I think this story will open up a lot of talk about illegal child trafficking in Europe.

filee777 · 19/10/2013 11:52

The Roma men recently tried in Paris had discussed how children were commodities used to beg and steal from rich tourists, the money was used for buying property and so on in Romania.

I think this will be a huge case.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10390183/Girl-smuggled-into-Britain-to-have-her-organs-harvested.html

Todays Telegraph report of child trafficking going on in the UK to fill the gap of organs needed for transplant patients here.

Its sickening but the reality is far worse than anything you could bare to imagine and its a worldwide problem not just EuropeSad

Lets hope this little girls case in Greece brings Human trafficking to the attention of everyone.

NotScared · 19/10/2013 13:14

I didn't think MM at all. Your OP cleary says 4 year old.

Poor wee mite. And all dcs who are snatched. Thank God she's alive though.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 19/10/2013 13:18

How horribly sad for the little girl. Losing the only family she has ever known (if they did indeed have her from a baby). Unlikely to be a happy ending Sad

KnittingAndCleaning · 19/10/2013 13:27

How bad is the organ harvesting article? I am a little fragile at the moment, and if it is too upsetting I could do with a warning.

cranberryorange · 19/10/2013 13:30

Apologies Knitting but i thought the link covered the content quite clearly so a warning wasnt needed.

Sorry

ZZZenagain · 19/10/2013 13:39

reports on a girl smuggled into Britain from Somalia to be "harvested" for organs and then goes on to discuss human traficking aka slave trade nowadays generally.

SPBisResisting · 19/10/2013 13:40

Notscared the title has been edited. It originally said "blonde girl found in greece"

KnittingAndCleaning · 19/10/2013 13:41

oh, I am sorry I was not clear, I can do with a warning of how bad the content is in the article. It was clear it was a link to an article about organ removal.

KnittingAndCleaning · 19/10/2013 13:42

Thanks ZZZ I will leave the article to read for another day.

ZZZenagain · 19/10/2013 13:43

Begins like this, factually and not going into any explicit detail :

"The unnamed girl was brought to the UK from Somalia with the intention of removing her organs and selling them on to those desperate for a transplant.

Child protection charities warned that the case was unlikely to be an isolated incident as traffickers were likely to have smuggled a group of children into the country.

The case emerged in a government report which showed that the number of human trafficking victims in the UK has risen by more than 50 per cent last year and reached record levels. "

No more detail gone into than that and then discusses generally modern human trafficking.

ZZZenagain · 19/10/2013 13:44

oh I am sorry, I didn't see your last post.

ILoveMakeUp · 19/10/2013 14:16

I think she looks like a Roma child.

cranberryorange · 19/10/2013 14:19

I think i read your question wrong Knitting!

Not a sensationalist article at all and the main bit was more about the stats showing the increased cases of reported child trafficking.

No graphic details contained.... Its the Telegraph!

Pixel · 19/10/2013 15:09

Also would have thought it would be easier to find a home for a baby than for an older dc.

Sadly it depends what they want them for. article here where a poor girl was sold at the age of 10 to be used as a slave. I doubt the couple in this case would have been interested in a baby.

ZZZenagain · 19/10/2013 15:12

yes, my mind is veering away from what use people might find for dc. I meant in the event it was about selling dc to childless couples, thus finding a home for them, I would have thought babies would be easier to pass on but of course you are right there are worse things out there.

filee777 · 19/10/2013 15:18

The telegraph article talked of 'fagin' style thievery schools and certainly the intelligence gathered from the two convicted in France shows they were using children to beg and rob in order to make money to send home/build houses.

Some children were maimed to make them better beggars.

Really awful.

Pixel · 19/10/2013 15:34

Oh I agree there must be some market for providing babies for childless people. In the McCann's case it might have been easier for someone to steal Maddie's brother or sister if they wanted to make a quick profit like that, but they obviously felt the risk of taking the older child was worth it for some reason.

Apparently there have been hundreds of calls from people hoping she is their daughter. Terrible that so many children can have been taken in a few short years.

I also think she looks roma.

ZZZenagain · 19/10/2013 15:45

my first thought was that she looks eastern European. I could see her being from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Belorussia but if so how did she get from there to Greece in order for her birth to be registered there? Crimean - Turkey - Greece? I also think that you are right, if that is the case, it may be that no one is actively trying to find her, as due to poverty or other drastic circumstances the parent(s) may not have wanted to keep their dc. She could also be the dc of illegal immigrants who felt they could not keep her. Really we don't know but if someone is missing her , hopefully she is reunited with them.

filee777 · 19/10/2013 16:18

She is NOT Roma, if you read the article the abductors gave two different versions of how they acquired her, one said she had been found in a blanket and the other said she was given to them by a poor couple.
