Everyone welcome!

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As Christmas is approaching I'll also post Christmas missions.

I'll post links early in the morning on the relevant day while I'm, making the coffee and brewing tea.

Good luck!

Crikey!! Everyone's lists are v. v. impressive!! Congratulations everyone!

Still very much in holiday mode here (yippeee!!!)

Very relieved that we have a 'consolidating' baby-step today!! Thanks for that and the zones + Christmas missions Droitwitch

Today have tackled some of my laundry pile, made chocolate muffins and took dd + friend to an old fashioned "marionette show" with 30 other screaming 6 year olds..

Has anyone got a cork-screw?

StillCounting · 03/11/2009 17:25

x posts PA

poor you ...!!!! That sounds a bit grim!!

urgently scrabbles around for cork-screw ... found it ... pours PA large glass ....

Sleepisnotoptional · 03/11/2009 17:33

Actually not been told that so really helpful. I am struggling to get through what has been planned and knowing when to change/finish each activity. I suspect it is something that has to be learnt by feel. So that is my focus tomo. have yr8 and yr7 classes again tomo and thurs so lots of opportunity to work on it.

elliepac · 03/11/2009 18:04

sleepisnotoptional It is something that comes with experience. If you are struggling to get through everything then simply you are putting too much in. As for when to switch tasks, there is a knack to spotting the golden moment but the trick is always to start thinking about it when pupils are nearing the end of the task you have set. Keep an eye on them and then when most (some never will )appear to be finishing, I always give them a time limit to finish say 3 mins. FOr every task set, give a time limit and tell the pupils that and stick to it unless it become clear during the task that it was unrealistic. I sometimes use the mission impossible theme tune as a countdown (off the internet) or you can also get the countdown clock on your smartboard if you have access. HTH.

MrsDinky · 03/11/2009 18:11

This is certainly giving me the boot up the backside I needed!

From todays list

empty DW - done
do washing - done, need to hang up
put away DDs clean washing from yesterday - done
do some shredding of old letters etc - do later
file some other stuff (as per today's task, it's on dining room floor as haven't got a table in there) - do later
Tidy upstairs in order to hoover tomorrow - done.

Have also dusted dining room and hall, sorted shoes for recycling and made DS' packed lunch for tomorrow.

Sleepisnotoptional · 03/11/2009 18:18

Supervising teachers seem to think that the content amount is ok. But year 7 will dawled forever and need shoving along in the right direction. Was trying to get half class to finish before thinking about ending task but it is very mixed ability which makes it hard. Will try the strict time limits for tasks. Like the idea of a countdown clock and will see what i can find.

Sleepisnotoptional · 03/11/2009 18:20

Opp hit post too soon.

Thank you very much indead ella.
It is a hard phase at the moment as the mo i teach the more i realise i need to learn. Thankfully i am finding one or two problems at a time so i can target.

elliepac · 03/11/2009 19:21

Wine . Have a full assortment so please help yourself...I know I am .

sleepisnotoptional keep on going, you sound like you are doing a fab job

PA I think you have more than enough on your plate as it is with builders etc. You have only one pair of hands and am sure dust is the priority. Have some wine, I always find it helps (that is if you can find it in the dark!)

SC muffins sound lovely. Am currently wading through my mountain of washing so have full sympathy.

MrsDinky sounds like you are making a fabulous start. You are right about the boot, i need one every day otherwise nothing would get done!

Well, have achieved just about everything today. Have done most of evening routine already, made dinner (well, it's nearly ready) done my declutter (yeah, I think that's a first) and i can't believe what 15 mins decluttering can actually achieve, why did i never get round to it before. Hallway looks so much better, still some way to go but getting there! More washing on/drying/away. DW unloaded.

Am going to drink relax while marking exam papers.

MrsDinky · 03/11/2009 19:54

Just like to say thank you to everyone who has made me feel welcome here. And off I go to my shredding, which is no small matter when you have hoarded 25 years worth of bank statements and bills in the loft for no particular reason. Depressing to note that I used to take £10 out of the cashpoint and it would cover my entire weekly spend!

hellsbelles · 03/11/2009 20:03

Hi All,

Learnt my lesson today - I didn't lay out my clothes last night and got into such a state this morning trying to find everything! Ended up being very late....

