Jobless refugee in £1.25m house?

Sorry cant link and is in the dreaded dm, but am astonished at this story and the tenants 'rights' to live in a nice home? With the government seemingly taking every extra bit if hard earned cash from those of us who are struggling day to day, how can councils paying rents in excess of £5000 per month be justified?

stirring up ill-feeling against refugees is not reasonable debate though is it? it's just hateful

lissielou · 14/08/2012 15:05

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

troof

lissielou · 14/08/2012 15:11

this is from a source as reliable as the DM

janji · 14/08/2012 15:24

Lissielou; I rest my case! Very intelligent comment and v clever for linking!!?
My thread was never intended to stir up any ill feeling, I was commenting more on the inequality of support from the government / councils for those in need in this country and for what initially appears to be an unfair use of public money when many people are having much needed benefits cut.

thank you. Ive been practising.

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 15:26

There us no need for anyone to trash their property though.

Alameda · 14/08/2012 15:42

but some people do

some families are troubled, is not the preserve of people from other countries/with brown skin or whatever

janji · 14/08/2012 16:11

I really don't think the issue here is the nationality / culture of the tenants ( that was included in the thread title as this was the tag line used in the original article ).
Hope you find your goat lissielou; I'm sure you'll be very successful.

OP posts:
Alameda · 14/08/2012 16:15

but when you said 'those in need in this country' don't you mean 'from this country', since the refugees in the article are in need in this country?

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 14/08/2012 16:15

I hate when they use the term "jobless refugee" - you're NOT ALLOWED TO WORK when you're applying for assylum! They're not being lazy FFS if they're not working, they're just following the rules!

bigkidsdidit · 14/08/2012 16:18
Shock

I think my ex boyfriend used to live in that house!

LineRunner · 14/08/2012 16:20

That house would fetch £130k where I live, in north-east. Just saying.

JuliaScurr · 14/08/2012 16:21

Here's a thing - get unemployed training and skilled jobs building council houses, stop right to buy, bring in rent controls on private sector - sorted.
Grant Schapps isn't keen because his mates make no profit from that plan.

bigkidsdidit · 14/08/2012 16:23

Linerunner I am shocked those houses cost that much

London prices are so mad, it's why we just left. Those houses are ok but nothing special Confused

janji · 14/08/2012 16:23

'those in need in this country' means just that (geographical) regardless of origin.

OP posts:
LineRunner · 14/08/2012 16:25

Crazy prices, bigkids.

Agree with JuliaScurr - too many people (possibly who are mates with policy setters) are cashing in on the obscene rental market.

goingtoofast · 14/08/2012 16:29

Far more shocked that a 3 bed terrace cost 1.25 mil.

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 14/08/2012 16:31

I thinke every area should have distributed scattered in social housing, if you only do social housing in cheap areas you create ghettos

Alameda · 14/08/2012 16:32

so where is the inequality OP? the family are in this country, they are in need of housing, they are in a fairly ordinary looking privately owned semi/terraced house because there is a dearth of social housing

LineRunner · 14/08/2012 16:32

I was expecting to see a gated mansion with a helicopter landing pad, not a picture of my own house transported to Fulham.

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 16:32

They have been here years..... How long are they not allowed to work for?

FunnysInLaJardin · 14/08/2012 16:34

OMG and they're not even white

BlackberryIce · 14/08/2012 16:35

Social housing is now integrated into every new build estate... By law. Developers have to make a percentage of their new builds available. That's how I got this house ( 5 bed 'mansion')

We won't be trashing it though!

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 14/08/2012 16:36

thats what I mean blackberry, it is RIGHT that expensive areas also have their share, the alternative is ghettos and also unfair on people living in cheaper areas

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 14/08/2012 16:37

also not fair on the people using social housing to not be in normal mixed communities
