Not only have the children lost their parents, but I guess the authorities won't allow them to join extended family until they ascertain if it really is a family dispute. Poor children, may the perpetrator rot in hell!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 07/09/2012 15:08

"Doesn't look right the angle it's at does it?"

It looked to me that it had reversed off the edge of the hard-standing area and the back wheels had spun. They're now saying there was a dent in the rear where it hit a bank of earth. Perhaps the older DD was shot at and Mr al-Hilli thought he could get the rest of the family away?

EdithWeston · 07/09/2012 15:11

There seems to be lots of 'news' swilling around: ambiguous, incomplete and contradictory. I suppose it's because people are desperate to make sense of it?

I think there is to be another French press conference later this afternoon.

ReallyTired · 07/09/2012 15:13

I think its essential that the children go into hiding until the police have found out what has happened and the killer is caught. I just hope the children are surrounded by English speaking people. It must be terrifying to lose your family in a foreign land.

No one wants to traumatise the young children, however four people have lost their lives. We shouldn't forgot the family of the french cyclist who have lost their daddy. The last thing anyone wants is for this killer to strike again.

I agree it is so tragic.

Sorry I didn't mean for the smiley I meant a sad face - that's in bad taste - hangs head in shame Blush....

blisterpack · 07/09/2012 17:00

Thanks Tuna.

The children are supposedly being guarded by armed police and being cared for by British consular staff.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 07/09/2012 17:31

AIBU to be annoyed that the media keep referring to Mr al-Hilli, his wife and an elderly woman as if they are of lesser importance. I am aware that perhaps the women could not be officially named at first but it is still happening.

Hopeforever · 07/09/2012 17:33

They are awaiting DNA I thought as they couldn't identify the ladies from their faces :(

pofacedalways · 07/09/2012 18:34

agree IAm. interesting subconscious assertion, isn't it.

racingheart · 07/09/2012 20:28

DH told me the net is now full of theories about the cyclist who found them, RAF trained, and the cyclist who died, who worked for a nuclear company.

BlackberryIce · 07/09/2012 20:31

Omg it gets worse!

blisterpack · 07/09/2012 20:35

Yes! I wish I didn't make the mistake of reading comments online. Some of it even makes sense...

Poor man though. In addition to the trauma of the discovery if he was thought to be involved.

kellykettle · 07/09/2012 20:58

I haven't seen anything else online, I wouldn't know where to look, I only follow this on BBC & MN but I can't believe they have spoken about the family feud theory in the press.

Where is the brother? Had he been informed that his brother had been killed and that he was a suspect or did he hear it through the news.

Is it because it's happened in France that the press are getting away with saying so much?

blisterpack · 07/09/2012 21:00

The brother contacted the police when he saw it on the news. When he heard the allegations about the dispute in the media he contacted them again and denied that there was a rift.

kellykettle · 07/09/2012 21:09

Bloody hell, the whole situation is just horrible.

I can't see how the cyclist could be involved, where would he hide the guns, what motive would he have and why would he help the older girl?

itsjustmeanon · 07/09/2012 21:23

I think it's horrid to accuse the brother in media. Why can't they leave the police do their job.

Briefly went on Daily Fail (I know I shouldn't) website and had to close the tab immediately, as I saw on the headline a comparison between the two houses the brothers lived in, with photos. I think they were trying to say that the murdered brother lived in the posher house. So intrusive, and nasty.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 07/09/2012 22:29

Re the car lock thing.... I don't know about BMWs but my German-made car activates the central locking a few seconds after you start the engine.

pofacedalways · 08/09/2012 09:02

What if the little girl in the car had been injured? An 8 hour delay would have killed her. Then the police would have been responsible for letting her die because they did not check the car. Really appalled at the fact they did not discover her for 8 hours.

edam · 08/09/2012 09:33

Radio news this morning says relatives are on their way to France to look after the two girls, which is good news.

Marne · 08/09/2012 09:39

So pleased that family are going out, those poor girls must be so scared Sad.

DreamsTurnToDust · 08/09/2012 09:49

I saw those photos itsjustme, god, the Daily Mail is so hateful, they seem determined to accuse the brother.

ReallyTired · 08/09/2012 11:31

The little girl could have died in the heat like a dog trapped in a car if the bullet holes had not been enough to allow air into the car. Do we know for certain that the adults died instantly.

I feel the that the French see preserving forensic evidence as being more important than preserving life.
