Jobless refugee in £1.25m house?

Sorry cant link and is in the dreaded dm, but am astonished at this story and the tenants 'rights' to live in a nice home? With the government seemingly taking every extra bit if hard earned cash from those of us who are struggling day to day, how can councils paying rents in excess of £5000 per month be justified?

OP posts:

don't blame that young guy for sticking his fingers up at DM, who wouldn't?
as for the market value of the house, it's immaterial.

LineRunner · 14/08/2012 18:47

Most newspapers make up quotes, anyway.

I had a whole interview made up about me. That was an eye-opener.

Orwellian · 14/08/2012 19:28

They are not asylum seekers but refugees. If they were not allowed to work they would not be allowed to claim benefits either, as the left wing is always saying and they obviously are claiming benefits.

Hopefully if they have to be rehoused it will be somewhere cheap and basic outside London. No reason why taxpayer cash has to pay for ungrateful people who have been given sanctuary and who don't work to live in one of the most expensive cities on earth that most working people can't afford Angry!

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 19:29

What is your idea of 'cheap and basic'?

carernotasaint · 14/08/2012 20:49

105 posts on this thread and only 51 on the thread about Dispatches and Panorama revealing the truth about the Work Capability Assesment and the harm and death its causing to ill and disabeld people.
Says it all about our society really!

zippey · 14/08/2012 21:43

Why does the value of the house matter if they are tenants? It doesnt affect them.

Also where is the evidence of the trashing of the house?

Typical Daily Mail nonsense.

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 21:59

What do you mean carer?

lissielou · 14/08/2012 22:18

I didnt watch dispatches/panorama.

sorry.

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 22:32

What's it got to do with this?

lissielou · 14/08/2012 22:33

blackberry, nothing. its just a PA guilt-trip.

butisthismyname · 15/08/2012 10:58

Dispatches was fascinating for sure. I particularly enjoyed seeing the jobcentreplus director woman really struggling Grin she was really quite unpleasant.

2old2beamum · 15/08/2012 12:26

Well said carernotasaint people throw their arms in disgust about refugees but don't care a toss about ATOS and their evil practice and what they are doing to the vulnerable

lissielou · 15/08/2012 12:58

Oh fgs, that's a helluva assumption to make!

EdgarOlymPic · 15/08/2012 15:44

"

which is hardly suprising, because most of us are discussing the stuff in the OP Confused

if you want to talk about that, start a thread for it!

2old2beamum · 15/08/2012 16:05

There was as carer stated it was just a comment which I supported.

lissielou · 15/08/2012 16:10

but why come on and make that statement if not to just be snidey? why not go onto all the other threads? and say the same thing? and why make the assumption that because you are discussing one thing, you cant care about the other? its passive-aggressive nonsense.
