Over here everyone!

OP posts:
MiniMarmite · 15/10/2009 21:32

Good to see you Snitch, take it easy, takes a while to get over these things.

droitwichmum · 15/10/2009 21:32

Hi everyone! How good are we - 24 hours into new thread and already on page 2

Had good day today. Energy level back up which is good.
Today's list
dress done
get DH and DS up done
breakfast done
make lunch done
Make bed done but only just
clean bathroom sink done
fingerprint DS' room done
clean bathroom scale done and found there was no battery in it
polish in DS room done
15 mins room rescue spare room (can nearly see the floor now!) done
Hotspot - computer desk (thanks DH!)done
shine sink

wipe white board clean - last thing before bed; it must be nice and shiny for tomorrow morning!

optimisticmumma · 15/10/2009 21:39

Only just managed to get on here now! Nice new shiny laptop . DD and DS2 have both had a powerpoint presentation to do for tomorrow which meant no mumsnet for me!!

Thank you for asking about DS1 CTGH and minimarmite. No he doesn't have to have a cast but no rugby for a few weeks and he's struggling with a pair of crutches.

How I sometimes long for the wonderful days of 10month babies although I think you ladies are awesome with the flying as well. I can't even remember DS2s first 6 months!!!!He is the third. Now, at 12, I am reduced to making stuff up to go in his baby book as he was so affronted that it was barely filled in...take note!!

Had a very productive day otherwise:

set up new computers
Did 3 loads of washing
1 lot of ironing (shh)
made fish pie
decluttered under computer table.
Did the mission
Did the hosp appt

DS2 wasn't strung up by his teacher and was actually very philosophical about the prospect of a telling off. She was good about it though and it's a good learning point for DS2

Have decided to leave DCs bedrooms until halfterm as I can't really declutter for them so have been doing other 'cluttery' areas in the house instead...

See you all tomorrow....

pushmepullyou · 15/10/2009 21:55

Just a quick one tonight as feeling a bit sorry for myself

Have spent all day cleaning, mirror shining, hoovering etc for DH to come home with his new glasses and spend the next hour pointing out things that are wrong with the house

To be fair he wasn't meaning to be critical of my housekeeping prowess, it was mostly stuff like 'the walls don't match in the living room', 'look at the cobwebs above the curtain rail' - yes we live in a victorian terrace in a wood. Cobweb cleaning is a daily task at this time of year.

Anyway hello to everyone and I'll be back in a better mood tomorrow

As you were...

dreamteamgirl · 15/10/2009 22:32

I have to say OM I agree with you about being amazed by those Flying with little ones- I was proud to be dressed by 4pm when Sam was small. Loathed the babystage and didnt cope at all well with it

Thanks to everyone for their kind words about him BTW, I am of course unbelievable proud of his 'Flying' and Freecycling

Havent done any missions! Too tired. Well done everyone for all you did today

MiniMarmite · 15/10/2009 22:43

Pushmepullyou - passing virtual chocolate your way . DH is probably just noticing those things because everything around them is so shiney!

Ladies, can I have your input when you have a moment...

I investigated my 'sports' drawers this evening (sadly not frequently visited since DS's arrival) and found:

  • 4 bikinis
  • 5 swimming costumes, one fits
  • 1 maternity tankini (discoloured as went through dark wash by accident)
  • 4 pairs of ski socks (worn about twice each)

Now, I hate skiing with a passion but have been a very keen swimmer (just don't get the chance at the moment). I was planning to:

  • offer socks to friends at work/charity shop
  • bin maternity tankini
  • keep all bikinis and swimsuits on the basis that I might be able to wear them when I stop having babies (we only want 2).

Does this sound right? I can't help thinking that I'm realistically 2 years away from bikini-wearing (and may never wear one again TBH) and probably the same amount of time away from smallish swimming costumes...so maybe I should just ditch the lot or most and start again later on.

Any, these are the trivia occupying my mind! Must unload dishwasher, shine my sink and go to bed. Goodnight.

MiniMarmite · 15/10/2009 22:44

That should say "Ladies, can I have your input when you have a moment please?"

positiveattitudeonly · 15/10/2009 22:59

Oh Did I hear choccies are being passed round tonight. One over this way, please!

Just arrived home from a meeting and in dire need of bed, so just flying past. Did not intend to post, but started reading and thought I would just say a couple of things. Kitchen is a mess, by the way.I will sort it in the morning!

MMM - IMO I would get rid of the bikinis. When you are able to fit back into one,you can treat yourself and feel realy good, rather than getting into one that is years old. Plus, they do not really keep well, do they and are likely to not be very wearable after a while in a draw. But that's just my opinion and as I am about a million years away from ever wearing anything remotely like that I am sure others will come and give you better advise.

