Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

Well, not done much as ended up going for a coffee at a school mum's house after drop off this morning, said I would leave at 9:30 and only just got back!

I have though emptied the dishwasher and wiped round the sink before I allowed myself on here.

Oh, and I did get showered and dressed before coming downstairs - I can't do this lace up shoes business, so like a lot of us I had my fluffy slippers on.

It was our first day back to school today and I did have a calm morning as I did make sure uniforms were laid out for the boys and that all sandwiches were made before I went to bed last night. That makes such a difference to me, so one of my own little baby steps is to make sure lunches are prepared when boys are having their tea.

Oh, and another thing, knowing what is for tea the next day too - I think I should look at the menu planner...... (saves doing the washing

Well I'm back which is a start! Kitchen in a reasonable state sink still shiny! School uniform day today. Must start on laundry too! Will report back later. Well done everyone some of you sound very organised and motivated. I'm trying not to do too much and concentrate on baby steps as in the past too much too soon hasn't worked - that's why I'm here after all!!

Hi everyone - back again

I have had a look at the menu planners, I really wish I had found this site sooner (my boys are 7 and 9) some of the dishes look fab - going to try the cheat chicken and leek pie this week.

I agree with you McD about not doing too much too soon - I am and all or nothing type and that is what gets me into the state I get in, so I really do need to get into the habit of doing a little everyday rather than nothing for 3 weeks!

I am going to go and de-clutter my bedroom, I have family staying on Thursday night and the spare room is full of stuff to go to a car boot or to ebay, so need to clear my room so I can put all that stuff in there whilst family are staying. Then I will make sure I do a car boot/ebay

Reading through the thread everyone seems to be doing really well - like the misson statement LBAM, I really do need to adopt that too

Am looking at my cluttered sink and flipflops and wondering if it's too late to join? Always wondered what the 'fly' thing was. If I clean my sinks, put shoes on ready for tomorrow's step is that OK??

McDreamy · 02/09/2009 14:54

Ok so sink not so shiny at the moment BUT it's not too bad and for this time of day that's good for me!!!

DD2's dinner has been cooked (she is on purees). DD1 and DS1's chicken has defrosted for dinner tonight.

The rest of the house is a bit of a state but I do feel like I've made a bit of progress and more importantly have the right attitude (at the moment).

Must spend the rest of the day sorting out school uniform as I am determined tomorrow morning will go smoothly.

Ooooh no couldn't have anyone over at the moment, kitchen acceptable (but lots of laundry piled in the utility bit) hall hoovered and holiday bags taken upstairs but lounge in desperate need of hoovering! Maybe I should get off here and just do it

Cleaned the bathroom fully today as we got a new storage thingy , and the kitchen and living room were totally cleaned last night. DH is working tonight so will reshine sink then pop open the wine to celebrate

Well this morning started with the words that i always dread. Q is coming here at 10am. We need to tidy the lounge tidy - it was more of a discovering mission. But discovered it was and although it is not perfect it is now presentable enough to invite people into it. More work needs to be done but it was done before i even got dressed due to priority of task. Sink has been shiney but tea is in mid flow so will need to be returned when finished. The uniform got ignored last night so that i my need job when tea and cake dealt with. kitchen will be a much easier task considering it was tamed yesterday and this morning. Need to tackle my bedroom tonight if i can must some energy. I am feeling drained today. But it is nice to have bits of the house that resemble a house rather then a disaster zone.

Well, I've spent more than 5 hours out of the house doing favours for friends and visiting new babies but now I need to get on...

So far I have..
Gotten me and DS dressed, cleaned and fed (breakfast and lunch)
Kept the kitchen worktops clear and clean
Emptied the dishwasher and begun refilling
Handwashed non-dishwashable knives
Put on a load of washing
Made my bed (twice - did it once, then DS bounced on it!)
Tidied DS's room - which he then immediately messed up!
Tidied dressing room (box room with wardrobes in which will soon be DD's room)
Folded and put away clean towels.
and
Kept sink shiney at all times

Now got to ...
Make dinner for all
Put up 2nd blind
Get clean washing in the tumble dryer (it's raining here)
Feed rabbits
Tidy Lounge
and I'd like to dust and clean mirrors in my bedroom and the dressing room too - and vacuum if I have time...
And maybe tackle some of the ironing!

right - best get on with it!

Well. Sink somewhat shiney.

