Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

Dreamteam, I'm after your control journal too.

I'm finding the morning routine is really falling into place now but the decluttering is not going well. Spent all day today rearranging 6 boxes worth of stuff into 6 different boxes. But it is all neatly organised and labelled now instead of thrown in together.

The house we're moving to is smaller so I'm hoping that this is going to stand me in good stead POA you have made me even more depressed about not having a proper home.

I have become a little obsessive about the 5 minute clear up. Even DS1 (3.5) was getting quite excited about tidy up time tonight

Happy Birthday Tibni - hope you had a lovely day.

must go to bed now - lay out clothes, shine sink etc.

fruitstick - I don't want to depress anyone! Just think, smaller house, less to clean.

Mornin' one and all - a general hello to everyone today - except for EarlyOneMorning (sorry I think I forgot you yesterday) and Happy Anniversary

MiniMarmite - sorry - I only just registered that you are pregnant - many, many congratulations!!

Just checking in

Hope everyone is recovering/OK today.

Thanks for the kind comments guys - much appreciated - but to say I feel a bit of a fraud is putting it mildly.

If it's any consolation to anyone out their struggling - just come and take a look at my master bedroom and office... I have to vault backwards over the laundry paniers/cardboard boxes/piles of books to get to the bathroom ... it cannot go on!!

But, in the spirit of PA's advice, we have all been able to walk across the sitting floor unimpeded every day since end August , my kitchen sink is positively glistening and my feet are a darn sight less gnarled and 'orrible since I have started wearing shoes every day [sorry if you are still eating breakfast]

I don't normally post lists but I need motivation today (day off work and I feel like sleeping):
morning routine done
tidy bathroom and master bedroom and general tidy around house
shoe polishing
2 phone calls
2 hours admin (including dividing house into zones) and sorting out basic weekly routine
food shopping
prepare supper
2 loads laundry
local errands
um, a pampering thingy if I get time (does buying a packet of hair dye count??)

Onwards and upwards everyone!!

Hello everyone, to try and motivate me I am also going to put my list here - and as you know I need the motivation

My Mum is coming over about 11am, so I want all this done by then:

Finish cup of tea (very important)
Put a wash on
Empty dishwasher
Tidy kitchen
Clear living room table (what a mess!)
Clear dining room talbe (makes living room table look tidy
Hoover downstairs
Put grocery shop away (when it arrives)

That's all - drank cuppa, that's one thing crossed off!

Morning ladies

dreamteamgirl please could I have a copy of your journal too. I can't send emails, my stupid computer is playing up, but hey it still lets me on mn! My email is [email protected] I'd really appreciate it to help keep on track.

I hope you get to have your pampering time ctgh, good luck with your list today.

My morning started with another wet bed from ds, luckily I had remembered to put the mattress protector on, so his bedding is now out on the line and load 2 is in the WM.

Really must wash the floor at some point today and the sink is not shining quite so brightly as it was.

Still haven't tackled the cupboard under the stairs yet, I will make that my task for tomorrow.

Morning all

Have discovered I can do things for half an hour today, so that's an improvement!

Happy birthday/anniversary wishes etc to everyone on the thread - sorry to have missed you all - so what's new!

The importance of a control journal has come home to me bigtime today as I cannot for the life of me find a number for someone I really need to contact before tomorrow. Also found some paperwork to do with endowment compensation that is 18 mths out of date(luckily we are not too late!) Finally DS1 doublebooked driving lesson with going to see Michael MacIntyre at the O2 because he didn't use house diary and nor did I!!!

On a positive note - I feel pleased that I have largely managed to complete the babysteps and it has had a major impact on my house! I just have to keep the impatience at bay...

Dreamteamgirl can I also ask you for your journal?

Have a good day everyone. Going back to bed now...

Thank you dreamteamgirl for the Control Journal it's an inspiration, and has certainly put me in the right direction. I only hope to be as organised as you some day.

I am very excited today because tomorrow a man is coming to build me an under stairs cupboard and then I can clear out my utility room and have some order in there. I am a very sad person who now gets excited about cleaning out the crap from the cupboard in the utility room, but you never know what I could find, there might be treasure in there - some stuff has been there that long it could definitely be an antique!

I have big plans now, then we can stick a shower and sink in the utility room and sort out the downstairs toilet. Have you ever seen that episode of Malcom in the Middle where they uncover a downstairs toilet underneath loads of junk and boxes, well that is exactly what mine's like, so hopefully be the weekend everything will be sorted

Dreamteamgirl, could I have your control journal too?

I've decided there's no point starting one just yet - it would be one more thing to move, and routines, numbers etc will all be different when we've moved anyway. But once we're in I want to get properly organised and on top of things!

Report
tibni · 29/09/2009 16:32

Thank you for the birthday wishes.

I had a lovely day - no flying at all.

Had friends over all day today as well as having my hair cut so not done too much today either but have managed the swish and swipe and a couple of loads of washing.

Had my new furniture for the sitting room delivered today. Coffee table, tv unit and lamp table - all with drawers so I have extra storage space which I must try not to allow to gather junk!

I got the organised mum life book as a pressie and have started using it. No control journal here yet but I am thinking of getting some type of christmas book where I can keep a list of what I have purchased then wrap and hide them! Well thats the idea anyway!

Speaking of which

Flap your wings and reward yourselves with a juicy worm, we've reached the end of the baby-steps for September.

You've done brilliantly everyone and the professionals on the other thread have given us their blessing and sends loads of encouragment!!

