AndHarry · 26/07/2014 16:54

New thread as part 2 is nearly full.

Part 1 is here.

Part 1 was started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Part 2 is here.

In part 2 we mainly discussed the legality and human consequences of Operation Protective Edge.

So ten more children dead after israeli attack on a park where children were playing and attack on shifa hospital. For some reason I thought that the shifa hospital would be safe. I dnt know why as IDF has zero regard for human life. A lot of families are sheltering there.

Halfdrunkcoffee

I suppose a decision was taken to choose the best headline.

I can't make out the turkish word for jew in the picture, can you?

Chipstick10 · 28/07/2014 18:37

I am so sick of the regular press conferences by Israel and the absolute lies, bullshit and belligerence.

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 18:46

Children killed in a playground, now? In a refugee camp?
And no end in sight.

donnie · 28/07/2014 18:55

yes 9 children apparently. N doubt it's Hamas' fault though, because is always is you know. The nail bombs, the whitephos, the weapons are all used by the IDF but somehow it's still Hamas' fault.

I'm just quoting Mark Regev in advance btw. C4 news tonight ? I'll put money on it.

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 19:02

I just saw Netanyahu, announcing that the offensive will continue. A "lengthy campaign". So more deaths, more suffering. And apparently the majority of Israelis support him. Hearing that makes me despair. How can they not care?? Or is the propaganda so compelling?
He's an evil evil man.

timbucktoo · 28/07/2014 19:07

Has anyone seen the comments on "Jew news" on facebook?

I feel physically sick.

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 19:11

timbucktoo I just had a brief look. It's pretty bad. If that is the view of the average Israeli, and given how Palestinians in Gaza are likely to feel about Israel after being killed in their thousands, how is there even a glimmer of hope for any sort of peaceful resolution?

timbucktoo · 28/07/2014 19:12

Ten years ago, as Israel was planning its unilateral “disengagement” or “separation” from the Gaza Strip, the so-called international community and the then-thriving peace process industry indulged in fantasies that the small territory might become a prosperous “Singapore on the Mediterranean.”

Israeli strategists had no such illusions. Although they did withdraw their 7,000 settlers from Gaza in 2005, they never intended to set Gaza free.
Israeli forces were merely moved from the interior to the perimeter, replacing direct occupation with what eventually became a hermetic siege.

A decade later, we can say with certainty that Israel is not a “normal” society. It is clear that in order to “kill and kill and kill,” Israeli society has had to dehumanize Palestinians to an unprecedented extent.

This is perhaps what explains the pervasive cry of “death to the Arabs,” the relentless incitement by politicians and public figures, and the intolerance for any dissent from the crushing consensus in favor of the Gaza slaughter. There is a level of dehumanization that allows lawmaker Ayelet Shaked, a rising star, to call for the slaughter of mothers in Gaza because they give birth to “little snakes” and face no negative repercussions.

zinher · 28/07/2014 19:16

I have lost all hope. The little children and how can the Palestinians ever move on from this. People losing all members of their families, their homes, such an utter tragedy.

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 19:16

Oh god I jaunt watched channel 4 news and the Israeli ambassador made me want to scream and scream, the fucking sociopath.

zinher · 28/07/2014 19:17

That is such a sick statement by the israeli politician.

Springheeled · 28/07/2014 19:19

Just, not jaunt

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 19:23

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahiya_doctrine

Just saw an analyst speculating that Israel is deliberately using the Dahiya strategy, which they used against Lebanon in 2006. It's essentially deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

halfdrunkcoffee · 28/07/2014 19:28

PJ - I can just about see the word Yahudi in the Turkish text.

Chipstick10 · 28/07/2014 19:39

I also just watched channel 4 news and ditto. My anger listening to the Israeli ambassador knew no bounds. How can he sleep at night? . Every Palestinian that has died it seems, has died by their own rockets misfiring .

somewheresafe · 28/07/2014 19:41

I reported this earlier today but was hoping it was false. I'm so sad. These kids were trying to celebrate Eid in the middle of a war zone. In a playground ffs.

Then israel has the fucking gall to accuse Hamas of firing a stray rocket. Devious lying israel. Thankfully an NBC journalist was present and saw it was an israeli drone. As for the attack on Shifa hospital there are just no words.

I can't believe how angry I am.

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 19:46

They're also trying to censor reporting Gaza. Was so pleased to see that Al Jazeera had actually has an advert aimed at Israel saying "Don't shoot the messenger".
They know damn well that what they're doing is horrific, and that they'll be judged internationally. They just don't give a shit.

somewheresafe · 28/07/2014 19:49

They don't a shit. That the horror of it all. Nothing will stop them. Even the protests in Israel are fizzling out. I'm finding it hard not to judge Israelis who are not horrified by this genocide. Why aren't they marching on the streets? Challenging their evil government?

I've posted about marches in tel aviv about family living there who are horrified. Now I'm horrified that they are not doing anything.

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 19:51

Yes I get the feeling that dissent has been firmly silenced. I'm sure there are many people in Israel who don't agree with what is happening but it sounds like there is now a climate of intimidation about speaking out.

zinher · 28/07/2014 20:01

Channel4 needs a 24 hrs news channel

AndHarry · 28/07/2014 20:12

I heard about the deaths in the playground and the attack on the Al Shifa hospital earlier today. Israel are being very vehement in denying that it was them. Who was this NBC reporter?

OP posts:
thecatfromjapan · 28/07/2014 20:12

I am watching C4+1. This is so terrible.

Having read the document about the media approach, I'm finding the ambassador appalling. Utter cynicism.

How disgraceful that the international power structure is such that we - all of us - are being coerced into some kind of collusion.

I'm thinking more and more that boycotting is very necessary on an individual level, just so that we can find some form of saying "No. We want some kind of action against this."

wordsmithsforever · 28/07/2014 20:29

AndHarry: Here is some info about the NBC journalist - see www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2014/07/gaza-shifa-hospital-bombing

wordsmithsforever · 28/07/2014 20:30

I reckon soon the IDF is going to insist all journalists leave Gaza "for their own safety".
