Over here everyone!

OP posts:
MiniMarmite · 16/10/2009 14:46

Just dropping by to read tasks for the day and to report back that I have thrown away all swimming-related items bar the costume I actually use and one bikini that I couldn't bear to part with! Ski socks going too (might keep one in case of snow)! I think these might count towards the 27!

Thanks for your encouragement in the right direction

Oh, and quick update on the calendar situation, cat threw up on it (not sure how it made its way onto the floor but anyway)! Will get a new one...

Won't be on tonight as going out with the girls, hurrah! So have lovely evenings and I'll catch up with all your news tomorrow.

pink1970girl · 16/10/2009 15:27

hi flutterers, i just stuck my nose in, i have read lots of flylady stuff and feel i must start again,
any basics or tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance x
ps i have dh, home after 5 each day, dd 4 yrs 2.5 days at preschool and ds 18 months, always home!!

tibni · 16/10/2009 15:42

MiniMarmite - have a great night out.

CTGH - not tried the vinegar on shower screen. Ds (ASD and a monkey!) managed to empty all the vinegar out. My kitchen made your eyes water for weeks after so I have not yet got round to replacing it.

droitwichmum - My best friend had a whiteboard that she used to write all the jobs she expected her dh to do. My dh and I might have added a few everytime we visited! Took them ages to suss us! LOL If I had a whiteboard I know she would get revenge! LOL

Not a bad day - done all basics and decluttered a bit of dd room and the bathroom cabinet. dd just back home and has bought a mate so I guess thats 1 extra for dinner and waiting for ds taxi to arrive.

optimisticmumma · 16/10/2009 16:37

Just fluttering past with a cuppa in hand! Hi Pink and welcome...

lunch out with friend done and lovely
am routine done
paperwork/bills hmm schoolworkhmm
wash rugby kit for DS2done
buy birthday pressies done
mission already done
declutter under computer tablehmm
supper??? sausage and mash

I've decided there's a definite pattern to what I get done. I'm not very good with paper of any sort!!! eek! Also I do get distracted from the task in hand! What would flylady say!

tibni LOL about the whiteboard sabotage!
elliepac nice to 'see' you back! have missed your witty repartee (sp?)
DWM you definitely get the prize for organisation and lists of jobs done in my book!

See you all later no doubt!

positiveattitudeonly · 16/10/2009 16:39

Hi Pink1970girl - Click on babysteps from Countingthegreyhairs post this morning and you will get an idea of what we are doing. Just very small steps until they are such a routine you don't even have to think about them - in theory anyway! Then we add in a few extra bits. Just take one step at a time and come and join us!

No packing done
No cooking done!

Just had a terrible meeting, so am on here before I explode, to try and calm myself down!

I can't remember who suggested this morning that I allow DH to cook! (CTGH or OM I think). I went away for one day earlier in the year. I cooked bolognese before I left and left it in the slow cooker. I filled a pan with water. I put fresh spaghetti beside the pan and told DH all he needed to do was boil the pan and add spaghetti for 3 mins. What could be simpler??? I telephoned at about 7pm to ask how tea had gone - only to be told that the kids had loved their pizza and pasta and they were all still at Pizza hut! When questioned DH admitted he didn't know what to do, so going out was easier!!! Not quite Jamie Oliver! As DH would say, his talents lie elsewhere, we just need to find out where elsewhere is!!

Oh look, Halloween smilies, What fun!

Right must stop wasting time and go and actually do something constructive!
Will try to catch up with everyone later.

Whoever was poorly, hope you are better.
Whoever is better, pleased for you.
To who ever threw the bikini's away - well done! OM hope DS foot isn't too painful,
Sorry, really bad memory for names! Will try to redeem myself later on here.

elliepac · 16/10/2009 16:49

Why thank you very much OM (spelling perfectly acceptable, gold star and straight to the top of the class for you my dear ) I also agree with you as far as DWM is concerned. You, my dear, are putting the rest of us to shame.

tibni whiteboard incident made me smile

pink a mahoosive welcome. As far as tips are concerned, don't listen to what i do because i is rubbish. Have you done flying before? If so you may not need babysteps, if not i suggest you start with babysteps.CTGH our esteemed leader posts them daily but if you want to see what they are follow this link
www.flylady.net/pages/begin_babysteps.asp

MM oooh have a great night with the girls. I decided to forgo my usual exciting and riotous friday night out and, for a change, stay in, put the kids to bed and watch some tv.. Might partake of some wine though as have been too ill to have any so have some catching up to do.

Anyway off to pick up the monsters children. Back later.

pink1970girl · 16/10/2009 20:27

thanks to everyone for their replies, i am intreaged(?sp)by one flutterer, sorry brain not working with remembering names, you have an electronic control journal, would you mind sharing how you do it, please?
thanks again
will be joining starting tomorrow x

dreamteamgirl · 16/10/2009 20:38

Hi all!!
Hope we are all doing well- I am slightly less exhausted today but stil going to bed early tonight!!

