It seems sanity has prevailed. Let's hope there are no more delays and the site is cleared ASAP

Where do you live Glasnost?

North Korea? Cuba? The tents obstructing St Pauls?

bemybebe · 20/10/2011 12:07

Glasnost, somehow I am not surprised that you are fighting for your "revolutions" whist commuting between Tuscany and the UK. Grin I guess internet connection in Cuba and North Korea, these workers' paradises are not stable enough...

takingbackmonday · 20/10/2011 12:13

Ooooh Tuscany. Maybe glasnost is Polly Toynbee?

takingbackmonday · 20/10/2011 12:15

Although he/she sounds more like Laurie Penny.

glasnost · 20/10/2011 12:17

Why don't MN have an emoticon signifying worry at the fact that fellow posters are PARENTS.

glasnost · 20/10/2011 12:20

Tuscany, my arse. I live in Italy but not tuscany. That's soooooooo 1990's.

My post re. swanning round tuscan farmhouse was humorous. Seeing as snidiness constitutes humour for you both am hardly surprised was misunderstood.

Ciao for now, haters.

Haggyoldclothbatspus · 20/10/2011 12:23

Getting back to the fact that The gypsys are being evicted and they cant live the way they want to, A good friend of mine wants to buy a property, and live on it in a static caravan, surrounded by her animals, in exactly the same way that I myself would love. It isnt allowed in this country. So, she and her husband have just bought a property in the spanish mountains, where they can do just that. I, on the other hand, cant afford, and dont want to leave the country, so I will continue to reside in the UK, in a house. Inside the law, making the best of things. I wont be breaking the law, buying a property and moving on anyway, then chaining myself to the fence when Im evicted!

bemybebe · 20/10/2011 12:24

"haters" Grin

Do you think the world is out to get ya?

bemybebe · 20/10/2011 12:25

Incidentally, 90s or not, I would LOVE to commute between UK and Tuscany. As it happens i married a dutch and have to commute there instead.

glasnost · 20/10/2011 12:27

It's a hip hop phrase. Wouldn't expect you to understand it.

And I thought the earlier posters were trying.

Run along now bemybabe.

needanewname · 20/10/2011 12:27

Brilliant glasnost now thinks she's brave. I've heard it all now.

I keep coming back here as to see what ridiculous posts you had made, you're really very entertaining, shame you have to insult too.

I may well have missed it be show me where maths has been insulted, as I (and others) have said, she makes some food points that I will have a lol at when get the chance.

Really leave the travellers alone glasnost, they really don't need your kind if help and support

SansaLannister · 20/10/2011 12:29

glas, you are so street. just like those illegally living in Dale Farm who are hopefully now being kicked out.

needanewname · 20/10/2011 12:30

Great idea re the emoticon glasnost, though I think you may regret it

LadyEvilEyes · 20/10/2011 12:30

Lots of good points on both sides of the debate, I'm still sitting on the fence.
But if anybody was going to persuade me it wouldn't be you glasnost.
You really are as mad as a box of frogs.

Haggyoldclothbatspus · 20/10/2011 12:31
Grin Hip Hop!
EdlessAllenPoe · 20/10/2011 12:31

EAP -- if there is a designated time limit for change of use, etc., then obviously the phenomenon is not unheard of.

the point of the law, is if something's been there 12 years, and no one has complained - it can't be that bad and they should allow it anyway. not a law that applies to Dale Farm. People have noticed.

the other claims that there would be an uplift in the value of the land..not true - there might be a slight increase -to be fair the initial purchase price of £120 k was presumably because of the possibility that you might wangle some kind of permission..the kind of planning permission that they would get comes with 'Not For Resale' stamped all over it.

Haggyoldclothbatspus · 20/10/2011 12:33

Oh dear Lady! Now you have insulted Glasnost! You will be sorry, come the revolution!

glasnost · 20/10/2011 12:33

Oh the latte of human kindness runneth not over in Sansa's world. See I can be street and classical and multilingual.

Laters. A più tardi. Buona fortuna con la campagna di odio.

