obama administration have had a 'fall out' of sorts with the Israeli government,I hoped this would bring Israel to its senses but alas no.
Who can stop these barbaric animals?

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 23:59

They are pulverising Gaza tonight. What can we do?

Poppet1974 · 29/07/2014 00:13

Those poor people, how frightened they must be especially the children. I honestly cannot believe this is going on in this day and age and NOTHING is being done!
I'm sick to my stomach:-( so so sad tonight.
