They say there will be a French police news conference at 1300, so there may be further information soon.

BlackberryIce · 06/09/2012 11:27

Still not identified the family? surely the campsite have booking records?

Oakmaiden · 06/09/2012 11:30

squoosh - I agree.

I was only saying what I thought the police meant by "family drama".

There are so many reasons why it is an unlikely scenario, though.

At the same time - a family drama would mean it was over and done with now, whereas a crazed killer may do it again.

marquesas · 06/09/2012 11:31

I guess they must know who the family are but just aren't releasing the names until they contact relatives which is understandable.

They have the reg of the car and the campsite details so there can't really be any reason not to know who they are.

Tanith · 06/09/2012 11:39

I was horrified to read about this, too. I can't stop thinking about how terrified that poor little child must have been to keep still all that time Sad

They said the older child is improved, so hope she makes it.

EdithWeston · 06/09/2012 11:40

The name of the family is "emerging" (I've just heard it on a news channel) as is that of the cyclist. I expect the proper announcement will come at the news conference.

Poor little lamb. It just doesn't bear thinking about :(

NCForNow · 06/09/2012 11:48

Another family member could have done it...they wouldn;t have to be all in the car together Sqoosh especially if there had been a fall out.

I am also praying for the little 8 year old to pull through...she and her sister will need each other. Sad I hope they have some family to care for them.

NCForNow · 06/09/2012 11:49

Asmywhimsy but the 8 year old is "critical" Sad I am praying for her as I expect a lot of others are...or if not praying then sending positive vibes.

squoosh · 06/09/2012 11:51

I suppose it could have been a family member but who brings an automatic pistol on holiday with them? Unless they preplanned it I suppose. Plus a family member might have been more thorough in ensuring everyone died?

Ugh, it's just so bloody awful. I hope those girls have some family members to swoop in to give them the love and support they need.

strandednomore · 06/09/2012 11:54

Oh it's awful those poor little girls.
My first thought was witness protection/retribution. Or organised crime of some kind. But then I read a grandmother was with them so hopefully notthe latter.
Whatever it is, it's just truely sad.

Thumbwitch · 06/09/2012 12:07

I think it's possible that it was a car-jacking gone wrong - hold them up, gun goes off possibly by accident, kills the driver - car-jacker panics, shoots all the visible witnesses, cyclist appears on the scene, car-jacker has to shoot him too then flees the scene.

It's not unbelievable.

It woudl be very hard to believe that it was a family member if they were all on holiday; but if they lived in the area, then more possible.

I just hope the older sister pulls through as well so that they at least have each other.

AGoldenOrange · 06/09/2012 12:09

Just seen the news, how heartbreaking Sad

ReallyTired · 06/09/2012 12:19

Poor family, poor children. I can't understand why anyone would shoot someone in cold blood, yet alone a child.

It must be terrifying for those poor little girls to have their family murdered in front of them in a foreign country.

The father's name has been announced now. The whole story is so sad.

Thumbwitch · 06/09/2012 12:44

Just been reading more - so the forensics experts came in from Paris, hence the delay on dealing with the scene. The 4yo was under her mother's legs, presumably in the footwell and may have been hidden from sight by clothing.

The rest of it still beggars belief - the speculation in the comments of the reports I read gets a little extremist and bizarre - of course now the victim's name has been released, terrorism is suspected by random speculators - no reason for this at all! Although it could point to a racist motive.

EdithWeston · 06/09/2012 12:52

The name has been emerging, but the press conference has yet to begin.

TunaPastaBake · 06/09/2012 13:11

Oh dear - the family are from near us Sad

Thumbwitch · 06/09/2012 13:56

Oh, just read that the 7yo was beaten around the head as well - has skull fractures :( Poor child, what could possibly prompt someone to do that? Angry

vivimum · 06/09/2012 14:05

it really makes you wonder if we are safe anywhere!
when you take your children to such a beautiful place you presume as they do that they are in the safest of hands!! that poor little children!and everyone affected.. God only knows how they will get through the trauma, the only positive is at 4 the little one has time on her side as she's so very young with the right care it will hopefully fade from her memory.totally shocking and when these people are found I don't think the harshest of sentencing could possibly provide justice.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/09/2012 14:06

I wonder if it was the other way on. The cyclist was the first victim and then the car came round the corner so they were killed to silence them?

I guess the police will figure it out.

Poor, poor kids.

hifi · 06/09/2012 14:09

i hope it wasnt a racially motivated murder.

FreddieMercuryforQueen · 06/09/2012 14:11

Such a sad story. The thought of that wee baby girl cowering between her dead mothers legs makes me want to weep.
