Over here everyone!

OP posts:
positiveattitudeonly · 17/10/2009 13:09

Hi all,

Just a quick fluttering past.

Not one tick has happened on my weekly "to-do" list this week! Pretty rubbish, isn't it??

So, I am not going to pretend that I am going to catch up with all that lot. But before I go away I must:

Panic (What a good start Elliepac)
File on-line Tax return
Finish paid work for client
pack
cook 3x meals for 6 (this is on top of feeding them all this weekend!)
Go to swimming gala this evening with DS
Do x number of loads of washing, sorting, ironing etc.
Change bed sheets cos I won't do them Monday morning!

If anyone sees me lurking on this, or other threads before this is all done you have my permission to yell loudly at me! I feel so totally disorganised at the moment again.

Elliepac - Panic doesn't need to be on my lisst, I think I am doing that quite naturally at the moment!

DWM Absolutely love the quote and far more me than the "Camus Incident" LOL Also good quote from DTG MMM Sounds like a good night. Do all your RL friends know now then? Hope you are feeling more lively.

OM, GTGH (love the new name!!) and everyone else who struggles with paper work- I am with you all on the paper work front. I get paid to do other people's paperwork, amongst other things, but am useless at organising my own!!

Right off to see if I can do a few things on my list. Number 1 PANIC!!!!!

droitwitchmum · 17/10/2009 13:11

That's better

Anyway - my list for the weekend

finish finding spare room floor
mending
DS to try on pile of clothes to see if they still fit
DS homework
clean out medicine cupboard
clear dining table
change beds (1 done; 1 to go)
full sink clean
empty bins

If I get time I also plan to mow the lawns and trim the hedge (and take clippings to tip for composting)

Back later

Countingthegreyghouls · 17/10/2009 14:02

I like it Droitwitch!! Lovely weather for autumnal gardening ...

ROFL that is priceless Elliepac!! (Will pin it up above dh's desk I think!!) Good luck with your house rescue and clothing your dc.

Aaargghh hello PA - you caught me out - if you shouldn't be on here then nor should I!! Even your reduced list looks pretty full on ...!! Wish I could give you a hand x

Can I join in the general cry of "panic"!!!

Waves to fellow stationery junkie Pink!! Hope it's all going OK so far ....

Glad you had a good night MiniMarmite

Dreamteam to be honest, they are all pretty much of a muchness, it's as Pink says, it's all in the doing rather than the reading ...(wish I could take my own advice about that)

"How be the perfect housewife" by Anthea Turner (I know, I know ) is very succinct and practical

"Time Management for Manic Mums" ( again that I need this with only one child) - has good chapter on focusing time where it is most important (based on premiss that as we can't manage time, we have to make hard decisions)

"Life Laundry" books by Dawna Walter (of tv film) Ok but covers fairly obvious ground

"Confessions of an Organised Homemaker" by Deniece Schofield - totally barking - wd you number the back of each individual piece of every one of your dcs'jigsaws?

"The Family Manager's Everyday Survival Guide" by Kathy Peel - some good tips and worth reading but very similar to Flylady really

"Speed Cleaning" by Jeff Campbell some good technical tips for cleaning quickly but again it's more about methadology than anything original.

And here's my final quotation for the day ...

... "Action is the antidote to despair."
(Joan Baez)

And on that note .... see you (waves at anyone I've missed)

frazzled74 · 17/10/2009 16:11

I have decided that i can not stick to the flylady routines at weekends. What with dh and all 3 dc's at home, ballet, swimming, visits from mil and working most saturday nights! it is impossible, although i am dressed to shoes!

elliepac · 17/10/2009 16:39

Well frazzled if you are dressed to shoes you are one up on me . I wouldn't worry about weekends, even the great fat fairy herself says that weekends are family time therefore what the fat fairy says goes.

CTGH another one for you:-
"Charm is a way of getting the answer yes without asking a clear question." CLearly Camus had met my DH in a previous life and from now on I shall mainly be taking tips from him . Loving the Joan Baez quote by the way.

Well, panic over for now. Mum has been and gone, house is vaguely presentable, am stood in the kitchen listening to the washer whirr round in a soothing manner and the tumble drier purr and tea is cooking (a la carte menu tonight.....oh no it's sausage mash and beans...don't think you'll all be adding that to your meal plans will you .

Anyway,must go turn my sausages.

pink1970girl · 17/10/2009 20:24

evening all, thought i'd drop a line in the adverts... you know the best laid plans of mice and men...well DD has started the Tamiflu today she wants mummy all the time and not her little brother climbing all over her.)
baby step for today, bed by 10pm.
hopefully will make it.
CTGH oops in my sad book list i forgot life laundry and time management for manic mums!
what a collection!

fluttering up to bed with DD and XFactor xxx

frightstick · 17/10/2009 20:33

Would it be wrong to buy this for my control journal?

