Welcome everyone new and (not so) old

If you are new to us here is part 1 in case you need/want to see what we are about.

Morning all!

Why is it that you get your hair cut, you wash it and then only one side works? Will have to spend the day sideways on

Morning routine done, all off to school - complete with all letters and cheques!

Have not managed many missions this week but not much on over the weekend so will try and catch up then.......

Have a good day everybody. I'm off to work

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 29/01/2010 08:25

Morning all.

Thanks for the links mummy

Just carrying on with the Babysteps, Mission, Morning, Afternoon and Evening routine. Managed that yesterday, but nothing else. Still the mess isn't getting worse which is the main thing.

Sorry I'm not around much at the moment, hope everyone has a good day today.

pushmepullyou · 29/01/2010 11:50

Morning all

Bad hair day here too missb I can hardly see beyond my unruly fringe!

MrsD hope you are feeling better this morning!

MM you too hope things pick up soon.

Thanks for carrying on for next month DWM . Must go over and mark my place!

Routines only here at the moment. Work very hectic and also quite stressy so am being a bit rubbish at everything else. But on the plus side the house no longer descends into a hell hole everytime I am busy, so I must be doing something right!

PositiveAttitude · 29/01/2010 19:07

Nobody seems to be around, so I feel safe to sneak in and say "naff all done here today"

Out to lunch with DD3 and my parents, who I could happily have strangled before we had even arrived!
Spent the afternoon "recovering" from emotional trauma!

Family fun wii night underway, so off to join in. Champion at table tennis, rubbish at basketball or snowboarding!

have a fun evening everyone. Don't think there is any wine in the house, so may have to send DH out for an emergency trip later. (Don't mean to sound like an alcoholic, just in desperate need tonight!

Where is Ellie?

droitwichmummy · 29/01/2010 20:40

I think there is a distinct 'end of the month' feeling on this thread today Is everyone polishing their mops ready for February?

Not seen ellie for a while...

MiniMarmite · 29/01/2010 22:08

I think you're right DWM. My day was a bit better today and the house is pretty straight for the weekend and some of the cooking done.

Have a great weekend everyone and see you in the Feb thread on Monday x

feetheart · 29/01/2010 22:32

I'm still here though rather knackered after helping out on DD's school trip, hats off to all the teachers out there, I am in awe

Did get most of morning routine done before school but have done absolutely nothing else though sink is shiny. HOWEVER I was happy to invite another Mum home for lunch without much thought so things have definitely improved - not bad for the first month!

Having persuaded DH that staying at home this w/e was a good idea I think it will be a mixture of sleeping, good eating, bit of market shopping, maybe a decent run and an early-ish start on Sunday morning to watch the tennis - DS (4) is currently undecided whether he is going to be Andy Murray or Federer but he has his tennis racket out in readiness

Have a good one everyone.

optimisticmumma · 29/01/2010 22:35

Belated 'hello' to everyone!

Some flying done today but not much tbh. Looking forward to a fresh start next month. I am looking at a rather lovely pot of narcissi however, courtesy of the fat fairy's commandment!!

Busy weekend ahead but I'm hoping to catch up on the zone cleaning and do something with my filthy car!

Night all...

optimisticmumma · 29/01/2010 22:37

x posted with feetheart - I shall be joining you on Sunday morning with DS2 who is a tennis fan...

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 29/01/2010 23:15

Evening ladies,

Just popping on before going to bed to say hi and hope everyone has a good weekend.

Was quite chuffed with myself as I did all I set out to do plus I made bread and cakes today

DS3 decided while I was cooking dinner tonight to pull 6 plastic boxes of childrens boxes off the shelves and across the hall, 1 box of stuff that needs to be put in places around the house, a box full of hats and scarves, a box full of gloves, and 3 shelves of our books all across the floor, it is about a foot deep

Aaaaarrrrgh!!!

At the moment it is still there. I have decided that I am going to use the oppurtunity to finish off the shelves. Clean them all down. Sort out the DC's books and put them in piles for loft, bin, charity and those to still keep. We've looked at hteir room and I can put a bookcase in there now so will put the boxes of books up there. Will go through our books and do the same, the bottom few shelves are books that I wasn't sure about and new ones that haven't been put into the right places yet as I need to move to move some other books further up on the shelves around. Will take longer than 15 mins but it is a job worth doing. So I am going to turn a negative into a positive, which I would never of done before signing up to this thread.

missbennett · 29/01/2010 23:48

Just popping in to say good night! Very little flying done beyond basic routines. Have taken Guides out tonight. Car playing up this morning - going back to garage next week, so brought it back home and walked to station then into work via train. Lots of walking so I should definitely lose weight tomorrow!

Fairly busy weekend as DD1's party tomorrow. But will try and catch up with the missions I haven't done all week! Where are we on Monday?