Everything flows so much better when I actually follow the steps!

Sleepisnotoptional · 03/11/2009 20:18

hells. Wouldnt have got the fairy cakes baked before school if i had to go hunting. Doing hunting tonight for a smooth tomo.

Ella do you have an alterative to wine? Gives me migranes and want a functioning brain for later... ta.

Ah its alright got a medicinal vodka and orange.

havingagiraffe · 03/11/2009 20:20

Totally agree Hellsbells and as stupid as I thought the clothes one was I find it's a must for a good start to the day.

Ellie Uncanny - DP used to use Mission Impossible for clearing up at the end of the lesson (primary yr 5 or 6) and he said they ended up like little Pavlov's dogs! SINO you sound like you are coping really well, it also sounds like horrendously hard work, am surprised you have time for flying.

SC Sounds like a lovely start the hols. Will DD expect such entertainment all week. Muffins mmmm.... I am seriously short of cake this week- must put on shopping list.

SV I would've been disappointed if you'd chosen housework over seeing a friend. Definitely the right decision.

Did pretty well today - think I finished my list but not going to look now. DP is ill AGAIN - men! Actually he has a temp and has been sick and generally looks awful. Made my day long though as he is normally on hand to help with DS's tea and bath and bed. Also looks like I'm on night duty alone!

Swimming bags packed for tomorrow and shopping list ready for supermarket run. Sink clear and clean, but not shined . I'm knackered. Pour me a large white please

elliepac · 03/11/2009 20:21

sleepisnotoptional shall make sure I pick up some vodka on the way home tomorrow, just for you.

positiveattitudeonly · 03/11/2009 20:22

Thanks for all the wine.
Feeling much better. Sorry about the rant earlier. I went a bought a special electro duster thingy and have wizzed round and now feel quite smug tipsy relaxed!

I am going to be a sad muppet according to my kids and take this duster into work tomorrow.

Laptop is just about to run out of charge, so must come off. Still no lights in the front of the house. DH is out, so it will have to wait for later when he gets home. I tackle most DIY, but am a litttle scared of electrics.

Night night ladies, sleep well. - I know its early, but will "see" you all tomorrow. Why is that bottle winking at me again? If I just have another little one i won't feel too bad in the morning, will I??

Sleepisnotoptional · 03/11/2009 20:36

HAG- wouldnt be able to be organised without doing a little bit of the flying. Dont do much during the week or when I have ds. Being boy free means I can to a HIT on the house so mid week is maintance.

Have done:
pp assign tasks
Play with ds -actually plug dvd in
Done ds' reading
hunting for clothes that fit for tomo

To do lesson prep but that gets done better at 5am when there is no one on mn distractions

PAO -electrics are dangerous so if you are not sure best to leave. Do you have a fuse box that is switches or fuse wire fuses? It could be a simple case of something shorting out/several light bulbs blowing altogether that has taken a fuse out for safety.

droitwitchmum · 03/11/2009 21:02

Wow - how busy have you all been today!

Hope there's some wine and muffins left for me?

I've finally managed to go through all the coats hanging up in the hall, DS has tried all of his on so I can put the ones he has grown out of in spare bedroom ready for dispatching next door for their DS or to MIL for jumble. Wish I'd known she was going to pop in today (they NEVER pop in) as I would have left her about 3 bags of stuff I've already got in there for her which are getting in the way of my decluttering - I'd put them in the garage if it wasn't for the mice. MIL did leave cottage pie though

Done most of my list - and yes today's mission was one from last week so not done that, a different one appeared on my digest e-mail about hotspots but not until after I had posted
dressed done
breakfast done
write cheque for DS dinner money done
DS & DH up done
empty DW done done
make lunch not done so bought sandwich today
s&s done
ironing steam press heating as I type
vaccuum living room - leaving this until house blessing on Saturday
15 mins declutter hall DONE
put washing away ds has done his
shine sink

