AndHarry · 26/07/2014 16:54

New thread as part 2 is nearly full.

Part 1 is here.

Part 1 was started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Part 2 is here.

In part 2 we mainly discussed the legality and human consequences of Operation Protective Edge.

From the Vanity Fair article, a quote: "There is no war more just than this,” Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday. "Bravery and determination are needed to fight a terror group which seeks our destruction. We must be prepared for a prolonged campaign.”

somewheresafe · 28/07/2014 20:32

Andharry - I'm not sure who the reporter was but the information was tweeted by NBC Washington.

Just seen the israeli ambassador on C4. What an egocentric bully he comes across as. They all use the same lines which I can now see are so rehearsed. No compassion whatsoever, the ironic reference to a 'brutal regime' and tunnels.

Meanwhile Brazil joins a long list of countries to criticise israel and distance itself.

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 20:38

Just watched c4 on record...how can Israel have such a total prat as an ambassador!!

Answers on a postcard

babbas · 28/07/2014 20:43

Yes what an absolute thug. Shouting out his pre - rehearsed propaganda. Hamas Hamas Hamas. What a knob. Made my skin crawl sat there not even flinching at news of the death of more children.

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 20:47

babbas, he kept saying Hamas brutal regime......he must think he is rescuing the Palestinians by killing them!!

What a guy

Chipstick10 · 28/07/2014 20:51

They are an evil inhumane regime . I am beyond angry. And how can they not care about world opinion.

AndHarry · 28/07/2014 20:53

Thanks for the Vanity Fair article. I'm postponing judgement on who's to blame for that strike. I hope we'll know the truth sooner rather than later. Whoever did it, how terrible that children aren't safe in a playground, a refugee camp, a hospital :(

It really is doublethink. Dead children in park - no, not the IDF but Hamas.

To quote from 1984, "And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed – if all records told the same tale – then the lie passed into history and became truth."

And perhaps one for the Israeli public:

“If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.”

zinher have you tried Al Jazeera? On 24 hours and have been excellent at the Gaza coverage.

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 20:56

they at least openly say they dont give a shit about world opinion...I think they might be wise to look up hubris in the dictionary especially now that netanyahu has said we are going to bomb the feck out of gaza even more..i do think netanyahu is committing personL and political harikiri, time will soon tell

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 20:57

Sorry my post at 20 56 was in reply to chipstick, cross posted with others

wannabestressfree · 28/07/2014 21:01

He can have that unique perspective as he lives that existence. You can waffle on all you like about Israel and apologists but he lives that life. He lives bomb shelters, rockets and fear. He lives domes and constant presence of the military, of nail bombs and tunnels. How best to protect their people.

I am not saying loss of life is wrong but it is not a one sided war. I am shocked how ill informed and just plain wrong some people are on here. That they lack insight of the bigger picture........ I hope both sides can get round a table and thrash things out before there are more deaths. Where are the leadership of Hamas at the moment? No where near gaza I imagine....

Wannabestepfordwife · 28/07/2014 21:02

timbucktoo could you please differentiate between Jews and Israel

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 21:02

They KNOW deep down what they are doing is wrong thats why they are in denial and talking scripted shit on the tv, trying to convince others of x y z...theyre really trying to convince themselves and failing! i quite feel sorry for them in a way, their conscience which should be a guide will end up as their prison guard, they really need to elect a new leader, preferably NOT a warmongering bastard

wannabestressfree · 28/07/2014 21:05

He was elected for a reason. I don't think he is as unpopular as you think.

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 21:08

... I hope both sides can get round a table and thrash things out before there are more deaths.

Ah we agree on something then wannabe...BUT do you really see Israel giving way...they managed to say fk off for a few decades....oh yes, agree, definitely two sides to everything and theres no chance in hell the Israelis have suffered more, just saying!, or are not responsible for much of the grievances and conflicts

What we need is SANE people on that thrashing table...The bully thug brat Net is is not one of them

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 21:11

he was elected for a reason...Lol wannabe, ok, he better shove his ebo and agro to one side then and behave like a proper statesman and ruler.....having thousands of kids deaths and other innocent people in your cv is not cool

Shalom should mean shalom, good nite

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 21:13

What now? What can we do? Serious question. Another demo on Aug 1st but who do we email? Tweet? What more can we do to register our horror and disgust?

emma2277 · 28/07/2014 21:13

"ebo" read "ego" butterfingers on my ipad and no edit button

Off to check out WHY Israli military bombed a refugee shelter "shakes head"

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 21:14

wannabestressfree was it a Freudian slip when you said "I am not saying loss of life is wrong"?

Do you have any comments on the pictures posted up by the Israeli embassy in Ireland?

Wannabestepfordwife · 28/07/2014 21:14

A petition so the government see the full weight of how many people are anti-Netanyahu

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 21:15

So far all I've managed is my MP, the BBC, Sainsburies, Tesco etc so what more can be done? Are there twitter accounts for the companies supplying drone parts etc for use on Gaza's children? Who are the arms manufacturers? Which banks fund them? I remember that not a single person I knew banked at Barclays due to SA

AndHarry · 28/07/2014 21:19

timbucktoo do you mean Jewish or Israeli spokesperson?

OP posts:
Springheeled · 28/07/2014 21:25

Ok a bit of digging- a company called Thales UK has a contract to supply parts of drones...
