Are we all ok?

To help you recover from the journey the babystep today is a 'catch up' one

Today's mission requires a ladder

The Christmas mission is about decluttering

Off to put the kettle on. Back in a minute

Will fly tonight. want to try to get the office straight enough to work in there and have a clear room. and have christmas cards and letters to do.

optimisticmumma · 21/11/2009 17:28

Afternoon all!

I'm with you SC on the sleeping front and DH front. Trouble is he always wants a chat at about midnight!
But..I need sleep...

Haven't done much this afternoon apart from watch the England rugby match and do a bit of cooking. Ironing is calling me so I'd better go and do it before we go out this evening.

I'm leaving a bottle of red and a bottle of white on the side for anyone who wants it.

See you tomorrow....

MrsDinky · 21/11/2009 20:07

Hi Everyone,

Well, family day today and the house looks like a tip. However I can see that underneath the daily mess of toys, newspapers, shoes etc, there is a tidier house than there was a month ago, soit should be easier to put right.

Not posting a list this late in the day, but still need to do putting clothes away, ordering a few things off the internet(goody!), and general tidy up, also shine sink.

As for my paperwork, it does feel like a weight off my mind. However DH has loads too, and unlike me he has never even bothered filing it, it is just lying around in piles everywhere. He only has his own personal stuff as I do all the family paperwork, so I'm not touching it, but am tempted to put it all in a huge box and just shove it the loft out of sight.

Someone asked did I do it in 15 minute chunks? Answer is no, more like one hour chunks, I had nowhere to leave it all in-process, so not worth getting it all out for 15 mins. Basically sat in a comfy chair every night with glassofwine cup of tea at the side, surrounded by 3 boxes, keeping, shredding and recycling, to sort it all. Probably 6 hours in total. I then had to decide a system for what I needed to keep, and sort it all out, which again probably took 6 hours over 3 or 4 sessions. I still have quite a lot of shredding to do as my shredder overheats after half an hour. Also done in the evenings with telly on and subtitles!

Can I ask a question - do you all actually subscribe to Flylady? Or just manage with DWMs posts. I signed up to Flylady this week, but am finding the quantity of email a bit overwhelming.

Have a lovely evening all, off to do a bit of belated flying.

MrsDinky · 21/11/2009 20:11

PS, I also struggle with the early nights, I am knackered early evening, about now, so put off my tasks, then start on them after about 9, and find I am wide awake at 11, lights out usually between 11.20 and midnight. DH stays up much later than me usually too.

droitwitchmum · 21/11/2009 21:14

Hello and goodnight everyone. I'm going to bed - again

No flying for me at the weekend - and I refuse to feel bad about this, however I know this will have to change when mat leaves ends.

pushmepullyou · 21/11/2009 22:47

Evening all

Hello and goodnight from me too I'm afraid!

Have organised Christmas budget, done much shopping and drunk much wine today!

Also dishwasher, laundry, routines.

Would love a mini mince pie DWM, and SC I will join you on the 10:30 bedtime, but may start on Monday as I can't bear to give up the extra weekend.

Waving to ellie, DEM, OM, POA, Pluto, MrsDinky, MM, and everyone else

shonaspurtle · 22/11/2009 00:09

Hello all.

Good Day today! I had people round for the first time in ages and the flat looked good . Now just have to keep it that way.

Areas that I didn't get around to and am going to tackle tomorrow are:

  • underneath the sofa cushions (there lurks many a lego brick and odd sock as well as crumbs..)
  • inside the kitchen table (which would be a useful storage space if it wasn't full of several years worth of junk mail and bargainous IKEA paper napkins that never get used)

That's enough for a Sunday. I will also put a wash on, make sure everything's tidy before I go to bed and s&s!

droitwitchmum · 22/11/2009 08:11

Good morning everyone!

