Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

Mini-marmite Are you sure you need our help and it's not the other way round?

I've been so busy the last few days as I did a coffee morning for Macmillan yesterday and so lots of baking and stuff. It was also my birthday yesterday so hung up my 'flying' wings for the last few days and this morning I could hardly remember what I was supposed to be doing and didn't know where to start!

I have been able to lurk as you can do that while rocking pram, expressing milk, holding baby etc etc etc!!

Am very proud and impressed by how you are all doing and slightly relived that there are still some who would be sent to fly lady's naughty corner (or told to give yourself a hug (blergh emoticon)).

So am trying to get back on track and today I have:

Shined sink
WM on and washing now on line
Nappies made up and put away
Tidied kitchen
Went and collected and opened Dad's post
5 min room rescue on bedroom and dining room

All that and DS and I have been to Baby Yoga. (phew)

Still need to try and get some ironing done - DP has worn shirts this week that I haven't seen for months

Elliepac So glad that DH stepped in when you needed him most, no plaudits but could you send him my way when next month's bout of helpfulness hits.

optimisticmumma · 25/09/2009 15:50

Hi all! Thanks counting for making me feel better!!

Am feeling v.proud of DS1 who scored winning try in rugby match yesterday! (proud mother emoticon)

Today has been less swish and swipe , more spend, spend, spend as I met up with old college friend for the day!!

Anyway have:
swished and swiped
put on DW
emptied DW
put on WM
hung out washing
room rescued
hot spotted

Am still having trouble getting round to decluttering, so later I will

DECLUTTER
iron
change beds
make tea
be a taxi driver for evening

So much for the large glass of wine on my evening routine.
My 'staff' seem to have deserted me this week too

optimisticmumma · 25/09/2009 15:52

havingagiraffe - well done for doing a coffee morning as well as having baby in tow! I am very impressed!

Countingthegreyhairs · 25/09/2009 16:12

yes hats off to you HavingaGiraffe - that's really something

I'm off to give my dd some well-deserved attention after being stuck in bed this week so am posting the weekend's steps here:

Step for Saturday 26 September - another catch up day thank heavens

Step for Sunday 27th September - the start of meal planning

See you later!

Hi all,

I am very impressed with everybody. Nearly at the end of the month and everyone seems to be doing so well, especially as all the bugs have been flying around this month.

I am trying to put off telling you all that I am struggling AGAIN.
Well, the sink is shiny most evenings and if not then first thing in the morning, most hotspots are contained, but I do need to have one pile of "URGENT DO NOW" stuff, - that normally sits there for 2 weeks screaming at me!!
I have managed to keep on top of the washing/drying/ironing (or shake & flatten and hope no-one notices!!)
I do the swish & swipe before work, or first job when I get home if I run out of time!
So perhaps I am not struggling as much I think. This is all a huge improvement on how we were 2 months ago, so I should be proud of that and little by little the rest should come together

GoldenSnitch · 25/09/2009 18:34

I'm not doing well. Seem to have lost the plot entirely

MiniMarmite · 25/09/2009 19:04

HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY havingagiraffe!

LOL, I think it is quite amusing that you all think I am doing well because if you actually saw the state of my house you might change your minds!

Having a lower key day as going to babysit for a friend this evening and think I am going down with some sort of lurgy (do you think it is possible to catch things from mumsnet threads)?

Anyway, here's what I've done
Swish and swash (or whatever it is called)!
supermarket shop
washing in, on and out
a bit of work
dinner
very vague sink shining

My hall table is fast becoming a hotspot...aaah

I still have to do some correspondence later.

Thanks for the weekend link Counting and glad you are feeling better.

DidEinsteinsMum · 25/09/2009 19:14

ok, i fell of the fly thread ages ago. But have had an email from a HD title come fly with me. Was wondering if this was anyone from here. I dont open mail i dont know who it is from. But also dont want to be ignoring anyone either.

Ninjarain.

PS. is there a possibility of a training thread next month pretty please. I really would like to get into this but am scared by the proper threads.

Rhian82 · 25/09/2009 19:52

Lol, I signed up for the emails and apparently tonight I'm supposed to have 15 minutes of 'loving movement' - should I tell DH?

