Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

If you are doing the babysteps then yup, it'sjust whine the sink today. BUT ther is a whole ritual to it! I soak mine for an hour toothbrush 'round the taps, knife round the plug hole, de-limescale the 'opening'(?) of the tap etc. etc., then clean and shine. Is it shoes tomorrow? I cannot remember the baysteos and too lazy pressed to check the site

Ha, sounds about right here, whining rather than shining but of course I meant shine the sink

really wound up - JUST CLEAN YOUR SINK!! it really is that simple. baby steps is just what it says. tiny, simple things we can all attempt to keep doing. You add something each day to the routine. My favourite day of the month was the 15 minute sit down with feet up and a cuppa! I even managed longer than 15 minutes on that day!

Just come along for the ride and see how you go. The dust police don't come round to the house and inspect, don't worry!

Hi to all you with shiney smiling sinks. Its so exciting to have so many people along this month. No more talking to myself if CTGH cant post.

Am I too late to join? I need something to kick me in the right direction now I has less time and more demands. I need to be more organised.

Helloooooo I have been recruited by BennyandJoon!

My sink is far from shiny as I can't even reach it at the moment but it will be twinkling by the end of today

Hello, I am new to Mumsnet and would love to join in!

I felt terrible yesterday as I had a conversation with a neighbour on the doorstep for over half an hour without inviting her in - I just couldn't as my house was so messy. When I shut the door I made a promise to myself that I would never let myself be in that position again - at least the hall, living room and kitchen should always be presentable(ish).

So, I will give this fly-lady business a good go!

Thanks.

I need to join. My house is a tip and with DS1 starting school next week we'll be around a lot more to make more mess (school finishing at 3.45 as opposed to nursery finishing at 6). Am off to shine sink!

I am going to soak my sink in vinegar or lemon juice now. It is limescaley and horid (I miss the lovely north-west water, hate this southern stuff). Will report back later, hopefully needing dark glasses

Am I too late to join in? I've often looked at the Fly threads and wondered what it was about.

Each room is progressively disappearing under all this clutter, I have been looking forward to the dcs going back to school so I can have a good sort out of their toys- roll on thursday!

So today I have to shine my sink? I can manage that, will do it after tea

Report
walkthedinosaur · 01/09/2009 16:40

Have realised it's more than shining the sink, it's making sure the dishwasher is emptied so that the dishes in the sink can go into it. But have achieved it (for today).

Lol walkthedinosaur

Well done

No dishwasher here, well apart from me that is!

Hello to all the latest recruits!

How is everyone getting on?

Welcome to Mumsnet Shopping Veggie. I am very familiar with that scenario . Flylady describes it as CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) Don't worry - we will get there.

Never too late Ninja. McDreamy, I will give BennyandJoon her 10% soon!! Hello Sylar - welcome all.

Yes - ALL we have to do today is shine our sink and we must try and resist any attempt at perfectionism. Just get it clear of washing up and give it a bit of a scrub.

There is even a film on the flylady website that describes/explains how to do it but I must confess the thought of watching it makes me cackle.

As PA says - just do one baby step per day (and some of them involve reading a few tips or writing down what you have already done). Don't worry - the overall regime is eminently realistic and has a few in-built 'catch up' days.

[PA wd it please be OK if we continue with August system of you posting that day's baby-step if I haven't posted it by 8.30-ish UK time? Should be no prob for me now work/school started but just in case .... Tues sometimes a bit difficult as have earlier start that day. Yes, brill to have so many others to help whip us into shape!!]

Early one morning you achieved more by 12 noon then I have done all day Hats off!

Right will tackle the kitchen sink when I head down that direction. I am currently soaking the bathroom sink as that was annoying me. Its going to make the rest of bathroom look yucky isnt it. Oh well that'll movtivate me to do that room later. Tis no bad thing as we used the bath to wash this summer's plant pots so it needs it really.

Thanks for the welcomes

I have lurked for a while on mumsnet and Bad Mothers Club (am I allowed to say that?) but never posted as I am worried I will spend all day on the PC. It was this thread that swung it for me, and now with a shiny sink, I feel I can have a cuppa and catch up with what everyone else has done.

Like the CHAOS acronym and I feel better already knowing that someone has actually named the condition!

So, I will make sure I go to bed with my sink looking as it does now, and with the dishwasher either on, or emptied (so many times I come down in the morning to find I forgot to switch it on!)

NinjaRain · 01/09/2009 17:58

i do that with the washing machine - you have to push start twice. the number of times i come back and its on standby

Shoppingveggie · 01/09/2009 18:09

NinjaRain - I am OK as I have only to press mine once, its the remembering to take the washing out! Another one of my resolutions is not to waste water and electricity on washing/rinsing clothes that haven't even seen the outside of the washing machine

Congrats on all those shiny sinks!!

My hoover and I had a bonding session that was well overdue today aswell. (well chuffed) AND it behaved and did not spew its contents all over the carpet, as it has a habit of doing - probably something to do with the amount of dust and hairs I try to get it to suck up in one go

CTGH - yes I wil post if you haven't by the time I get into work on the computer in the morning. I haven't got a boss at the moment as we are waiting for a new one, so I have plenty a little time to check on any, so very important messages! DS still is trouser less for school. Panic is setting in!! Perhaps my dreams of naturism were a sign!! Oh no!!! Hope DD got on alright today.
Speak soon.

Looking forward to seeing what the twee fly lady has in store for tomorrow.

[Digression alert. Thanks PA. And thanks for so kindly remembering about dd's first day. She came home in a less than happy mood as she is the only one in the class sitting on her own . The others are paired up. Still, it is only day one and she is still tired from holidays so hoping for a better day tomorrow. Good luck on the continuing trouser hunt.]

Congratulations on all the tap polishing everyone!

Yes - small bites is the way Earlyonemorning -

Take it steady everyone .....

BTW if anyone doesn't want to engage too closely with the Flylady website, the book is available through Amazon and it is reasonably succinct:

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Flylady&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

It is called "Sink Reflections"

Well it's not perfect, but it is shiny . There is still a bit of limescale, it is SO hard to shift- I've tried the wrapping vineger soaked kitchen roll around it over night, and it still doesn't budge! Is distilled vinegar the same as white vinegar?

Hope your dd has a better day tomorrow Ctgh

Could get the kitchen sink completely shiney -it needs bleach (which sets my asthma off) so mum will bleach it for me tomo and i have a super shiney bathroom sink. Several clean mirrors, laundry done, folded, ironing done and away. I have even move half the boxes in the loft so that the shower can be rewired into the fuse box at the end of the week. School uniform labelling tonight, and if i feel brave enough paperwork filing