OM - Totally agree about DC number 3 not having a particularly full baby book. Did a bit more for DC4, only son, just because he was the boy, but then the 5th one has a very different "life book" as she was adopted from a Russian orpahanage, so no pictures at all before 18 months old! I always say to mine that No 3 + 4 had my experience, though. Which is something the first 2 didn't have! Not sure they are convinced that it helped a lot, but I tried!!

I'm off to bed. Absolutely shattered. Rubbish day and really not looking forward to tomorrow.
Please nag me to pack and organise for me going away on Monday morning. I know I will leave it all to 7am on Monday and then forget everything I need!
One meal has made it to the freezer so far! Not as successful as I ahd planned. I am going to be cooking all weekend!!

frightstick · 15/10/2009 22:59

Had a good day today. Bought some shiny new storage boxes for my desk and am sorting out a whole hotspot in tray thing.

Even managed to hoover the play room today.

How do people manage with babies and their food/high chairs. Both DSs make such a mess when they eat I spend my entire day sweeping the floor and trying to clean the high chair (which is impossible). Am I missing some easy cheat here!

The washing I hung out yesterday is still there and is now wetter than when I hung it out .

Am out for the day tomorrow so nothing will get done.

frightstick · 15/10/2009 23:00

DS2 doesn't even have a baby book .

Must get one!

paranoiabigdestroyer · 15/10/2009 23:18

frightstick one thing that helps is avoiding BLW! and vinyl floors and cleaning up straight away - with DS1 I used to leave wiping down the high chair and never really trained DH into wiping up. This time I have really learnt my lesson. DS1 had a lovely Trip Trap high chair but it was impossible to clean properly. This time we have a cheap one from IKEA and it is so much easier to wipe down - no funny crannies for stuff to get stuck in and because it was so cheap I won't mind buying another one in a year or so if it starts to look terrible.

Minimarmite I would bin all the swimwear or just keep one cossie.

DWM and OM you have done loads today. I am wearing the cloak of shame - I have done nothing apart from the babystep - but that has been a part of my morning routine pretty much since the start of the month.

I have started to demoulderise our shower cubicle though - getting it looking really fresh is a big job though so I'm just going to a bit each day until it is done.

frightstick · 15/10/2009 23:39

I have a Mamas and Papas highchair which is the most ridiculously impractical design ever. Not only does the padded seat have holes so bits of toast and broccoli can collect underneath it, but there are gaps between the plastic bits that are impossible to get anything other than sweet potato into!

droitwichmum · 16/10/2009 06:42

Good morning all!

Last mission of the week today - DH and DS can't wait to find out what next week's zone is

PMPY I would present your DH with a feather duster and point him in the direction of the cobwebs!

DTG hope you got a good night's sleep. You sound like I did on Wednesday

MM ditch the lot. As PAO said, once you find the time to go swimming again you can treat yourself to a new one which might motivate you to go

PAO START COOKING AND PACKING

Fruitstick enjoy your day out

Paranoia I admire your bravery tackling that shower. I think you are right about doing a bit at a time.

CTGH how are you doing today?

Big waves to everyone else.

OK no more prevaricating - today's list:

Dressed
Breakfast
make lunch
washing off airer
empty DW
Bathroom floor
bathroom cupboard
DS bedroom floor
DS jumper drawer - throw out what doesn't fit
ironing
Hot spot - I'll see what has been dumped where at the end of the day
room rescue - spare room (again, I'm determined to clear that floor by the end of the weekend)
shine sink

Looks a lot. Check in later

Have a good day everyone!

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/10/2009 06:56

Morning!

Passes coffee to Droitwich and looks in awe at her whiteboard !!

baby step for Friday 16th October - catch up day thank heavens - although perhaps I should look at e-mails to see if I am missing something!

last day in Zone 3!

today's mission

PA start cooking and packing !!

Will be back to the nest later ....

OP posts:
droitwichmum · 16/10/2009 07:11

Thanks for the coffee cthg whiteboard is looking lovely- it will look even better by the end of Sunday when there is nothing left on it.

Got to run.....

paranoiabigdestroyer · 16/10/2009 08:00

Morning Everyone,

Do you think when Gordon Brown comes for lunch on MN later we should ask him if he has any good tips for a tidy house??

I like today's babystep very much. I think I might even have time for some retail therapy today. I NEED a party dress.

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/10/2009 08:16

Touché Droitwich and thank you for asking, washing nearly back on track, rest of house a little awry, but work day today so will have to catch up (again) at weekend. [Pours second cup of coffee for both of us]

Yo Fruitstick - do you have a splat mat?

Paranoid - is there room for me under that "cloak of shame"? (Not that I'm convinced you should be wearing it though - you are doing really well. Keeping up with the baby-steps and routines is GOOD.) I spent far too much time Mnsetting yesterday.