Two steps in one tomorrow so we synchronise with the month of October:

www.flylady.net/pages/bbd30.asp

www.flylady.net/pages/bbd31.asp

I am going to risk breaking the rules and use a direct quote from Flylady in addition to the last link as it is important to those who are still not entirely clear in our minds about the routines and systems to follow:

"Don?t get bogged down by wanting to know everything about our system. As your clutter goes away you will find that you will have time to do the zone detailed cleaning, weekly home blessing hour and some of the fun things we do in our email and on the website. You don?t have to see the top of the staircase to take the first step or the 30th step; you just need to keep FLYing!"

Well done everyone!!

Thanks for the CJ Dreamteamgirl it's much easier to have one to adapt rather than starting from scratch!

Am hoping (much to my DCs horror - why do YOU need one etc etc, umm because I can )of getting an iphone when my current contract ends. Can see that it could be useful for a paperless Control Journal. Someone on here ( can't be bothered to look back)seemed to suggest they were going to do stuff electronically...Does anyone have one? Are they all they're cracked up to be and could I be a supersonic flyer with one???

Despite feeling C**P I am proud to report that:

my sinks are shiny (although hair definitely not fixed and only partly dressed
dinner organised
2xlots of washing done
DW unloaded
nasty spots on lounge rug got rid of
nasty soap dispenser in WM cleaned
tesco delivery delivered

Hope to do a bit more tomorrow...

Well, sucked at FLYing today but did gets lots done - even some decluttering. House is tidy but am giving myself a bit of leeway as we have swapped bedrooms with DS to make room for DD's arrival in Dec and upstairs is all in a state of disarray while things find new homes.

Could do with strating again in October I think. Was doing so well up until about day 18!

evening all,

haven't managed to achieve much today apart from maintain the status quo so to speak. DS(6) was up between 3 and 5 last night with an upset tummy, so i had to clean him up and ending up sleeping downstairs with him (he had sofa i got armchair...how does that work he's tiny and i'm..well not tiny?.) Alarm went off but turned it off and drifted back to sleep which meant i was then late for work. Consequently am shattered now so am not even going to take off today, am going to have a bath and watch holby city.

dreamteam i knew there was a reason you are my idol that control journal is a masterpiece, thank you so much, am going to adapt and use.

goldensnitch and minimarmite had not even twigged you two are pregnant..how dumb am I? Congratulations.

Am quite excited about graduating from babysteps, oh how my life has changed, i used to get excited about my social life.

Everyone is doing so well even those that say they aren't flying sound as if they are to me.

Tibni Glad you had a lovely birthday, I want to know how that life diary goes as I checked them out when you mentioned it and I want one

OM Get the i-phone if only to upset your DS, I imagine he is horrified. Love that you are using flying as a reason to indulge.

I'm slowly getting back on track after a few chaotic days and my list for today will follow as still feel I haven't done much and need to make myself feel better.

PA Great idea to make us all feel positive (that is your job surely?) I am really happy that a 5 min room rescue really does only take 5 minutes and my I don't have palpatations when my brother comes round (he once said my house was "scruffy")

Today I have

Swished and swiped
Made bed
Shined sink (twice)
DW loaded and on
Cleaned kitchen including floor
Pumped milk (it is definitely a chore)
Made dinner and cleared away

All this and DP not home at all today or this evening so did bath and bed for DS and kept him occupied ALL day. (Apart from a bit of Waybuloo )

Now about to finish the ironing I started last night as it's nearly ALL done.

Sounds like everyone has had a productive day

I have failed to mop the floor, running around getting dd1 to brownies this evening has worn me out and I haven't eaten yet.

Thankyou for the control journal dreamteamgirl, looking forward to adapting it and it keeping me organised!

Glad you had a good birthday tibni

Hope your ds is feeling better elliepac

I definately need the first of those 2 steps! I turned the calender over earlier to write something on next month and realised it's my nephews birthday on thursday. Will have to go out and got a card tomorrow and cross my fingers it gets there in time!

Blissa Blame the postal strike!!

Hi to everyone, thanks for the CJ DTG.

Glad there is a little improvement in the pig flu OM.

I amazed myself today and had a fit of the flying at work and ended up rearranging my whole office! Moved furniture around and sorted out lots of junk that I had inherited with the job. Looking sparkling now, but hey, got to catch up on all the work I should have done today when I was lumping the computer around and getting tangled in all the wires!

I was even brave enough to glance from afar at the other thread just now! Professional, or what??? I have decided that I am flying a micro-lite, compared to their jumbo jets! A long way to go!! But i am happy with my little micro now, so will not be !

HAve a good evening all.

Well I have done very little flying today as am all in a lather.

Our landlord gave us notice 6 weeks ago and we are due to move next Friday. I asked him when he would like to collect the keys and he mentioned in passing that he doesn't need the house back after all and we can stay if we want to.

Obviously we do as it is so much hassle to move (and we haven't yet signed up for our new rental) but I had mentally prepared for the move, decluttered, measured where all the furniture was going to go, explained to DS etc. and now I feel a little bereft. I'm a bit like a very large ship (Titanic mostly) that takes an awfully long time to turn round.

I'm also furious that I've wasted so much time viewing other properties, phoning agents, sorting references etc for no reason at all, but at least the house got a good declutter in the meantime

So sink is definitely not shining and I have a very large glass of wine but tomorrow is another day.

Report
optimisticmumma · 29/09/2009 23:04

Fruitstick how annoying for you! Thank God you hadn't signed the new agreement but is he allowed to just give you notice and then just withdraw it? - sorry I'm just gobsmacked on your behalf and am obviously useless at anything to do with tenant's rights etc.
Have you actually spent any money on this potential move? (other than phone bill of course)
I now feel furious on your behalf!!
Never mind the flying...