2old2beamum · 20/10/2011 12:36

Whinge whinge still can't understand why my last post was deleted.

Fifis25StottieCakes · 20/10/2011 12:37

Yes some gypsies stole some puppies, Loads of people steal things round my way, smoke drugs and smash the community to bits. It does not mean every body who lives on a council estate throught the whole of the uk is like that. They are uneducated and IMO protrayed in the media as scum of the earth.

Saying to a traveller live in bricks and mortar is like saying to another religion you can only worship in the CEO. It wont happen. If the muslim community didnt get planning permission for mosques do you think they would have just quietly done without.

They have fought for years and will keep on fighting to keep their way of life which is steeped in history. For that i applaud them.

They should have removed them 10 years ago when they knew the site was illegal. The land was purchased and they own it. It cant be put back to greenbelt due to whats been on it. Some of the hard standings are also legal and cannot be removed.

So basically the council have spent 18m to remove the gypsies from their land which they cant do anything with. The council wont be able to get planning nor will a private developer. The gypsies will still own the land

The kids will be uneducated for the next 10 years whilst they try and get by. The council will have now have a huge lack of funding.

Does no one think maybe, just maybe a fraction of the 18m could have been spent educating the kids and providing a proper site where they could at least get council tax back.

Its ok though, just chuck the illiterate thieves off the land and let the whole sorry affair start again with another generation of the same.

By the way haggy, i used that example to try and say that saying gypsies are all illiterate thieves is like saying all muslims condone marrying their 12 year old daughters off to men. Not in the context you used. Maybe i should have posted it better

On the subject of the evictions, can I ask a question to those opposed to them. If you take away the terms 'traveller', 'gypsy' etc and replace them with 'people' are your arguments still valid? For example: if '100 people' have set up camp without planning permission and are refusing to leave etc. You may say they have special circumstances because they are a minority group but there are literally thousands of minority groups in this country who are not afforded the same advantage.

Thousands of minority groups in this country dont want to live on illegal campsites with the threat of eviction and inadequate facilities. They are happy with the help they recieve and are happy to live in bricks and motar which is provided. They are happy to send their kids to school knowing they wont be racially abused. Im sure if it appealed to people they would do it.

They cant live on sites such as haven and park resorts as we can. Most of these places have strict no gypsy policies. They dont have strictly no jewish, muslim, polish or council estaters. Only no Gypsys.

Anyway ladies, its starting to turn into a bit of a bunfight. There have been racist comments posted with regards to the travellers and when people have pointed them out they have been removed.

Im sorry people think i am coming across as racist, im not by the way. I have tried to use these sections of community as examples.

Sorry for the long post

tooearlymustdache · 20/10/2011 12:40

don't apologise Fifi

well said

Fifis25StottieCakes · 20/10/2011 12:40

I will leave you with this ladies in the hope that some of you may be sypathetic to their plight.

People have forgot that there is a generation of children in there witnessing this. Thats not right regardless of what their paents have done and what they are born into

"It's a hip hop phrase. Wouldn't expect you to understand it."
English is not my native language glasnost but I am sure you are fantastically fluent in mine Wink

glasnost · 20/10/2011 12:44

Oh I feel sooooooooo good. I just got some posts deleted on this thread. I feel so empowered! 2. An anti gypsy one and whomovedmycocolate's allusion to insanity. Seems YOU'RE being monitored now too.

2old2beamum it was deleted by someone not knowing you were paraphrasing an upthread rude post. I clarified this with MN Towers and they said you could repost it. So do. If you want.

Fifi25 thanks for your thoughtful posts.

mayorquimby · 20/10/2011 12:45

It's a hip-hop phrased based on the fact that because you are so successfull, talented and loved that there will always be a section of people who will try to denigrate everything you do or any work you produce due to their inherent jealousy, bitterness and ultimately due to their own self-loathing they'll hate on you.
It doesn't really apply to an anonymnous internet chat forum where people have no idea who you are and as suich are criticising your material based purely on its content.
