Rubard - it's a local reporter from a local paper that is tweeting from the scene - others are then picking it up - have a look.

That's the way news works these days - for better or worse.

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 10:28

Thanks Tuna but it's just online rubbernecking. I feel every sympathy for that family and like others, I am curious as to what happened and I hope to God they find the killers, but I'm not about to follow every single tweet. I feel that's going too far.

I can wait for the 10 0'Clock news.

TunaPastaBake · 10/09/2012 10:34

I have an interest as it is about a mile away from me and have family living over that way .

wannaBe · 10/09/2012 10:46

nobody has said he was a terrorist.

But for whatever reason someone felt the need to murder him and his entire family in the style of an execution. Whatever he was involved in, it was serious, and probably beyond the realms of anything most of us will ever comprehend.

Even if he was involved in a secret service of some kind and was one of the good guys, it's not impossible that explosives could be in the picture somewhere. We just don't know, and 24 hour news coverage is going to give more detail than we ordinarily would ever have access to.

EdithWeston · 10/09/2012 10:54

Yes, BBC has updated since my last post - here's the latest. I hope it all proves to be unneeded precautionary measures (like the M6 Toll Road bus).

marquesas · 10/09/2012 10:58

I haven't heard the latest reports but even if there are some kind of explosives at the house it doesn't mean that Mr Al-Hilli put them there.

There is obviously a lot more to this case that we know about yet, if developments are being reported either by the BBC or bystanders on Twitter it's natural for those loving nearby to be concerned and for others to be interested.

I don't think anyone posting here is making any accusations (skim read the latest posts so sorry if I've missed them)

TunaPastaBake · 10/09/2012 10:58

It's all bizarre ! Especially ' naice' village like Claygate - (it is really nice)

Lua · 10/09/2012 11:28

It is probably nothing, but it is strange to find anything that looks like an explosive device in a family home.

Apparently there was some concerns about people coming into the house before they left. I remember a neighbour mentioning that he was asked to keep an eye out.

It could have been place there by someone to target the family, or to make him look like something else, or even as a defense if they thought someone was coming there to get something? I obviously do not know, but it is so bizarre!

I jusk keeep worying about the surviving girls, whoever was behind this attack has some serious resources. I am obviously very naive because I cannot understand what reason does one have to target a whole family including very young children.

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 11:42

Lua - the neighbour was asked to keep an eye on the house by the father. Because that's what you do when you are going on holiday.
Reports of strangers coming into the house is pure speculation that I've not seen reported on any news channel anywhere.

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 11:43

And if they wanted the children dead, to be quite frank, they would have killed the 7 yo. They left her alive.

gazzalw · 10/09/2012 11:57

But she was heavily bludgeoned, presumably in the hope that she would sustain bad enough head injuries to give her brain damage or at least have an adverse impact on her memory?

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 10/09/2012 12:01

All the speculation is becoming a bit tasteless, you are talking about real people who have friends and family who are devastated.

I'm going to hide this thread, before anyone tells me to do exactly that.

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 12:02

I doubt that any professional killer would have taken the risk tbh. They could have just shot her in the head as they did the others. Why take the risk of leaving her alive on the presumption that her memory would be fucked?

They probably just wanted to silence her screams, as horrible as that sounds.

We'll just have to wait until the investigation is over and even then we may not know everything. In fact it's certain that we won't as they will keep certain details from the public even after the investigation is over.

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 12:04

It's being discussed in the media, on the street, everywhere Hokey. It's news, you can't silence news.

I don't mind discussing it but I refuse to listen to anything Sky has to say or follow any Twitter reports.

mummytime · 10/09/2012 12:15

BTW as a trained chemist (and with a bit of an Internet search) I am sure I could create an explosive from everyday items around the house. However given the father's job, he could quite easily have bits lying around the house that could look like explosive timers (actually my sons DT project could look like that if we were being investigated).

ReallyTired · 10/09/2012 12:17

"doubt that any professional killer would have taken the risk tbh. They could have just shot her in the head as they did the others. Why take the risk of leaving her alive on the presumption that her memory would be fucked?"

Prehaps the killer had run out of bullets. I doult he had any qualms about murdering a child.

It is understandable that both the British and French media want to know what happened.

chipstick10 · 10/09/2012 12:20

I listen to everything sky has to say, they always have good rolling news.

Lua · 10/09/2012 12:24

Now what does this mean?

from bbc:
Swedish authorities have confirmed that a passport discovered on the scene corresponds to a Swedish person living in Sweden, but as yet no absolute connection has been made between the older woman in the car and either the passport or between her and the rest of the victims, the local prosecutor said

Again, sorry for sounding naive, but how hard can it be to identify this person properly with the body being immediatly recovered?

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 12:24

Yeah, of made up 'facts' usually.

THERhubarb · 10/09/2012 12:26

Lua, the latest BBC report says this: "Mr al-Hilli's wife, Iqbal, and her 74-year-old mother who held a Swedish passport, were killed during the attack in Chevaline, close to the tourist destination of Lake Annecy, on Wednesday."

strandednomore · 10/09/2012 12:27

Or perhaps the killers just suddenly realised they couldn't kill a child in cold blood - posibbly same with little one. Or maybe the poor cyclist stumbled on the scene as they were about to shoot the older girl, distracted them, and then they ran out of time.
I imagine they are taking all sorts of precautions at the house about anything they find - it doesn't mean anything until they give out some concrete information.

strandednomore · 10/09/2012 12:30

I think they confirmed the body was that of the grandmother from evidence in the house - but not sure whether they have confirmed that it was definitely her passport, eg it could have been a forged passport, she might have been an illegal immigrant, for example (I'm not saying she WAS - just a possibility as to why they haven't yet confirmed it's definitely her passport)

chipstick10 · 10/09/2012 12:32

I disagree TheRhubarb. Sky have some really good news correspondents. They are nearly always first with breaking news and Alex Crawford is an amazing foreign correspondent. We will have to agree to disagree.

Frontpaw · 10/09/2012 12:32

I suppose they need to be happy with the confirmations, not just going on 'its bound to be the same person'.

iluvkids · 10/09/2012 12:39

residents have now been allowed back into their homes
