Why do you actually care - I dont understand why it matters 'in the grand scheme of things'.

I am not a DC fan, but this thread is really OTT.

violethill · 10/10/2010 11:49

Ah right so Samantha Cameron owes it to the public to display photos of herself bf her child? Because some nutjobs think they are entitled to cast iron evidence that she is mixed feeding?

But even if she stages a photo of her appearing to bf, it could be fake couldn't it? Or do you nutjobs need to see the baby latched on, with before and after weight figures published so you can PROVE she was feeding?

Would that make you all happy? Fill your Sunday afternoon productively?

Jeez!!!!

PrivetDancer · 10/10/2010 11:49

She is doing a good job to mix feed.

Unlike most of us she doesn't really get maternity leave does she? She's constantly having to accompany DC on a schedule and look glamorous - not easy in a breastfeeding top, and I would not want to be breastfeeding in a conference room full of photographers. I guess she has a bottle handy for when out, and who could criticise her for that?

thisisyesterday · 10/10/2010 11:51

you may have noticed from previous posts of mine that i am staunchy pro-breastfeeding

however, I think this thread is shocking!

you do NOT know what every single ladies EBM looks like. Have you seen pictures of the variety you can get? because i have. thin and watery. rich and creamy... it comes in all types! mine was particularly creamy, a friend I was donating it too said it had about double the amount of cream than hers when it all sat and separated out

totally irrelevant but i don't think that's an Avent bottl either, looks more like dr browns/

but ANYWAY... people don't breastfeed for a varierty of reasons..
ANYTHING cold have stopped her breastfeeding even if she had wanted to. maybe she physically cant? it's a minute percentage of people, but she might be in it
retained placenta stopping milk coming in
terrible time of it and no support
maybe she just WANTED to formula feed- which is fine too!

it has nothing to do with politics, and nothing to do with anyone on here.

threads like this are the reason why we all get called the breastfeeding mafia or breastfeeding nazis.
it's utterly unhelpful and makes people who FF feel got at and disliked.

as you were

thisisyesterday · 10/10/2010 11:52

oh and FTR, maybe they had pictrures taken because they don't care if people see it, it isn't something they should be ashamed of

i am guessing photographers were there.
she needed feeding.... simple as

usualsuspect · 10/10/2010 11:54

Theres a thousand reasons why DC pisses me off...this ain't one of them

LilyBolero · 10/10/2010 11:54

I strongly think it is their business, and Samantha deserves no censure whatsoever.

I also think the photos are entirely related to the row over child benefits.

POFAKKEDDthechair · 10/10/2010 11:55

'you are guessing photographers were there...she needed feeding'

arf at the idea that media exposure happens so spontaneously and is not preplanned to the second at all.

It is a bit tiring, not being able to have an opinion about a very carefully manipulated image in the press without people feeling personally attacked and being extremely rude. Having an opinion about this is not the same as condemning women who have had trouble breastfeeding [I have had huge problems myself]

differentnameforthis · 10/10/2010 11:57

Who cares? Really....

thisisyesterday · 10/10/2010 11:59

the pictures were taken before the conference. to show him "unguarded"

i don't know about you lot but i've never had much luck forcing my child to want a feed just so i can manipulate the media

she probably needed a feed and the photographer saw the opportunity and took it

yes, i am speculating.
but so is everyone else

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 10/10/2010 12:01
Biscuit

And it's our business because?

chibi · 10/10/2010 12:02

for me this picture is working on two levels

1 it is using the dad + bottle = committed father 'awwwww bless he's so hands on' etc etc image, again, why is this the only way to show publicly that you are a good father

2 it is just cynical media bumf - 'call-me-dave' is just a parent like us, we al really all in it together etc etc

a pic of sam bottlefeeding wouldn't have accomplished either of these objectives - maybe the odd person might have objected but it would not have served to reinforce a message about tories/dc himself

this image was taken and approved because of what it is saying about dc, not because of whatever it might imply about ff/bf/whatever

ScaryFucker · 10/10/2010 12:03

I truly could not give a flying fuck

In fact, I am sorry I wasted the infinitesimal wear on my keyboard just posting this reply Smile

ThighsWideShut · 10/10/2010 12:03

I like turtles.

asouthwoldmummy · 10/10/2010 12:05

Oh no, their baby is being formula-fed, what terrible parents they are! FFS!

What does it matter. Does anyone else really hate the BF/FF debate? Yes, there are studies that prove 'breast is best' but it's still the parents choice!

expatinscotland · 10/10/2010 12:09

No, I don't want to guess. Because I don't really care.

Rollmops · 10/10/2010 12:09

This is the most inane thread of all the inane threads posted here.
Such nonsencical non-issue slicing/dicing is worthy of Ed Balls. OP, are you EB?
If yes, please, go away....
[boak]

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2010 12:11

I'm guessing milk.

But she's DC's child, she's equally in danger of being fed a load of political bullshit.

LynetteScavo · 10/10/2010 12:12

There is nothing I could care less abut.

Now, if the baby wasn't being fed, and was screaming with hunger, that might be worth starting a thread.

2shoes · 10/10/2010 12:12

me thinks the op has too much time on her hands

violethill · 10/10/2010 12:12

OP has conveniently gone to work. Or so she says. She could of course be lying, and just buggered off because she realised she was on a losing streak... Perhaps she owes us all some cast iron evidence she's really at work ROFL

prettybird · 10/10/2010 12:16

There are pictures of dh giving our ds a bottle. I defy anyone to tell from the photo that the milk in the bottle was EBM or formula.

It was EBM.

Like Miasma, sometimes my EBM was rich, creamy and yellowy and sometimes it was blue-ish white and watery.

I was giving ds bottles of EBM from two weeks to "supplement" as he wasn't gaining weight - and sometimes for convenience.

My SIL is now doing the same for her twins.

It is impossible to immediately anyone for not promoting breast deefing purely on the basis of seeing a bottle and assuming that it is forumala - quite apart from the fact that it is a free country and who are we to judge.

It really is none of our business.

Fayrazzled · 10/10/2010 12:23

Foxy, you are bonkers. Why on earth should Samantha Cameron be forced to prove she is BF-ing for you to believe it. They've said she is BF-ing most of the time- we'll have to take her word for it. It's her choice.

Guacamole · 10/10/2010 12:23

Oh dear, this is all a bit too judgey for me... Looking away now...

violethill · 10/10/2010 12:26

Re: the issue of what the use of the photo is saying about DC - that's not what the OP was talking about. She was posting about what might be in the bottle. The issue of politicians staging photos to manipulate public opinion is an entirely different one, and relevant to all political parties