Loving the hallowe'en smilies

Havent done mission today or yesterday- RUBBISH LOL

Will get onto it over weekend maybe

havingagiraffe · 16/10/2009 21:31

Yay halloween smileys !!!

No real flying happened today but wanted to celebrate the .

Actually did my bedtime routine properly last night, thought I was doing but looked in my control journal and it was slightly different

Haven't had chance to read all but gathered that we have a new flyer - welcome pink

.....Wanders off to think of halloween name.......

droitwichmum · 16/10/2009 21:47

Welcome aboard pink! I don't have an electronic control journal, but I do have my white board - see previous thread; others are rather scared of it

We haven't had a quote since the 'Camus incident' so... as I found a book (v small) of them in my infamous spare room (still working on clearing the floor- I'll probably find a yeti in there at this rate), here goes...

'Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible'. Thought Francis of Assissi must have met the fat fairy.

Off to do the ironing. Back with wine in a bit

droitwichmum · 16/10/2009 22:05

Ironing done so popping the corks now

dreamteamgirl · 16/10/2009 22:41

Pink welcome aboard- just reread thead

It was me that was emailing my control journal if that is what you wwere thinking ok?

DWM that quote is absolutely 100% perfect for us isnt it?
Who would have thought before we started following the advice of a gushing American who styles herself as a fat fairy that our homes would be able to have people visit with 15 minutes notice or even NO notice!! As in 'oh yes do come in!' . Even my mum!! Amazing really!

pink1970girl · 16/10/2009 22:44

oh yes please dreamteamgirl, i could do with a bit of a guide, thanks x

droitwichmum · 16/10/2009 22:49

DTG it was the most inspirational one I spotted without being gushing

That halloween grin looks really good - or is it just me?

nightmareteamgirl · 16/10/2009 23:55

DWM I know, I am loving 's
they look so evil LOL

pink email me jules _ ashford @ Yahoo. com
Happy to share

Just came across this FABULOUS quote which sums up my life so well!!

"Much of stress that people feel doesn't come from having too much to do. It comes from not finishing what they've started. " ? David Allen
hmm that'll be me all over then ..

Countingthegreyghouls · 17/10/2009 00:00

Evening all

Hope you all had a good day.

Cheers Droitwich [glug] That St F of A quote could not be more apt! I'll remember it next time I have that overwhelmed "but everything is urgent" feeling ... [pours another glass]

Um, fortified by 13% alcohol, I have a confession to make ... I was in an office supply shop earlier today buying labels for the computer, and guess what I found myself eyeing up furtively???

lol at "Camus incident" !!

Waves to HavingaG and Dreamteam (will be catching up myself over the w/e) and "yo" to Optimistic! (I have terrible paperwork "blockage" too - both mental and literal)

A warm welcome to Pink - you will find that everyone is very maniacal and obsessive about scrubbing lavatory bowls friendly on this thread!

Apologies in advance if you know all this already, but just in case: the idea behind the Flylady system is that it helps us to establish certain household routines that we learn to do in a very focused and concentrated way (often no more than 15 mins at a time - so ideal for you with very young dc) more or less every single day, hopefully leaving us free to do many more interesting things with the rest of our time... Don't let the cutesy barftastic language of the Flylady website put you off - the underlying principles behind the system are sound.

As others have already said, a good way to start is with the daily baby-steps. Once we are doing those more or less automatically, we graduate to daily baby-step + decluttering for 15 mins, and once decluttered (you can't clean clutter) we graduate to maintenance of baby-steps + detailed zone cleaning and daily missions. It's not as difficult as I have managed to make it sound Just jump in where we are at and it will all become clear. I have a feeling the baby-steps may be repeated next month anyway! Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions.

Oh and btw, I think you may have been referrring to our oracle's (Dreamteam) on-line control journal which she has very kindly been sharing with others here. See previous October Fledgling Flyers thread for details.

Glad you are feeling back on form Elliepac - we missed you!

Sorry things didn't go so well at the meeting PA disappointed for you. [Hands over glass of red.] Try not to exhaust yourself cooking this weekend - you have enough on your plate (no pun intended!)Could you possibly leave dh & dc directions to the local chip shop/Tesco ready-meal counter instead??

Am very of your night out Mini-marmite - hope you have a good 'un. Perhaps your cat is trying to sabotage your future travel plans?

Frazzled I think Ikea do some fairly nice white and black boards ... sometimes in the dc section

Frightstick - agree not worth it unless you buy splashmat just small enough to fit under high chair - otherwise too much hassle - I think I used a small sq vinyl tablecloth which was easy to pick up and wipe down.

Have a lovely weekend Hellesbelles!!

Will post baby-steps for weekend ahead next if you don't mind (we don't zone clean or do missions at weekends Pink in case you were wondering) as want to get a cracking start tomorrow and need to catch up !