Are you okay GoldenSnitch? Baby steps remember!

Will be ignoring the meal planning as food stuff is DH's area? (actually all kitchen stuff is, but I'm the only one who hoovers it and I think I need to start insisting on mopped floors occasionally!).

DidEinsteinsMum · 25/09/2009 21:58

Actually that is why i am confused because i didnt sign up for any emails. its clear as mud then as to why i have had it.

Countingthegreyhairs · 25/09/2009 22:43

Sounds like one to avoid DidEinsteinsMum ...

Yes, we are definitely repeating baby-steps next month and you are most welcome to join us (it'll be my third time around )

Lol Rhian82 - you realise that in Flylady terms that could mean removing her denim vest and 50 denier American tan tights to the soundtrack of "Please release me let me go"

Hope you don't succumb MiniMarmite - swig some whisky and lemon - and swish/swash far superior to swish/swipe or whatever it is imo ..

Oh no GoldenSnitch - don't be despondent -hope you are OK and just shine your sink and put out your clothes the night before. Only add more when you feel more on top of things. It takes 27 days to establish a routine - the baby-steps are precisely for training purposes remember - tomorrow is another day and all that PA has it right - little by little it will come together ....[waves to PA]

Hope you are OK tibni btw

And sorry I neglected to wish you a very happy birthday HavingaGiraffe - hope you had a good 'un.

And so to bed ....

Have a good w/e everyone!!

havingagiraffe · 26/09/2009 08:02

Laid my clothes out last night and got washing ready to go on - today is IRONING day and I'm determined to do a 15min declutter for the first time

Hello to all and have good weekends - not too much flying hey, it is the weekend.

Optimistic Well done to DS - I hope you didn't embarrass him on the sidelines.

PA My DS already has a more exiting social life than me and he's 5 months!

optimisticmumma · 26/09/2009 10:37

havingagiraffe I always manage to embarrass my DC just by being alive - goes with the teenage territory I'm afraid! But seriously, no I don't think so, I tried to be v.cool

I have also succumbed to the lurgy and I am suspecting it is something to do with flying.

I am refraining from all flying this weekend.

Hope everyone else is feeling better...

blissa · 26/09/2009 10:42

Hi all

Have fallen off the wagon a bit over the past couple of days, although things aren't looking too bad!

You are all doing brilliantly (I think I will definately be joining the October thread

Happy belated birthday Giraffes

Haven't managed to swish n swipe the bathroom yet this morning, as dp is ill again. Will do a proper clean round in there later.

On my second load of washing and have taken dd1 to ballet.

Now have to get ds ready for a party. Wish me luck girls, I have 3 hours of screaming 3 and 4 year olds to endure!

elliepac · 26/09/2009 12:45

sorry I haven't had time to catch up entirely.

blissa good luck with the party and hoep you don't have too much of a headache afterwards .

OM hope you are feeling better soon and same goes to anyone else who has the lurgy.

goldensnitch please don't be sad. At the end of the day, this is a thread about cleaning.....there are far more important things in life (elliepac realises that one of the reasons that she is uttering these words of wisdom is because at this moment in time her house is a pigsty, baby having a nap and she is supposed to be flying yet is sat here mnetting)

This afternoon I am going to:-

do 3 loads of washing
clean kitchen and shine sink
clean and tiday dining room
ditton living room
sort hotspot in hallway
swish and swipe in bathroom using fruitstick's fine bathtime idea
Go food shopping
sort/iron laundry while watching tv.

If you see me on here before then please come and give me a virtual kick up the derriere.

Has anyone else become stuck at a particular point. I appear stuck in hotspot land. Haven't really got any further than that...or up my stairs apart from the bathroom. Think I do need that daft journal after all because i can't remember what the flipping heck i am supposed to be doing.

