Jobless refugee in £1.25m house?

Sorry cant link and is in the dreaded dm, but am astonished at this story and the tenants 'rights' to live in a nice home? With the government seemingly taking every extra bit if hard earned cash from those of us who are struggling day to day, how can councils paying rents in excess of £5000 per month be justified?

I wouldnt get too hecked up about it. For one, its probably not entirely true and secondly, it doesnt really matter.

Lougle · 14/08/2012 13:09

Anybody can link. It's followed by the website URL ended with . It's not hard!

Lougle · 14/08/2012 13:10

MNHQ have made it even easier by allowing you to simply copy and paste the URL from the address bar, and clicking 'convert links automatically'.

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 13:11

Are they the ones who trashed the house?

Alameda · 14/08/2012 13:12

Biscuit for OP to nibble while he looks for the square brackets

would rather never be a refugee than live in someone else's £1.5m house and be reviled in the press for the privilege

butisthismyname · 14/08/2012 13:15

Why does everyone assume these are DM 'lies' all the time?? Just interested.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/08/2012 13:20

Because it does?

Portofino · 14/08/2012 13:28

Remember the Amanda Know appeal where they posted the "Guilty" story - minutes after the verdict - together with comments and a description of the scene. As she was actually acquitted it HAD to have all been made up. I refuse to click on the DM links now.

Portofino · 14/08/2012 13:29

Amanda Knox....

puds11 · 14/08/2012 13:31

The daily mail is a hate-making, fear mongering piece of shit that shouldn't be allowed the title newspaper.

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 13:31

Re the DM... I read a very graphic piece late last night in the DM. Details of a very recent child's murder. V v graphic. I felt sick and couldn't quite believe what I was reading, it was about 2 am. Same article is there this morning missing that paragraph. Shy did that happen? Was it lies? Or did common sense prevail.

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 13:31

*why

CaseyShraeger · 14/08/2012 13:39

Every other time the DM has run this kind of story it's turned out to be total bollocks. I see no particular reason to believe that this one will prove to be any different.

CaseyShraeger · 14/08/2012 13:41

butisthismyname, check out the DM's record on fullfact.org; it's not impressive (or not in a good way)

FallenCaryatid · 14/08/2012 13:42

'Anybody can link. It's followed by the website URL ended with . It's not hard!'

But she's a DM reader Lougle, be kind.

FYP · 14/08/2012 13:50

The cap on housing benefit/local housing allowance is £500, not £5000 so quite clearly is bollocks.

CaseyShraeger · 14/08/2012 13:52

They're paying that to no more than 60 families in the entire country, even according to the DM. And why? Assuming it's true, because councils sold off much of their old housing stock so don't actually have the properties to house the families who need housing (particularly larger families) and need to turn to the private sector where, in some areas of the country, rents can be astronomical.

CaseyShraeger · 14/08/2012 13:54

(but note "even according to the DM" and "assuming it's true")

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 14:01

Have I just done a link?? That was an experiment. Never attempted on before Grin

Apologise it's DM, might not be the link op was talking about even.

claig · 14/08/2012 14:33

Apology accepted. If you feel the urge to link to more DM articles in the future, please feel free.

Portofino · 14/08/2012 14:35

Have you got a klaxon round yours, claig? Grin

Alameda · 14/08/2012 14:38

don't see what exactly is so awful about behaviour of the family concerned, they could be any family anywhere? have heard far worse about home grown disaffected youth

anyway the path looks poorly maintained rather than vandalised and the house the Somalians live in looks very smart from the outside?

DO NOT UNDERSTAND the point of any of it really, plus it is too nice outside to sit here thinking about these things

claig · 14/08/2012 14:39

'Have you got a klaxon round yours, claig?'

Naturally, and it was sourced from a Daily Mail special offer. Wink

janji · 14/08/2012 14:56

What lovely mnetters on this thread? Does it make you feel better by putting down op's lack of technical skills rather than having a reasonable debate about a news story? As for the (boring) ongoing dm put downs on the site, it was also a story reported in a number of other newspapers in previous months. Never really believed mnetters could be so rude; anonymity obviously goes to some posters heads and egos.
