Safe trip, MissB.

Hi everyone else, typing and feeding so apols for typos etc.

Started home blitz thing. Decided to start when dd2 goes down for a nap, stop when she wakes and continue the next day. We have a lot of tiles (kind of open plan arrangement, living room is tiled) and mopping this morning took 30 mins. Can't remember last time it was done . It'll get quicker if I do it every week though, and I now have a very nice clean floor.

Biggest problem in the living room is kids toys, we desperately need more storage. Makes decluttering a bit tricky, too.

Hope everyone's having a good day.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 25/01/2010 09:21

D'oh don't know what happend there, was meant to read..

SC eventhough you may be doing what you consider not much because of a heavy day in work at least you are keeping things going and not just doing nothing, which is what I was doing if had a busy day before I got into routines.

helpwithcleaning · 25/01/2010 14:27

Hi everyone

I'm really sorry I disappeared in the last few days. As I may have mentioned (not sure) I'm swamped with a work (big deadline looming ahead) & haven't been able to do much MNetting recently.

BUT BUT BUT I've been doing very well, I think, with the BabySteps & the decluttering. Already my house is looking SO much better.

Some questions though.

  1. I tend to skip some babysteps which don't seem to make sense e.g. 'read an inspirational essay' etc. Then on those days I just do the next babystep. Should I be leaving those days blank or am I right to be moving ahead a bit faster? (don't want to burn out doing this too quickly)...

  2. I've been naughty more generally & have been doing some of the missions as well, selectively. However, I saw that monday is 'cleaning whole house' day. Am I right to think that's way too much to do in just 1 hour? How on earth can all the house be hoovered let alone dusted etc in just 1 hour & in only one day?! How do you guys organize/manage this?

Mmmango · 25/01/2010 15:40

Well, my 15 minutes "decluttering" didn't go so well today - just moved a load of toys around and threw away about 4 pieces of paper . Think I'm going to skip the rest of the kids stuff tomorrow and move on to bookcases and desk, more promising.

Helpwithcleaning, I think technically you're not supposed to jump ahead, but I don't think it matters. Only one more week of January to go, then we'll all be back on babystep #1 for February 1. I assume the idea is we try to keep as many of the babysteps going as possible, and add in any we've forgotten as they come up again. Is that right, experienced babysteppers?

PositiveAttitude · 25/01/2010 17:43

that's right MMM - I use the month-by-month babysteps to just check that i have not missed anyhting that would be helpful. I do confess though to not doing somke of the more "twee" ones. I certainly don't do the post-its! that would send a sure message to the family that I ahd finally lost the plot totally. I am just adjusting the fat fairy wise words as I see fit. Just add in what you want to and they all come around again, so next month you may find that one of the ones that you did not get on with last month is actually quite useful.

All looking good today on here. Much going on. Just got to go and serve tea, so no catch up from me. Just to say that I am alive and managed to get to work today. I plan to do as little as possible tonight. Wine chilling waiting for me.

Have a good evening everyone.

optimisticmumma · 25/01/2010 17:55

Hi all! Just a quick flyby in case you thought I'd gone AWOL. DS2 needs comuter for Chemistry!
Catch up with you all later!

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 25/01/2010 19:18

droitwichmummy · 25/01/2010 19:18

Right - Not long got home and I am determined not to waste this evening (again!) so my list is

  1. DS to bed on time
  2. Hang washing on airer
  3. Tumble dry everything that can go in
  4. 5 min throw out in living room
  5. Eat
  6. Mending - only a couple of buttons and a trouser hem but they've been waiting for a couple of weeks
  7. S & S
  8. Shine sink
  9. Bed on time

Wish me luck...

Hi all

Hope you've had a good day. It has been snowing here again today but hasn't settled.

Hi to Optimistic and Mmango and PushmePullyou and all fellow fledglings

Same here PA, "I am alive and went to work" just about sums up my day too!!

HelpwithCleaning - don't apologise - you are doing brilliantly.

I agree with the good advice from PA and Mmango. I just tend to use the more philosophical/cutesy baby step days as an opportunity to catch up or do nothing!!

Home blessing hour (or home overhaul hr s we call it) explanation is here

As someone who alternates between perfectionism or nothing (but am trying to stop!!) I find this particularly challenging as I could never just hoover up the middle of the room and leave the sides!! But I think the general idea is that if you don't aim for perfectionism, then you think of the weekly clean as something do-able and quick, not something to dread, and therefore overcome mental resistance to the task!

Also, if you are doing the other baby-steps, have decluttered and reached the point where you are cleaning zones in a fairly detailed way, then you will probably get to the point where the weekly clean will take much less time. (It's very time-consuming, not to mention virtually impossible, to clean clutter.)

All of this is a process though. It took over 6 yrs for me to get my house in a total pickle and it's probably going to take at least 3 to get it seriously back on track!!
As ever though, you need to adapt the system to suit yourself. (Hope all of this makes sense.)

Looks like you are having a very productive day Feetheart, well done! You too MrsGok (especially with bookshelves!)

You too 1981 and am of your Burn's night supper! Sounds great!

Thanks for yr encouraging words btw Mrs Gok and Mmango - am posting about positive things because I generally spend so much time on here whinging about how I haven't done x or y!! Realised the other day that things really are improving and - believe me - if you saw the piteous state of this house pre-Flying - you would know what a miracle this is. Still lots of piteous bits but I am getting there (albeit very slowly)!! And if I can do it (with my easily-distracted-muddle-of-a-brain and general lack of commitment to anything cleaning-related) then really, truly, ANYONE can!!

Before work
Morning routine inc dw on, wm on, s&s done
Quick tidy sitting room done

After work
Hoover sitting room and hall done
Clean cloakroom done
Mission in sitting room (not too bad because fairly decluttered from before) did 15 mins
Afternoon/evening routine done
Early night hope so!!

No Camus tonight but instead a little Rabbie for your delictation with a very appropriate title:

A Bottle And Friend (1787)

"There's nane that's blest of human kind,
But the cheerful and the gay, man,
Fal, la, la, &c.

Here's a bottle and an honest friend!
What wad ye wish for mair, man?
Wha kens, before his life may end,
What his share may be o' care, man?

Then catch the moments as they fly,
And use them as ye ought, man:
Believe me, happiness is shy,
And comes not aye when sought, man.

Cheers everyone!! See you tomorrow ...

StillCounting · 25/01/2010 19:24

x posts

Hi WhereChaos - you are being v. dynamic with your plans - good news about schools and safe driving on Wednesday.

Good luck Mummy!!!

missbennett · 25/01/2010 21:00

Evening all!
Love the Burns quote stillcounting! Very appropriate!
Sounds like everybody is making good progress - all the lists sound productive and energetic! A little at a time definitely makes a difference!

I have sort of done the mission - straightened up book shelves, and went through a pile of crap papers - some have gone for recycling, some in the bin and I'm left with a big file that needs sorting properly - have only done top layer as it were but it's a start.

Will do s&s when I go for a bath and have already washed up and have a shiny sink!

Thank you all for safe trip wishes - all went well and got back safely - I'm not a happy flier (happy flyer but that's different!)- but it wasn't too bad.

Right, I'm off for my bath - do feel rather weary and I gather I've got music homework to do when DD1 gets home

MiniMarmite · 25/01/2010 21:11