Anyway, I continue to procrastinate...am going to fly...have a lovely day everyone..it is beautiful here hope you're all having the same sunshine.

elliepac · 26/09/2009 12:48

Oh, and by the way, I definitely need to re-join babysteps come October. I am far too scared of joining the main flying threads and I feel I would get stuck in a corner wearing a dunce's cap

positiveattitudeonly · 26/09/2009 12:54

Blissa - 3 hours!!! Who organises 3 hours of hell? Drop off and go, I would! Hope DH is better soon. I started the babysteps at the beginning of August and although I have rubbish days that really dont go to plan, my house is a huge amount better than it was on August 1st! It does become a habit and I have found myself getting obsessed slightly irritated with things that really were normal here before I started. I dont feel worthy of the tabbard buying obsessed flying lessons on the other thread and am quite happy to carry on with the daily babysteps to keep things ticking over nicely.

OM - Sorry you are feeling poorly. If you have your uber organised notebook around you could just happen to leave it open on the kitchen worktop and bait one of your DCs to help out. Why not give them a tabbard to really feel the part! I am sure they will love it and show off to all their friends, especially on the rugby field! Or just hide under the duvet and hope for the best!

Rhian - I hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of "loving movement". How personal does the fat fairy get? Is nothing left to spontaneity by her?

Happy flying everyone.

elliepac · 26/09/2009 13:50

ok, one hour in and am having a coffee break. Honest!

So far have:-
one load on line
one in washer
cleaned kitchen and shined sink
cleaned and tidied dining room

onwards and upwards or so they say

PA with the several mentions of tabards in your post, I reckon you secretly covet one, go on admit it

snorkie · 26/09/2009 14:38

I too am off the wagon today - nothing done last night & this morning a big rush to get the children off to school (open day) ment that the morning routine went to pot too (as often happens if the kitchen's not shiney first thing). Kitchen is now a muddle (how quickly it deteriorates!), but I'll make an extra effort tonight to get it clear again.

I have a question - although I know another month of baby-steps would be good in some ways what I really need is some more time to consolidate the routines where they are now rather than starting from scratch again - what do you progress to after baby steps? Are you a FLY graduate (& if so what happens then) or is there an intermediate level somewhere. When should zone work start (I am getting e-mails detailing what to do each week/day), but unsure when I should begin attempting it.

Countingthegreyhairs · 26/09/2009 15:38

Hi Snorkie

I was just beginning to ponder all this myself. I've opted not to receive the e-mails (I can't face so many of them) and I need to find out if I can still access the daily task from the Flylady website fairly easily. (Sorry, I'm not an expert on this at all - as is probably evident by now - just muddling through like everyone else )

I think we need Dreamteam to advise ....how do you actually graduate from baby-steps to daily tasks???? Is it poss to do this without receiving multiple e-mails???

In fact PA and I were just pondering on last thread (where we are still chatting) on how you want to run October's thread?

I was going to ask if everyone just wants baby-steps and/or daily step and Snorkie has answered that one. Shall we do both and then everyone can choose which suits them best?

Also, don't want to upset the Flying "professionals" on other thread (by causing confusion through starting "rival" thread) so will drop them an explanatory post before we start. Anyone have any good ideas as to what we can call ourselves so that there isn't any confusion between two??? (Fledgling Flyers - October thread???) or similar???

Finally, I am happy to run thread once we have sorted out above or equally happy for someone else to take over.

Let me know your thoughts!!

OP posts:
elliepac · 26/09/2009 16:34

CTGH i think that sounds like a fine idea. I think I maybe need to attempt this zone business and then if I fail miserably (oh the confidence i have in myself) i can go back to babysteps.

Don't think I can face the e-mails. I'll look at them at work and then stress myself about what i should be doing that night.

Are you ok running the thread still CTGH because it is a lot of extra stuff to remember. I am quite willing to help out although have no idea how to links etc. but i do think you are doing a fine job and i regard you as my leader .

Alos a good idea about notifying main thread...don't want to put the cat amongst the pigeons so to speak.

In fact you are just full of great ideas today! (fledging flyers sounds good to me...not quite ready to leave the warmth and comfort of babysteps yet but peeking over the edge with intrepidation wondering if we can do it)

I am having a very successful day today. Apart from putting another load of washing out i have actually completed my list today already. The reason I am interested in the zone stuff is because i never seem to make it out of the bottom of my house and i need to start doing more stuff elsewhere rather than obsessing about my blardy sink. Even though i have fallen off the wagon too many times to mention, i still think that each time when i drag myself back on it gets easier because the mess is not so bad if that makes sense.

