I don't think this has any hallmarks of a carjacking. It has all the hallmarks of a planned execution.

hellymelly · 09/09/2012 13:19

I agree with dogscock that the position of the car looks as though the driver speedily reversed to try and drive in the other direction- so must have seen something to panic him . I can't get this out of my head, that poor little girl, agree that if she'd been injured she might have died in the car, or died anyway from the heat, shocking it took so long to see her.

Bossybritches22 · 09/09/2012 13:44

I'm now wondering if the theory upthread is right - that the cyclist was the
target & the car came upon the scene & the killer had to clear the witnesses?

Hence the car trying to get away

Maybe we'll never know?

wannaBe · 09/09/2012 14:10

I don't believe that tbh. to take out an entire family - execution style - in order to have no witnesses to the killing of one person seems excessive. Whoever shot that family intended to shoot the family.

I suspect tbh it's more likely that whoever ordered them killed thought there would be four people in the car (the two adults and the two children) and didn't reckon on the older woman being there. So the killer was aiming for four people hence how the little girl was overlooked.

Bossybritches22 · 09/09/2012 14:20

ah good point wannabe

Thumbwitch · 09/09/2012 16:03

I know this is a bit left-field, but I relatively recently found out that Mariska Hargitay, the actress who plays Liv Benson in L&O SVU, is Jayne Mansfield's DD and was in the car when she was killed in fairly horrific circumstances. Mariska was 3 1/2 at the time and somewhere I read that she had no lasting memories of the accident - one can only hope that the little girl in this case manages to lose all memories of this traumatic incident as well.

Caja- I doubt a 4 year old used those actual words. That's how the newspapers have paraphrased it- there have been no direct quotes from her. I am not disputing how terrifying it must have been btw

Houses around the family home in surrey being evacuated?!
what is going on?

I guess that throws the hypothesis os random robbery out.

wannaBe · 10/09/2012 10:06

I thin the random robbery theory was thrown out days ago. Random robbers don't kill people in the way these people were killed...

Lua · 10/09/2012 10:09

yes. But why would the houses be evacuated? this is getting really weird!

TunaPastaBake · 10/09/2012 10:10

Houses around the family home in surrey being evacuated?!

Where did you get that from ? Confused

I know that they have closed the road and put up screens but that is just to keep nosey press and locals out .

wannaBe · 10/09/2012 10:11

it's been reported on twitter by channel 4 news. Roads closed and neighbours asked to leave the area.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 10/09/2012 10:12

My dh knows the man in question, and has done for years.

He said he was a kind, lovely man and people who know him well (his best friend) is devastated and has know idea what it is all about.

EdithWeston · 10/09/2012 10:12

Assuming they are... BBC says only "cordon extended" including road closed (which could just be to reduce rubbernecking). The rest is "according to sources". Perhaps there will be an official update some time today?

TunaPastaBake · 10/09/2012 10:12

oh er ? Got to go up that way later too - perhaps wont be now Shock

gazzalw · 10/09/2012 10:12

Wonder whether there's a bomb or some type of chemical weapons....????

TunaPastaBake · 10/09/2012 10:14

Twitter saying Bomb Disposal have pulled up at scene Shock

Goldpippin · 10/09/2012 10:18

Sky news reporting that a bomb disposal unit is on the scene.

Lua · 10/09/2012 10:18

it says on the guardian online....
but no details.

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 10:18

Oh right, he's obviously a terrorist then is he? Because he's from Iraq?

Let's stick to the facts. The cordon has been extended to stop people from rubber-necking and they've had to block out windows too. The house is still being searched but a reporter on the scene says that the police have not found anything significant.

I think it's best to assume that the BBC have unbiased and accurate reporting at this stage whereas Sky et al just like to dabble in sensationalism.

TunaPastaBake · 10/09/2012 10:19

Nobody has said he is a terrorist ! - check out the twitter and news reports re Bomb Disposal - you are the only one that is puttin 2 + 2 and making 5 !

gazzalw · 10/09/2012 10:20

not saying he is a terrorist - the bomb could have been planted..... and it might be in line with his work anyway....Or the forensics team just been cautious.....

Lua · 10/09/2012 10:21

hokey - sorry to hear that your husband knew him personally. It does sound like he was a nice man, from all the news.

Which makes this whole thing so much bizarre, because it does seem that he has become a target of some very powerful group. I do hope there is some kind of explanation at some point, and also that the girls protection are stepped up!

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 10:23

The BBC are playing it down, unlike Twitter.

I hate Skys reporting at the best of times and sorry, I just blew a gasket when someone mentioned them. They don't deal in news, they deal in sensationalism. They are the Daily Sun of the newsworld.

Lua · 10/09/2012 10:25

from bbc:

Surrey Police have evacuated neighbours and closed the road around the home of Saad al-Hilli, amid concerns over items found at the house in Claygate
