I've cracked, I think. I've no idea at all why it's funny, but it is Grin

Jahan · 29/04/2006 22:33

I don't think those evil men will ever feel guilt or remorse. They honestly believe she deserved it.
Although people in Reading are horrified by what happened, I have heard the 'well, if you play with fire....' phase coined a few times.

I'm not for the death penalty, but I do think prisons should be for punishment.
Those guys deserve to be locked up for life. A bit of daily flogging wouldn't go amiss either.

Greensleeves · 29/04/2006 22:33

I mean, why "beef"? Why not "pork" or "lamb", or even "mutton"?

JoolsToo · 29/04/2006 22:33

am absolutely rofling - I've lost it! Grin

I just keep saying 'beef' to myself!

joash · 29/04/2006 22:34

Personally - I think that they should be handed over to the girls families to be dealt with as they see fit!!!!!!!!

edam · 29/04/2006 22:34

Ian Brady - because he is deemed mad and therefore not competent to make the decision to refuse food. If a competent person decides to starve themselves, doctors are not allowed to intervene.

UCM · 29/04/2006 22:34

Sorry, my last post should have read 'the mother of a 19 year old who killed someone'

OP posts:
UCM · 29/04/2006 22:35

Have calmed down, 'WFT is beef?'

edam · 29/04/2006 22:35

At least one of the parents of the murdering bastards has disowned their son.

SaintGeorge · 29/04/2006 22:36

So does that mean you have taken a deep breathe and calmed down UCM? The fact that the sentence would be ok if it was your son who was the guilty party I mean.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 29/04/2006 22:37

Edam - they have only just decided that hes mad, just because he wants to starve himself?!
Doesnt the fact that he has killed many children raise any suspiscions about his sanity??

UCM · 29/04/2006 22:37

If my son had been the one who tortured that girl to here death and was sentenced to hanging, I am afraid I would agree. But I wouldn't disown him. After all I would be his mum.

spacedonkey · 29/04/2006 22:37

he's been in broadmoor for years - it's not a recent decision

Greensleeves · 29/04/2006 22:38

I get so fed up with all this "hand them over to the victim's family" "daily flogging" "they should be whipped through the streets and then have their bollocks cut off and then be hung".

We've DONE all that in this country. Societies progress, from feral tribalism, through more organised communities with brutal corporal and capital punishment, to more humane measures and standards of social control. It really wouldn't work to try and force society back down the road to savagery. Violence begets violence. Nothing else.

Some people really don't have much more vision than an earthworm, do they? It's sad. And irritating.

Caligula · 29/04/2006 22:38

It must be almost as awful to be the mother of one of those six, than to be the mother of the poor girl they killed

cod · 29/04/2006 22:40

oh eys

or father natch

Caligula · 29/04/2006 22:40

We have done all this GS, it's true.

But it has to be said, the murder rate has risen enormously since the fifties. And that's per capita, not just because there are more people.

Although that could be due to crimes being logged as murders, of course, rather than misadventure, self-defence, accidents etc.

UCM · 29/04/2006 22:41

Right so the family of Mary Anne should be comforted by this?

OP posts:
Socci · 29/04/2006 22:41

But nobody is going to be hanged in this country again. I can't express my pov any better than Caligula so eloquently put it further on down the thread.

If you want to live in a country where the state punishments are like something out of the dark ages go and live in Saudi Arabia or some such place. I'm genuinely disturbed by this thread.

Caligula · 29/04/2006 22:41

By what?

joash · 29/04/2006 22:43

some of us earth worms have also been through similar things - which probably accounts for our 'lack of vision'! Angry

Socci · 29/04/2006 22:43

I think that UCM's style of thinking appeals to our most base instincts that people were talking about on the pornification thread a couple of weeks ago.

UCM · 29/04/2006 22:44

Just imagine one your daughters, bought up lovingly but went a bit wild at 16 ( Iknow I did), then to have that done to your daughter!!!

I am not saying that the death penalty is the answer. I agree with most posts n this. But what is the point in paying for these people to live?

Can someone enlighten me please?