Evening to everyone - I do believe it's my round!

elliepac I hope you've managed to get the place ship shape. I have no mother or mother in law but my elder sister is forever popping in at tea time to see Dcs, when the floor is covered in pasta and I've just managed to pull their tea together whilst destroying my kitchen and leaving them to destroy the play area.

She never says anything but I can smell her disdain

Well done droitwitch - an inspired choice.

My weekend list
wash shirts done
iron shirts
cook roast chicken (with leftovers for the week)
decontaminate highchair (x 6) done (x3)
put baby clothes on ebay
hoover downstairs done
clean kitchen floor

I have no self help books - but my Gran used to have a book called 'tips and wrinkles' that I was obsessed by when I was little. It was essentially full of stain removal and cleaning tips and I wish to god I could remember any (apart from putting things with chewing gum in the freezer)

pink1970girl · 17/10/2009 20:45

ooh frightstick think it would be a lovely CJ, bridgewater stuff is my favourite

droitwitchmum · 17/10/2009 22:00

Evening frightstick red for me please!

Not done much on my list today although I have cleaned out medicine cabinet and changed DS bed (washed and dried).

Got sidetracked and defrosted freezer instead of doing my list - no I don't know how that happened either! Gave my sink a nice soak in bleach while I chipped away though and DW has been on at least twice today. Oh and I've done the washing. Done more than I thought

Pink hope DD is a bit better tomorrow - it always happens doesn't it? You decide to start and then life gets in the way! Just try to do babysteps and if you 'only' get to shine your sink every day while she's ill at least you will have a nice shiny sink every morning (starting to sound like the fat fairy - vvvv worried)

droitwitchmum · 18/10/2009 06:37

Morning everyone!

Got a day at home today so need to try to do rest of my list. I'm left with:
finding the rest of the spare room floor
mending
DS to try on clothes to see if they fit
change our bed
bins
clear dining table
ironing
mow lawn and trim hedge if time

Have a good day everyone. I'll peek in later

TheBlairSnitchProject · 18/10/2009 09:53

Was getting a bit depondents about the state of the house after last weeks illnesses but we were expcting DH's sister and family to visit yesterday so DH helped me tidy and the house looks so much better now

So I'm all set to start again tomorrow and get back on track.

Got lots of babysteps to do to catch up though. Might try 2 a day till I'm back up to date. This is my second time through after all so I should be able to do it.

ParanoiaBigPumkinDestroyer · 18/10/2009 11:10

My house is a mess again. All it takes is for DH and DS to have a Saturday at home and all my hard work is undone. How very dare they?

My list for today...

Tidy up kitchen and living room
Make my bed - I think its current unmade state is making me feel grumpy
Swish and swipe

Have a big walk to blow away the cobwebs

havingagiraffe · 18/10/2009 13:24

Had a skim though last couple of days and I see we are getting all philosophical again, which I can hardly spell on a Sunday let alone be.

Had nieces to stay last night (8 & 6) so house became chaotic and covered in sweet wrappers, clothes, high school musical stuff and hairbands!. DS loved it though and there's nothing like watching Strictly with little girls ("oh i love her dress" 10 10 10 - shouted at the top of their voices)

Bed not even made but chicken in oven and DP walking to Morrisons to get the wine.

Most important job today:

Catch up on last nights X-factor

optimisticmumma · 18/10/2009 15:11

Just fluttering through to have a look at what you've all been up to...
Am loving the Hallowe'en name changes too. not sure i can be bothered to work out how to do it though.
DWM what are you on???? Can I have some? Do you ever run out of energy??I am so impressed with your lists....
Frightstick am also a Bridegewater lover ( but can't stand Cath K - shh)so am loving the CJ file...

Today my DH has cleared out our garage, yes I'll say it onemore time, CLEARED OUT THE GARAGE!! A major achievement in the Optimistic household. I did have to help however in order to make absolutely sure nothing went back in that 'could be useful in the future'. 2 trips to the dump later and I'm very satisfied!!

Not much else done. Chicken in oven, wine in fridge, x factor later....bliss

nightmareteamgirl · 18/10/2009 16:03

Hi all
pink hope DD gets well soon. Flu is horrid!

frightstick that folder is fabulous!! You do indeed need it for ypour control journal

elliepac how was the tidying? Was it easier than normal?

DWM good hallowe'en name

OM to change name you just go to my account screens and do it there. No idea what you could name change to tho, sorry! WTG to your DH

PBPD LMAO at your name!!!!

All
Dont feel like you have to do so much at the weekends, and things like 'tidy lounge' can be soul destroying. Maybe just say '15 mins room rescue on lounge' instead. Its so much more finite and will probably have almsot the same net result, but a lot quicker!! Get those timers out people!!

FullMooniMarmite · 18/10/2009 19:09

Hi All

Just a quickie as have to feed DS in a mo (but I'm sure I'll be back later)!