Renewing your spirit day today - its ok though, just doing something for yourself that you enjoy

Babystep today is about a control journal. I still love my whiteboard (newbies, this is a hangover from October)

Need to finish my list this morning
Home Blessing - dust, vac, doors/mirrors/bins/papers
washing - 1 load
ironing
clean light fitting in bathroom
clear out old bills etc in spare room
s&s
shine sink

Have a good sunday everyone

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 22/11/2009 09:02

Morning all,

Renewing my spirit - I think I had enough spirits last night! Feeling incredibly jaded this morning - self inflicted no sympathy needed, but Oh my head!!!!

I was actually doing laundry at 2.30 this morning when we got home! Well, I had tried to do the bed/sleep thing but someone was annoyingly spinning the room whenever my eyes closed! So I had to get up and do something to dispell the sick feeling. Sort of worked, but the kids are moaning that I was incredibly noisy!

Had to get up to do the swim training run this morning, but really have a plan of just surviving today and getting to bedtime tonight. If I manage to do that I will give myself a gold star and feel as if I have succeeded.

MrsDinky - I took advice early on and never signed up for the emails because I knew they would drive me bonkers! For me, this thread is enough to keep me on track.

DWM - Love the name, so apt! Sorry that I missed it first time round.

Pluto - Enjoy your weekends while you can!

SC - 10.30 bedtime! Yes I must do this too. Although today I have a feeling it won't be a problem, and I am talking about 10.30 this morning!!!
DH is terrible at starting deep and meaningful discussions when the DCs have all trotted off to bed and we quite often sit and talk about life well past midnight. He is a night owl and we do a lot of discussing while he is wide awake and I am half asleep which is probably why he ends up with what he suggests. Its just easier to agree with him and then I can fall asleep!!!

to everyone else, and I hope you all have a good Sunday and don't get too windblown and wet!

pushmepullyou · 22/11/2009 09:47

PAO I am rather meanly cheered by the fact that you are more hungover than me .

DH and I have promised ouselves we will start clearing the attic today . Wish us luck!

elliepac · 22/11/2009 10:15

Morning one and all,

Managed to get majority of stuff done yesterday so house is passable, almost back on track (apart from the damn laundry). Not planning on doing much flying wise today. Am going to the cinema this afternoon to watch New Moon so am actually getting out of the house in the daytime without DC's (even more unheard of than going out when DC's are in bed). Still in PJ's and just enjoying that Sunday morning feeling.

To all of you SC, DEM and others who are trying to go to bed earlier, I am the complete opposite. I need to go to bed later and not be so bloody lazy of an evening. . DH is a night owl and very rarely comes to bed at same time as me as you can set your clock by me going to bed at 10pm.

Good luck with the attic PMPY - very brave!

DWM love the December thread name. AM so glad we are carrying on...nowhere ready for the scary fly threads yet (Calm down with that whiteboard

MrsDInky I don't subscribe to flylady...I rely on the wit and wisdom of you lovely
ladies to get me through.

PA hope DD is feeling a bit better today.

Not list posting because am not planning on doing much .

Have a fab day everyone

StillCounting · 22/11/2009 13:43

Hello. Hope you are all enjoying a peaceful Sunday.

Blustery day here. Just back from riding and all the horses were skittish; the wind blew a large piece of wood (that was supposedly holding down hay bales) on to the ground and it landed with a huge bang - all the horses took off at the same instant - and one little girl took a nasty tumble and landed on her neck but thankfully all ok. Certainly blew all the cobwebs away ....

All of you with 'night owl' husbands who initiate deep and meaningful discussions around midnight ... fancy a swap???? [jealous]

My dh may not get to bed until 11.30pm but he is asleep and snoring like a trooper in under 30 seconds flat!!!

Elliepac - oh I'm certainly lazy of an evening - I just happen to be out of bed and lazy which is the worst sort!!! Well done with your Saturday cleaning orgy and enjoy your well-deserved and rare bit of freedom this pm....