Anyway, enough rambling, i am going to cook tea...pizza can't be bothered with anything exciting.

optimisticmumma · 26/09/2009 16:49

CTGH - I also think that sounds a good idea. I feel I don't want to start at the beginning but need an intermediate flying group iyswim! I'm sure main flying thread won't mind not having a whole load of newbies joining at once and they are much further on than us....

Thanks for all good wishes! I am in bed and feeling v. sorry for myself as I HATE being ill and have far too much to do.

My DH has hung out washing and put another load on and I think is thinking about food!

DS2 and DD are also ill. DS 1 is applying loads of handgel and has gone to girlfriends to avoid contamination!

dreamteamgirl · 26/09/2009 17:01

Hey all

CTGH I think fledglingflyers is a great thread name

As for going from babysteps to the full thing, I spose I just did it by writing it all down- it wasnt a control journal at that point just a cobbled together word documnet, taken by copying, pasting from other peoples routines and editing in what I actually did/ needed.
Then I started to tick things off, then eventually allocated a daily task that would take 20 mins or so. I kept it all within the 15 minute-ish limit, cos as you know if you set the timer and go for it you get loads and loads done in 15 mins.
In fact these days, I use 15 minute timers for everything and my whole team at work use them on a Monday afternoon and Friday morning to do email clear ups- we get hundreds of emails in our job so we all declutter our inboxes for 15 mins twice a week

The daily missions are so easy to find. Just go to the main website, click on Flyzones, then Kelly's missions or go straight here www.flylady.net/pages/FlightPlan_Missions.asp http://www.flylady.net/pages/FlightPlan_Missions.asp Kelly's Missions

After a few months you find that you dont need to actually do the mission half the time- like last week clearing the bedstand, where mine is now always if not spotless, only 2 or 3 minutes from shining bright IYSWIM?

So I would say you just do it by adding a little thing in each day ... Either do Kelly's Mission or a 15 minute declutter or by copying a pasting the Work zone into word and working out how you can tackle it in your home
Next week is zone 5- the family room or the lounge
"ZONE 5: LIVING ROOM/ FAMILY ROOM/ DEN

  1. CLEAN COBWEBS
  2. CLEAN WINDOWS
  3. STRAIGHTEN BOOKCASES
  4. WASH ORNAMENTS AND WHAT-KNOTS
  5. CLEAN OUT END TABLE
  6. STRAIGHTEN CLOSETS/ DRAWERS
  7. WIPE FINGERPRINTS FROM WALLS
  8. POLISH FURNITURE
  9. CLEAN OUT MAGAZINE RACKS
10. CLEAN PHONE 11. CLEAN UNDER CUSHIONS 12. CLEAN OUT FIREPLACE 13. MOVE FURNITURE AND VACUUM 14. SHAMPOO CARPET If you have a family room, game room, sun porch, or other room that is used by the family for living purposes, then concentrate on decluttering one room each month (or as you find more time). Do not push yourself. They did not get cluttered in one month and they will not get clean in one week. Remember: baby steps. If you are unable to do any task, just delete it and go to the next one. Do not save them up. We will repeat the same thing each week and each month. I am just your reminder. - FlyLady"

From www.flylady.net/images/Detailed_Cleaning_Lists.pdf

Does that help at all? I am not sure i really answered the question TBH!!!

positiveattitudeonly · 26/09/2009 17:05

CTHG - Sounds like a good plan to me. If you are happy to do that again. I can always stand in for you again if you cant make it! I feel ready to tackle a little more now that the babysteps are so obsessional ingrained! I really am not ready to show my face over on the other thread, nothing against anyone on there, just really not up to that standard - YET!!!

Elliepac - I have one for each day of the week! Would you like one? - Congrats on your sucessful day! And a weekend, too. I am impressed. I've just enjoyed a walk and a drink with DS which was lovely, now heading for a bath to get ready for a night out. Only bare essentials done today. About 10 loads of washing needing to be done tomorrow.......oh no!!!