Fruitstick Tips and Wrinkles is still in print

positiveattitudeonly · 18/10/2009 19:17

Hi all,

I am allowed on for a few minutes for an update on how far I have got:

Panic - Plenty done but the potential for a little more by the time I get the boat at 9.30 in the morning.
File on-line Tax return - Couldn't do, stupid thing needs an activation code, so I will have to leave it til I get back.
Finish paid work for client - done
pack done (ish)
cook 3x meals for 6 - All done and in freezer, but also caught DH looking at the times of opening at Pizzahut!
Go to swimming gala with DS - did last night. He swam well and team won.
Do x number of loads of washing, sorting, ironing etc.- done only one more load to do! Phew!!!
Change bed sheets cos I won't do them Monday morning! - Ok, well, I will do them Monday morning, cos I really cant be bothered to do another thing tonight!

Also cleared the car out for all the luggage.
I must write emails to a few people before I go, so that's why I am sneaking on here.

OM - Must be something in the air, DH cleaned our shed out yesterday. We can now all get our bikes out without having to grab, lift and scream loudly as everything falls. It would have been nice to have this done for the summer as the kids gave up trying and would just get me to do it, but DH says it is ready for next summer. We'll see, I wonder how much stuff will be dumped in there before the spring???

Keep going all of you and I will catch up next weekend, but I am only home for 4 days, then off again, so i will have to join you all properly again in November. Don't forget me!

pink1970girl · 18/10/2009 19:33

hi, almost managed to get to bed by ten last night,
today has been a bit wierd with DD and the "slime" 'flu
did some ironing, put all kids toys in a big pile in the living room, now in bed with DD again watching that mentally challenging programme "family fortunes". LOL!
thank goodness we got x factor later.

Here's my list for tomorrow...
1] get me and children up and dressed
2] put a load of laundry in and see it through to putting away.
3] make lots of packing lists for our holiday on saturday
4] make something for tea
5] have a me time bath!

will let you know how it goes,
ps DH is doing the washing up, so should have a shiny sink soon !

droitwitchmum · 18/10/2009 19:45

PAO you managed to do all that? I'm impressed

pink hope DD is better in time for the holiday. Your list for tomorrow looks manageable (especially the me time bath

I'm all done for today apart from emptying bins and shining my sink. Everything done apart from mowing the lawn but I did trim the hedge and take the trimmings to the tip.

Looking forward to tackling our bedroom next week although I think DH is worried. Changed bed today in readiness.

Off to bed on time tonight - see you tomorrow

positiveattitudeonly · 18/10/2009 19:48

GGGRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! DD3 just spilt hot chocolate all over my cream sofa covers!

Now I will have to do yet another load of washing, drying and put them all back on the sofa in the morning before I go!

I will set my alarm for 5am I think!

DevilsEnticeMadness · 18/10/2009 20:34

That is it. I have started this twice already (under different names) and failed twice already. it is getting stupid. I need this. Going to start again. Off to shine my sink also have to:
Finish emptying bins,
Finish washing (need uniforms for tomo )
Make my bed (clean bedding tonight )

If anyone sees me about mnet and i havent been here come and tell me to focus. I need a good kick to start getting this into habit.

droitwitchmum · 18/10/2009 21:29

Hi Devils welcome back! You can do this - if I can, anyone can. My sister has just been round (unannounced) for the first time since I started and was amazed. Really satisfying as she spends HOURS on housework and I don't.

One of us often opens the wine sometime after 9 in the week so we can celebrate or commiserate together.

If I don't see you tomorrow I'll come and find you!

DevilsEnticeMadness · 18/10/2009 22:33

Thanks.
I have an almost shiney sink. Need something to remove the baby oil ds washed it in. Thinking vinegar but any suggestion would be grand.
Bins emptied
10 min hit on bedroom done
washing - ummmm. well last load of stuff needed for tomo morining in machine. Have to be up at 6am so will put on to dry then.
Hava also had a hit on my filing system for this block of work. It is lovely and labelled properally. feeling like i achieved something today. Now need to sort this early night and sleep thing out.

right wont be on first thing so here is my list for tomo

Baby step 2,
10 min hit on desk in bedroom
Finish washing laundry
Lesson prep
Ds trip out after school
Particle physics assignment finish off in rough

That's the plan but will happy if i do all except the assignment.

Look forward to meeting everyone.
DEM.
(normally DidEinsteinsMum)

nightmareteamgirl · 18/10/2009 22:53

Hey DEM

For your sink, I am thinking washing up liquid on basis that it is a degreaser and oil is a grease ...

Maybe on really thick and leave for half hour then pour boiling water over
That said a very small amount of baby oil is great on stainless steel sinks to keep them shining

Welcome back anyway

nightmareteamgirl · 18/10/2009 22:56

Oooh and forgot thank you to CTGH for her book run down. I fancy the anthea Turner one, but it would add to clutter so may have to resist.

I am also a stationery addict Tesco's at back to school was my idea of HEAVEN !!!

House has reached end of weekend at about 75% tidy so chuffed with that, especially as I have a raging hangover- was out childfree for the night