Anyway, sitting in bed and need to go to sleep! Night all.

droitwichmummy · 30/01/2010 07:11

Good morning everyone!

Babystep is about planning for whatever next month will throw at us

Other than that it is normal routines.

The zone for next week is the hall/entrance and dining room so I might get the dining table cleared in anticipation (was going to do it anyway this weekend)

See you all later

OP posts:
MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 30/01/2010 08:52

Morning all.

Thanks for the links mummy. Looks like I am going to be getting a head start on that hall then

OK that babystep is going to be useful for me this month as it is my busiest month event wise. My son's birthday and party, Valentines, SIL birthday, DB&SIL's Wedding Anniversary, DH Birthday, DB birthday, DN's birthday and DF's birhtday. Will write a list and go into town on Monday and get cards and look at presents.

So today it's

Babysteps done
Morning routine
Afternoon routine
Evening routine
Hall

missbennett · 30/01/2010 09:14

Morning!

The hall is OK - it's the dining room I'm worried about - ours is dreadful . It's more of a dumping room than a dining room. Well, maybe this week I can improve.....

mrsg you've got a busy month! Our month for birthdays is March so I'll take a leaf out of your book and plan ahead!

Busy day today - got to:
-take DD1 to work - done
-go to weightwatchers
-washing - 1 load in machine
-shopping for DD1's party
-grocery shopping
-menu planning
-house overhaul - the bathroom has had a thorough clean this morning
-make sure DD2 has sufficient kit for weekend away next weekend and purchase anything needed
-catch up with missions from the week - though don't hold out much hope of that!

And no doubt more will come to mind! Right, off to face the scales......

Mmmango · 30/01/2010 10:56

Morning.

Good luck MissB with ww and MrsG with managing cards/ gifts for all that lot!

I get off easy next week - we don't have a dining room. One of the benefits to our tiny house! The entranceway is a bit of a disaster area, but this time last month it didn't seem like it because it kind of blended in with the rest of the house. Now it's obviously the one bit I haven't dealt with yet. So a big thank you to dwm and everyone on the thread

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 30/01/2010 11:02

MissB fingers crossed for you.

Our dining room is going to be a bit of a project as well. Mainly the bookshelves which have books (obviously ), DVD's, the PS2 and X-box plus their games, board games, jigsaws, boxes with train track and accesories in it, photo's that need updating, and so much general crap!

I need to get all the DVD's and games back in the right boxes. The board games sorted into right boxes. The track etc. cleaed and sorted and maybe put upstairs and different toy boxes bought down.

Also under the sofa needs looking at. I dread to think what has slid/rolled/been pushed under there and is festering.

Have done the morning routine, made bread, DC are in the shower with DH.

Need to do shopping list for DH and kick them all out the door so I can start the hall.

MrsDinky · 30/01/2010 14:33

Afternoon all,

Sorry for not posting more, have been trying to spend less time on the computer and more time actually doing things.

DD is in that phase that they all seem to get of scissor obsession, she sits for hours cutting up pieces of paper very small needless to say she doesn't pick them up afterwards, so our house keeps looking like a snowstorm.

I am pleased to say that the main parts of our house (ie everywhere except shed and loft) are now fairly thouroughly decluttered. So we are on maintenance. I am going to try getting up earlier and doing DW, washing on etc before DCs get up in Feb, as I have realised that although I am SAHM mum now and can leave these things till after the school run that a) it eats into valuable child free time and b) it won't work if I get another job.

Also, drum roll, we have just had our first slow cooker dinner, beef stew, very tasty. chopped up the carrots and onions last night when I was doing some anyway for soup, got diced meat from the butcher, browned the meat this morning, lobbed it all in, job done.

Everyone is out except me, so I am off to bake now, DS has his birthday party tomorrow so I probably won't post again till Monday/February. Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody!

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 30/01/2010 15:02

Hi Mrs D

Happy Birthday to DS for tomorrow, hope you had a good day.

Good to hear that your slow cooker experiance was good. Keep us updated. I am still dithering, I have decided to wait untill DH gets the shelves up in the kitchen to put it on before getting one. It's lovely being in the house on your own though isn't it

I am now 3/5th up the hall and it is looking good. Also got 2 loads of washing done and out and 1 lot folded and put away. So it is going well so far.

missbennett · 30/01/2010 18:49

Hello all!

So far, I've had a lovely day!

-go to weightwatchers - done - lost 2.5 lbs. Total now 64.5 lbs and I got my 9th 'silver seven'.
-washing - 1 load in machine and now out and on airer
-shopping for DD1's party - done - small fortune but she is happy
-grocery shopping - done and treated myself to flowers!
-menu planning - done more or less
-house overhaul - the bathroom has had a thorough clean this morning and I've now done some dusting in the sitting room so a bit of progress
-make sure DD2 has sufficient kit for weekend away next weekend and purchase anything needed - not done in spite of request - will nag ask nicely again!
-catch up with missions from the week - though don't hold out much hope of that! - not yet!