G'night all!

Have a good weekend everyone ....

Countingthegreyghouls · 17/10/2009 00:08

Baby-step for Saturday 17th October ... er, I'm saying nothing Blush

Baby-step for Sunday 18th October ... with regard to no.s 10 & 11 - feel free to scowl and groan instead

Will be back on Monday morning if not before (and if the "Sneak Peak for the Week Ahead" appears on the Flylady home page before then, would one of you lovely fledglings please post here - thank you)!!

Countingthegreyghouls · 17/10/2009 00:14

x posts nightmare - pink - and droitwich Nightmare - I have David Allen's book "Ready for Anything" - do you have it too? ('Tis brilliant.)

I must have the world's largest collection of "how to streamline/declutter/manage your life" books, a fact which makes dh cackle because they are currently - you guessed it -in a huge sprawling pile cluttering up our bedroom floor

David Allen's is by far the best though!

Off to roost now.

G'night.

nightmareteamgirl · 17/10/2009 00:33

CTGH I dont have it- it just came up on a random quote of the day on a freinds FB age so I nicked it. I dont have any books- feel jealous. Apart fromDave Allen & Sink reflections, do you reccomend any?

Not sure if I like my hallowe'en nickname or not yet, as it stops me being DTG ... I guess I could be NTG instead for a bit I spose or shpoudl I say

pink1970girl · 17/10/2009 08:45

morning all, thanks again you lovely ladies for your messages,
think i might have to get a look at the David Allen stuff, it might make a welcome addition to my ever increasing (dusty) pile of bkooks, anyone the same, Sink reflections, Sidetracked Home Executives, How clean is your house?, Kim and Aggie's cleaning bible, house doctor...
I think i am hoping that all these lovely books will jump off the shelf and magically fix my house
anyway, enough jabbering, i am def. jumping in today, will start a baby step and def. need to do 15mins declutter. I usually do a couple of hours declutter and end up with a huge box of "stuff" for ebay/freecycle/charity which sits in the utility forever, plus i would be exhausted
Is it just me and CTGH or are office supply stores the best ever? All that lovely paper and pens yummy
speak later all
xxx flutters awayxxx

elliepac · 17/10/2009 09:12

Morning all,

Today, i am not on a mere room rescue, i am on an all out house rescue, especially since my dear mother has just phoned me to announce she will be dropping in for a coffee this afternoon .

I know it's all about babysteps but being able to offer her a place to sit (without squishing a toy) and a cuppa (in a clean cup) means emergency flying is necessary. I addition am not sure she would appreciate naked children so had better do some washing .

Today's list looks like this:-

Panic done
Tidy all downstairs
Washing x gazillion started
Bathroom swish and swipe
Tesco

pink good luck with the jumping in. I never get to an office supply store but i do adoringly stroke the pages of the supplies catalogue at work and get ridiculously over protective over my new felt pens

DWM love that quote, far easier to understand than the 'camus incident' early in the morning (sorry CTGH) DTG or should that be NTG (make your mind up woman ) I think that quote should be my epitaph

MM hope you're not suffering too much this morning

PA sorry you had a crappy day yesterday, hope today is a lot more relaxing

And a big wave to frightstick, OM, havingagiraffe, hellesbelles and frazzled.

Still can't think of a halloween name, will work on it this morning, far more important than housework !

FullMooniMarmite · 17/10/2009 11:12

Morning All

Had a great night out thank you. Got home rather too late for a 'lady in my condition' and was totally unsucessful in hiding my water drinking from my drunken friends! Then DS woke up 3 times (unusual for him) and DH hadn't shined the kitchen sink and i was tired and grumpy. Let that all be a lesson to me for going out . I have re-shined sink and now feeling much calmer!

Elliepac I loved the panic on your to do list. DH always says that I clean much more frantically when my Mum is visiting compared to other visitors! Hope it all goes well .

CTGH in stationary shop, my guess would be whiteboards!

Pink welcome to the fledgling flyers, never has housework been more fun .

Thanks for the great quote DWM

Lots of others I wanted to say things to but I've lost track of who did what so - LOL at 'camus incident' and I am also paperworkily challenged.

Mentioned 'the fat fairy says we must do x' to DH who immediately developed a concerned look on his face so I quickly changed the subject.

Right, must go and tackle the mountain of washing that seems to have developed...I've been doing the washing, drying the washing and then putting it a basket...and then leaving it there!

Countingthegreyghouls · 17/10/2009 11:20

Harrumph, harrumph

All I have to say is,

"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower"

So there! [Waves microfibre cloth in defiant manner]

Back later ....

elliepac · 17/10/2009 12:47

CTGH this is especially for you:-

?But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he
leads??

droitwichmum · 17/10/2009 13:06

Hello everyone!

Had my lie in this morning, got washing on (2nd load), taken DS to swimming lesson, written my white board for the weekend and ready to go.

Back in a mo - just thought of a halloween name....