PA Hope you had a restorative night's sleep and good luck with your prep. today. Do you have to cook all w/e? Can you not leave dh and dc with ingredients and instructions, or even better, shopping list and instructions !!

MiniMarmite I think I would just keep the swimsuit that fits and get rid of the rest. Stylish people recommend buying a new swimsuit a year although I have to say I never get around to that - had a Land's End extra long tugless for past 5!! Fingers and toes crossed for you Monday morning if I forget to say it then x

Take no notice Pushme - you'll prob find out later that your yr dh's rant had nothing to do with the house ... he's probably stressed at work or something ... bit disheartening for you though. Rest assured that all of us on here are looking at your
cobwebless corners admiringly

Well done re: your productive day yesterday Optimistic - don't let Droitwich get hold of that power point technology . Wishing your ds a speedy recovery.

Waves to Snitch and Dreamteam

Well done on your list yesterday tibni - have you tried (preferably white) vinegar on your shower screen? Just bung it in a plant spray, spray and leave for 15 mins or so then rinse off with hot water. Rub dry with old clean towel. Once it's all sparkling, you can maintain with half vinegar/half water.

Right ....office hat on now .... have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
optimisticmumma · 16/10/2009 09:35

PMPY I agree with DWM either present him with his very own decobwebber or steal his new glasses!! Hope you are feeling better this am...
minimarmite throw it all away - you know you can do it! By the time you get round to wearing a bikini again you will deserve a new one!
pao pack this minute!
frightstick in the days of yore when my lot were babies I had a plastic sheet thing under the high chair to catch the bits and a plastic catcher bib otherwise I'm afraid I waited till it dried and then picked it off . I'm sure flylady would have something to say about that. I hated food mess so much that I didn't give my lot particularly messy food and it was in the days of feeding them with a spoon . I'm sure I am showing my age here so feel absolutely free to disregard and please don't think of me as an old granny type - I'm not that old honest!!

Right today...

lunch out with friend
am routine
paperwork/bills
schoolwork
wash rugby kit for DS2
buy birthday pressies
mission already done
declutter under computer table
supper???

See you all later

optimisticmumma · 16/10/2009 09:37

snitch hope you feel a bit better today.

hellsbelles · 16/10/2009 09:47

hi all,

Just checking in - babystep seems rather easy! But I'm packing for a weekend away as well so I'm glad

Sorry for brevity - tons to do. Hope all well (and snitch hope you are feeling better).

frightstick · 16/10/2009 10:42

Thanks all.

Just getting ready to go out but already have emptied dishwasher, wiped down kitchen, put washing load on and put washing away

marmite I agree, ditch them all! Then buy yourself a new one post baby. I did and feel all the better for it.

Pushme My DH is like this and if we ever get divorced, I will cite it on the forms he always finds the one thing that hasn't been done and points it out. It used to make me really angry but now I just laugh at him. This is also the case when he comes in to ask 'has DS been in front of the TV for long?'

frightstick · 16/10/2009 10:44

CTGH I have thought about a splash mat but not sure where to get one big enough - and it seems a faff as it would also have to go under DS1 (plus dining table and chairs). I think maybe I need to stop feeding DS1 rice and couscous. I'm not doing BLW but DS2 seems to have different ideas and likes a piece of whatever we are eating and then get his hands in the bowl! I actually think BLW would be less messy.

Where would one purchase said splash mat or heavy duty plastic sheeting from?

elliepac · 16/10/2009 10:57

MOrning one and all, think i am coming out the other side now. Still sniffly but feeling a lot better in myself although that could have more to do with the fact that it is Friday!

Haven't time to do a whole catch-up though must say am loving the name changes for Halloween, can't think of anything i can do with my very original name.

This weekend I am determined to get back on track and up to speed. A somewhat mammoth task but am skint so can't go anywhere so might as well sort the house out. DH has decided to do a carboot next week to try and get rid of some of the clutter (finally after years of nagging ) so we are going to spend all weekend sorting that stuff out.

Have a nice day everyone.

frazzled74 · 16/10/2009 11:00

I buy the vinyl stuff on a roll from local fabric shops to use as tablecloths, it would also work as splashmat, .My dining room floor is always full of rice and cous cous and my youngest is 3. can anyone advise me where to buy a nice message board/whiteboard or blackboard. quite a big one.
I still havent done todays or yesterdays mission but have had a 15 min declutter and finished usual daily tasks.

droitwichmum · 16/10/2009 13:22

A convert! Welcome to the whiteboard club frazzled

Mine is so old I can't remember where I got it from but you might get one from Staples or somewhere similar

Welcome back to the land of the living elliepac

frightstick I used a huge playmat for DS - the type you use when they are painting etc. I think mine came from elc

Back to work. Check in on you later