Pushmepullyou re: going to bed at 10.30pm ... OK - let's do it - good idea to start on Monday night [SC looks shifty] because it's a double bill of House tonight!! (I only watch 4 tv progs a week and that is two of them!!!)
Attic clearance on a Sunday is truly noble btw. Good luck with it!!!

lol PA on your "spiritual renewal". Take more water with it!!!! I agree though that doing chores and tidying up late at night/in the early hours while slightly worse for wear is much preferable to doing it with a cracking hangover the next morning!! [hands over second paracetemol]

Droitwich - there's something v. reassuring about the fact that your whiteboard is still 'operational'!!

Um, thank you for asking about the decluttering ...

[SC fidgets, can't look anyone in the eye, starts whistling and then falls silent..]

Hope you have a good Sunday too!

Congratulations on your clean and spankingly tidy flat Shona Pluto - quite right!!! Enjoy your Sunday!!! YOu shouldn't feel bad ... "profitez" as they say over here ...

MrsDinky - Thanks so much for taking the trouble to explainyour paper-work decluttering 'methodology'. Have noted!! Boxes in front of tv good idea ...

Yes, I have same problem. Horrible 'dip' between about 5pm-6pm - drink coffee to perk myself up - which means I'm wired by bed-time!!!

On the subject of receiving all the e-mails, I think you can follow everything perfectly well by following the steps on here every day + browsing on the Flylady website from time to time if there's something in partic. you are not clear on. I signed up for the mails when I ran the thread (got them sent to separate free e-mail account that I only look at from time to time) but tbh the amount was still slightly over-whelming and I don't think the e-mails add that much (I can do without all the testimonials for example but occasionally there's a good tip in amongst all the dross!)

Einstein - good luck with your desk clearance and card-writing. I feel your pain!!

Thanks for your kind words (as ever) Mini-Marmite - that was a cracking list you got through yesterday ...how's the ironing going?

Flaps wings at Optimistic and anyone I have missed

OK - confession time -

On the negative side - only just starting decluttering of office now

On the positive side - all the things that I would have been doing on a Sunday afternoon before I started Flying such as washing school uniform, rushing around in a panic trying to find things amidst general clutter - are all taken care of ...

... so thinking positively ... onward and upward everyone!!!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday ...

My dd

QueenofDreams · 22/11/2009 13:46

Hi ladies.
Yesterday's acheivements
Washing up done
Kitchen surfaces kept clean
15 minutes declutter in bathroom
Toilet, basin, bath and windowsill cleaned
1 load of laundry done

I decided that was enough for one day.
I'm taking a rest today, so my list
do washing up
wipe surfaces
shine sink

I drank rather too much last night as well. No hangover here this morning though.
I'm always up late as DP gets home from work about 9.30 ish, so then have to eat do washing up etc. And DP is another one who likes to have these meaningful chats late at night. Lately we've been talking money and budgeting

Big waves to everyone! Have a great sunday.

StillCounting · 22/11/2009 13:46

oops - ignore last line

StillCounting · 22/11/2009 13:48

x posts QueenofDreams - oh yes, money discussions late at night are definitely not conducive to sleep ...congrats on your productive day yesterday.

Pluto · 22/11/2009 14:53

Well - weather is so bad here I'm doing some flying today anyway and hopefully I'll reap the rewards tomorrow.

d/w loaded and on done twice
church and then into town to buy ds waterproof shoes done

tidied kitchen done
shine sink done

w/m loaded and clothes hanging all over the spare room and the rest of the house done three times

now I'm going to sort out my wardrobe - I have a whole heap at the bottom of it - handbags, shoes, gloves and scarves that all need reorganising.

Hope the rest of you aren't too soggy. I've got absolutely drenched in the rain twice this weekend along with the rest of the family - hence the enormous pile of washing.

MrsDinky · 22/11/2009 18:32

Hello, checking in late again today

Thanks to everyone who has told me about their experience (or not) of subscribing to Flylady. I will keep it going for now but divert them into a separate folder to stop them swamping my inbox.

Well, last night, asked DH to sort out his unopened mail pile which was about 6 inces deep on the coffee table, and he did it straight away, result!

