That's good - I could hear the helicopters buzzing around .

wannaBe · 10/09/2012 12:56

the problem with sky is that although they are often the first for "breaking" news, their reports are often unsubstantiated and thus often inaccurate. Anyone remember the 7/7 bombings - sky were reporting all sorts of inaccurate details e.g. that there were three more boms on buses/that people had been gunned down by police in Canary warf - to name just two examples. Remember the little boy who was kidnapped in India? Sky were reporting that he'd been found and it then turned out to be untrue. And all the mmc reporting... need I say more.

So while the news may be well reported when it's accurate, the actual reporting certainly is not. It's nothing short of tabloid tv.

StealthPolarBear · 10/09/2012 12:59

So are the reports about evacutating the area correct?

strandednomore · 10/09/2012 13:05

This probably isn't the place for this debate but is it wrong to report unsubstantiated facts in this day of twitter if you preface it with "we are hearing that..." or "it's being reported that..."...not saying it is or isn't, just pondering really, as if you're reading it on twitter, but not seeing anything about it on the news, you might feel that the news is too slow and turn it off. The BBC have a policy of only reporting confirmed details, but they are therefore not necessarily the first ones we turn too during a running news story (to be honest, these days it's twitter I use in that case rather than any news channel).

TunaPastaBake · 10/09/2012 13:06

Neighbouring properties were evacuated - so not a large area really .

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 13:18

stranded, that's exactly my view and why I won't listen to Twitter or Sky.

Hokey said that discussing the case is distasteful. It isn't but I believe that reporting unconfirmed 'facts' and unsubstantiated information is more distasteful and does more harm to the family than a few people on Mumsnet talking about it.

Have you seen that the RAF cyclist that first arrived at the alps shooting scene gave an interview on BBC? Why is he willing to show his face so publicly? Something really strange in his demeanour...

I don't usually think of myself being a totally paranoid person, but I am starting to think that some of the conspiracy crazy posts are starting to be more convinving

laptopwieldingharpy · 13/09/2012 15:41

Just saw it.
Ver odd.
Sounds like he's re - hashing a script and too detached.
Why has it been so relevant from the get go that he's an ex-RAF btw. Who voluntered that info? How relevant is it? Why dont we know the proffession of the dead french cyclist?

BlackberryIce · 13/09/2012 15:41

'Something really strange in his demeanor'

It's the Jo yeates landlord situation all over again!! He didn't 'look' right either! Hmm

Lua · 13/09/2012 15:51

Not sure what you are suggesting blackberry ice.

I am just really surprised that someone that is a valubale witness is putting his face, name and city that he lives avaialble to the world. Either he knows he is not in danger of retaliation or he is not hinking very straight.

Not really sure what is the value to anyone for him to give a videoed interview.

TunaPastaBake · 13/09/2012 15:54

details of the French Cyclist

He has just been forgotten about especially in British media .

I remember when it first happened the press reported he was on leave because his partners had just had a baby.

hackmum · 13/09/2012 17:45

"It's the Jo yeates landlord situation all over again!! He didn't 'look' right either!"

Quite. Robert Murat's behaviour was a bit strange too, apparently. Thank god we live in a country where you can't throw people in jail because somebody doesn't fit the appropriate Mumsnet-designated template for how you should behave when you've just come across the bodies of four murdered people.

BlackberryIce · 13/09/2012 17:47

hackmum quite!!

Hulababy · 13/09/2012 18:00

It sounds, from that report, though that the family of the French cyclist do not want him in the media. They have released no photograph and they are not talking to the press according to that report. Maybe this is why we have heard nothing, or little about him.

VivaLeBeaver · 13/09/2012 18:17

I don't think the RAF man is at risk now. Any risk would surely only be before he'd given a statement, now he's given a statement I can't see he's in danger. Plus he didn't actually see anything, didn't see the gunman, didn't hear any shots - so he's not exactly a star witness.

mcgregor · 14/09/2012 03:07

I read on another forum the other man shot, the cyclist was also a scientist so its got nothing to do with his family, the great tragedy is that he had 3 children and a new baby. Its more than a coincidence that 2 men were scientists

Bossybritches22 · 16/09/2012 16:19

It's something to do with the 2 jobs I reckon, both highfliers, both in similar sciency jobs?

We'll probably never know.....the little girl seems to have disappeared off the radar, wonder which rely's she went to? And who is staying with the poor older sister? Shame they couldn't keep them together really but they may be safer apart till they know what's going on.

kellykettle · 17/09/2012 09:28

Have the girls been separated? Is the older child out of hospital now?

blisterpack · 17/09/2012 11:33

They were separated when the 4 year old came back to the UK with her aunt and uncle, but the older girl has since followed as well.