I'm making a bid for being the oldest on here - birthday on Thursday! 42

hellsbelles · 03/11/2009 21:21

sleepisnotoptional - fairycakes before school?! You are a truly advanced flylady

Pluto · 03/11/2009 21:33

I am very pleased with myself. I have got all sets of bags packed for tomorrow for various swimming, school and trip to friend's that are taking place with the DSs. I have also got a shiny sink, a fish pie defrosting for tomorrow night, packed lunch made, pram and coats ready to go for tomorrow morning, a bag filled with things for a charity collection on Thursday, money for a school outing for DS all enveloped up, clothes drying on the airer, a tidy house and a lovely big glass of red wine....

....and a nasty big pile of ironing waiting menacingly at the top of the house ...

Sleepisnotoptional · 03/11/2009 21:41

Nah helles. Havent got to swish and swipe yet. just mad! and needing to do something to sort ds/me relationship out. It won me serious boy points.

droitwitchmum · 03/11/2009 21:46

Managed to get all my ironing done - 40 mins - not bad. But it is quick with my press & I only iron the minimum.

Huge waves to everyone
Pluto So organised - v impressed!
SINO - v worried - baking before school! What time did you get up?
PAO if you've had wine PLEASE step away from the fusebox! Congratulations on your electric duster thing
MrsD I'm so pleased you feel so welcome. Does anyone out there know how long you need to keep statements for? I've got loads waiting for the shredder but will I ever need any of them again?
well done to everyone. I'm getting an early night before I get too tiddly.
See you in the morning

optimisticmumma · 03/11/2009 21:48

Well done everyone! I think we've all had a very productive day.
Thanks for wine Elliepac. I also use the countdown explosion for my Y3/4s on the whiteboard. Funny how these little tricks work for all ages!! sino i agree with everyone else you sound like you are going great guns. Love the fairy cake baking before school!

Sorry DWM I can beat you on the age thing but I thought we weren't going to talk about it!!
Enjoy your magic duster thingy PAO. I've got a vivid picture of you running frantically from home to office with it!!

See you all tomorrow....

Jumbs · 03/11/2009 21:53

Wow, some of you guys have done a lot today! I did 30 mins of decluttering in hall, took summer shoes up and ventured into the understairs cupboard. Nearly just closed the door again, it is a real chuck it in and close the door quick cupboard! I ended up throwing away 6 x cans of keo larder and 8 x bottles of hoegarden - all with a use by date of some time in 2007!

Evening All

Only allowing myself 5 minutes on here as I'm tired as tired can be and must go to bed so not read all your posts today . I have managed to pick up that SINO is baking before school. Are you superwoman? . Pre-DS I might have been known to do a bit of pre-work baking but those days are long gone!

We've all been at home in the Marmite household - DS still has croup so DH and I both worked from home and took it in turns to look after DS. Poor little chap is still quite poorly but in good spirits. As you can imagine there was quite a mess at the end of the day as DH and I were trying to get work done (and DH is still working) and look after DS so the house was low priority. I've had a bit of a run round for an hour or so this evening but only babysteps for me as far as today's tasks go.

DH did go to the Heart Foundation shop with a bag of clothes and brought back some new bags to fill. It seems they urgently need bric-a-brac and woollens...so if any of those bunnies (sorry I know I'm not supposed to mention those in November) need a good home then that might be a good place to send them!

I'm off tomorrow so I'll catch up with your news properly my decluttering when DS is asleep.

dreamteamgirl · 03/11/2009 23:22

Hi all
Just wanted to pop in as I javent been here in a couple of days and so much has happened

Havent done this weeks missions- been too busy, but house is still neat and tidy, and I explained hotspots to DS on Sunday who understood, agreed and then went a put one in his room out My 4.5 year old is either brainwashed or a genius LMAO

Cant recall everyone has said but welcome to newbies and MM hops DS' croup is better soon

I think bank statements is a year, but most people keep 7. I read a good idea is to scan them and shred as soon as you have backed up. Would solve the clutter wouldnt it?

Later all xx DTG