Then, this morning, it was clearly going to be a stay at home day due to the weather, I was trying (and failing) to get the floors clear enough for hoovering (DCs trail stuff out faster than I can pick it up) when there was a gap in the showers, DS wanted to play outside and DH said you take them out, I'll hoover and finish cooking lunch. Which was nice. So the house looks much better tonight (the hoovering situation had been getting pretty desperate). To top it all he has just put on a load of washing. Top marks to MrDinky.

Tonight I am going to have a go at menu planning. This used to be a regular habit Chez Dinky, but has fallen by the wayside in the last year or so and I have fallen into the trap of going to Sainsburys and spending 20 quid every day, which really has to stop.

Another vote here for carrying on as we are into December, December is busy enough as it is and I for one am definitely going to still be a fledgling and want the support from this thread.

droitwitchmum · 22/11/2009 19:13

Quick peek in before DS bedtime.

Re December thread: I am very happy to keep the thread going unless someone else is offering to take on the posting of links.

Either way I'm all for continuing - the other flyin threads are not for me just yet.

SC thank goodness everyone was ok - hands over large brandy

Back later

OP posts:
DidEinsteinsMum · 22/11/2009 19:35

Well yesterday was the hell that was toys r us, today was the hell that is Ikea, sainsbury's and tesco. Could have just done sainsburys but ds is bad at shopping trips and he was warned if he didnt behave we would go to another one so he could practice. he slept 15mins between shops so was almost civilised in T's. Not even done the school/work washing yet so off to do. Ignored the cards they can wait have other stuff that needs doing so been doing 30 secs here and 30 secs there as things grab my attention.

Hope all had a nice weekend.

StillCounting · 22/11/2009 19:41

Yay!!! Terrific that you are happy to continue as leader Droitwich - it's really good of you to offer - hope not too onerous ...you are GREAT at it AND you are always brilliantly punctual and reliable too ... ....so much appreciated.

Thanks for brandy! Yes, there was one of those horrible 30-second pauses where everyone was thinking "oh no, this could be very serious", but thank heavens, all OK.

MrsDinky - I've seen some threads on here about Robo-hoovery-things - I wonder if they are any good? - I think they skirt around toys and obstacles don't they? On the other hand, have also seen threads saying "My robo-hoovery thing has broken" .. so not sure if they are just a gimic or not.

Top marks to MrDinky and Pluto for all your sorting out today.

I have finally, finally re-started home office decluttering. Did x2 of 15 mins. It wasn't pleasant ...so much more to do it doesn't bear thinking about ...but finally under way ....

See you all tomorrow morning. G'night ...

StillCounting · 22/11/2009 19:42

x posts! Hello to Einstein!

walkthedinosaur · 22/11/2009 19:48

Hello all I'm skulking back, my house completely collapsed all for the want of a box of dishwasher tablets . Sink didn't shine, did ironing and didn't put things away, everything got away from me in just a couple of days and I had that horrible out of control feeling that I had before I started doing this. Still, had a relatively OK weekend and got on top of everything again - bought the DW tablets on Friday evening .

So have polished, cleaned, scrubbed and mopped all day and am feeling much better, just about to have a quick bath and will then do my ironing (and put it away) while watching House tonight.

Have packed DC's school bags all ready for tomorrow so am back on track.

See you all tomorrow.

MiniMarmite · 22/11/2009 22:13

Evening All

Just checking in but must not read or write much - trying to start to havestick to a sensible bedtime.

Had a good weekend both with house stuff and socially. House was so tidy we decided to have an impropmtu dinner party (well spag bol with our neighbours anyway) this evening.

DH has come over all strange and keeps putting loads of washing in the machine without me asking too!

I have eaten too many chocolates and drunk yummy fizzy red wine AND I did my ironing ...and all is right with the world.

Catch up with you properly tomorrow, night

MiniMarmite · 22/11/2009 22:16

But, just a quick (but big) thank you to DWM for being our leader this month and agreeing to continue during December.

Bisuit shaped medal coming your way!