Cleaned hob.
Unloaded dishwasher
Went to IKEA

IKEA was good - DD just turned 3 so she went to the play centre bit for 45 minutes while I rushed round - bliss

Kids pizza in the oven for their early dinner. I am hoping to trick them into an early night

Welcome to OM, fancy "seeing" you here!

I only had one mission for today and that was the school uniform, which I had to prioritise over the housework. Well, failed yet again, as by the time we got there it was closed (stupid shop!!! )So back to square one and try again tomorrow. Still not seen the bottom of the wash bins. Maybe have a go this evening. (If I write maybe, then I don't feel so guilty when I fail! )
Sink still shiny, but kitchen worktops do need cleaning.
Slippers still feeling cosy!!

I would have come to Ikea with you Benny! Spent the day waiting for DHE workman still gave me plenty of time to do housework

Hi all, I'm a bit confused by this thread but am thinking that it's about having a household task to complete each day, in order to have a tidier home/life. Is that about it? And is is too late to join? DS1 is back to school tomorrow, DS2 to pre-school tomorrow for 3 mornings a week, so I'll be down to one baby and my job-from-home and could do with getting some structure to my days!

ps I already get up and get dressed first thing, but my shoes are flip flops right up until the point at which my toes go blue with cold. Does this automatically make me a slattern with no chance of ever being a Flybaby?

BennyAndJoon · 02/09/2009 16:55

Oh McD - did they turn up in the end? They are fitting new carpets for me on Wednesday next week, so I am treating that as a prompt to tidy out my cluttered shelving.

BC - it is a thirty day program that I see as getting some good habits firmy rooted into your day. Not too late to join

Right- downstairs is hoovered (although it doesn't look like it now after the dcs had popcorn and a film!), washing is dried and put away, uniform is labelled, PE kits are ready and dcs tea is on. Floors have not been washed, I'll leave that for tomorrow.

DD1 is sat at the table writing up her diary to take in tomorrow.

Bad luck you couldn't get the trousers sorted PA, when do yours go back?

That's about right BaronConker, Countingthegreyhairs will post each days task and then we're all here to give eachother a kick up the bum encourage eachother.

Don't worry about the shoes, it seems most of us prefer fluffy slippers instead

McDreamy · 02/09/2009 17:10

Yes he's just gone - it was an am appt

I STILL have the uniform to label but figure I'll sort that once the DC's are in bed as DD2 is currently losing it and needs a bath and bed. DD1 and DS1's tea is on - and it's healthy and I have a baked pot in the oven for later (DH away for 2 nights )

Hi all. Thanks for welcome, Positive !
Well - I now have 2 v. shiney sinks.
I have:
bought 2 sets of rugby boots/studs/mouthguards.
1x6th form tie
2x sets of 'stuff' from Smiths
2x boys hair cuts
wrapped DS1 birthday pressies
baking birthday cake
hung out washing where it is getting wet as I speak!
emptied/reloaded dishwasher
managed to get DS2 and DD to tidy rooms and get stuff ready for school.

Labels have now been replaced with sharpie pen!
Getting the hang of this!! I didn't think I'd done anything today!

Am refusing the lace up shoes . Are flipflops regarded as 'professional' ???

BennyAndJoon · 02/09/2009 18:10

on the shoe front... I have crocs - so I think the rest of you should be fine

Hi everyone

I have done lunches for tomorrow, cleared the kitchen and the boys are having some time on the wii before showers - this is a miracle for me - usually the kitchen isn't cleared till just before I go to bed.

Didn't get round to doing much more upstairs, will have to work really hard tomorrow as they are due here at 4pm (hmm)

Hope you are all pleased with what you have done today - I am going to crack on in the morning and aim to sit down with a cuppa at 2pm for my mumsnet fix (grin)

Well done everyone! You've been really productive ...

A warm welcome to yet more newcomers and a special hello if you have just joined Mumsnet.

McDreamy has it right .. we have to go steady and avoid a stop-start approach. Speaking personally, it took many years for my house to get in to this state, and it is going to take at least two to sort it out. We tried accelerated Flying last month and we seem to have dropped the accelerated bit because real life has a habit of getting in the way. So we are just doing one step at the time.

Speaking of which, here is tomorrow's step

Step 3 for Thursday 3rd September

Would you prefer it if I post the steps the night before or in the morning?