So not bad going! DD1 came with me and we treated ourselves to scampi and chips (yum!) in Sainsbury's cafe before doing mammoth shop, having earlier braved Iceland!

DD1 is now beautifying herself ready for party (murder mystery with 12 17/18 year olds) and the hall is set up. I have promised not to stay, not to produce photos of earlier parties, not to demonstrate my singing and not to demonstrate my dancing . In fact, I have agreed to see them get started, and leave them to it - popping in half way through to serve food and coming back at the end to clear up. The compromise from her is that she saves birthday cake to the end when we return to join in with 'Happy Birthday' ! There is a limited quantity if alcohol and they are all sensible kids. The hall is just up the road from us so I'm not far away.....but all this being nearly grown up is taking some getting used to!

DD2 is sulking as we have had words about science homework - AGAIN . Received letter from school saying she has done no science homework all term in spite of reminders etc and in spite of me goingonaboutit asking regularly! Oh the delights of teenagers

Right better go and see if the party girl is ready. I'll doubtless be back as I can't go to bed until after the party!

PositiveAttitude · 30/01/2010 19:38

missB Well done on the weight loss.
The delights of teenagers, indeed! Hope the party goes well. Always a bit scarey mix, teenagers and alcohol. DD1 would not have been allowed, but DD2 is far more sensible. I hate the "how much do we let go" thing! I am sure you wont do too much relaxing until it is all over with, but your DD does sound sensible.
Mirror image science homework with DS. No matter how much I nag ask he always says he doesn't have any, but then teacher tells me it is not done. When its history, he loves to do the homework and does loads because he enjoys it. Science is....guess what....."boring!" Limited teenage language talk for "I would prefer to be doing something else".

MrsD glad the slow cooker was a hit at first attempt. I have a new curry recipe in mine tonight - always nervous that DH wont like it! DS has just dropped his dinner all over the lounge carpet! He said second portion was nice though!

Have a good weekend everyone.

optimisticmumma · 30/01/2010 19:52

MissB - good luck for tonight! You sound very calm and in control - well done you! It is a minefield, teenagers. I think you can trust them but only so far - maybe it's because I have a DS. He's lovely but I'm very sure he would take a mile if he could!!
Well done on your fantastic weightloss - crikey!
I am rubbish at it - my downfall is wine and the nibbles that attend!!

Had a good day here. All rugby cancelled so I got out of rugby teas.Win, win situation as I still look like a helpful mum but haven't had to actually do it!
Done all the ironing and have kept up with the washing. I'm going away next weekend for an overdue girls weekend so there is good reason to keep on top of things!

See you all on the Feb thread if I can't get on tomorrow!

optimisticmumma · 30/01/2010 19:54

Happy Birthday to all the DCs

missbennett · 30/01/2010 22:27

Quick party update! All going well so far....have delivered food. They had finished murder mystery bit and now going to do 'dancing and chatting'. Still a lot of drink left so clearly not gone mad. Bit more nervous about this bit of the evening as 'unoccupied' but sure all will be well. (bites fingers nervously!)
positiveattitude you are so right - the letting go is very scary - but has to be done, little by little!
optimisticmumma I have it on good authority (weightwatchers leader!) that gin and tonic less calorific than wine. That's my story anyway and I'm sticking to it

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 30/01/2010 22:55

MissB congrats on the weight loss and glad that the party is going so well.

OM Hurrah for cancelled rugby and what is this ironing you speak of?

Lucky you to have a weekend away with the girls. Enjoy.

Right today I have done all the routines . Kept up on the washing, drying, folding and putting away.

The shelves are looking fandabydozy, even if I do say so myself Have reduced childrens books down to 5 boxes from 6, to be put upstairs. Have put all hats and scarves in a box and all the gloves in another on one shelf. There is a space for the DC to put muddy boots when they come in. There is a place for the DC to put their schoolbags. There is also a box for nappies and one for wipes. I now have a place for phone books and directories and my books, I have reduced down to half a shelf and I have 2 whole shelves empty

So a very productive day. Tomorrow I am going to try and get up and moving and take the DC to church, while DH puts a new set of shelves in the pantry to try and organise the space better. Also if he has time put the shelf bracket up for the microwave. Then we are off to PIL's for dinner. So not much will get done by me tomorrow.

Off to bed now. Sweet dreams all.

droitwichmummy · 31/01/2010 09:20

Hooray - we made it to the end of the month - well done everyone on making a difference in your home

Look at the babystep (nothing to actually do!) and enjoy your Sunday.

See you all on the February thread tomorrow
