Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

LMAO Elliepac I have never been anyone's idol before! I like it
See I knew there was a reason I posted here

OK, for walkingthe dinosaur, elliepac and whomever else asked/ wanted best probably to email me at (squish it)
jules_ashford @ yahoo .com and just use the header control journal. I will do some stripping of it so you dont have all my telephone numbers, and it isnt quite finished so there are a couple of blank headers, but it is yours for the taking, editing and adapting!!

POA you're mean. Why wont you give me the lovely house you worked so hard for and adapted and rebuilt to make it right for your family ... oh right, yeah - that will be why! LMAO

OM TBH if you are already feeling human I wouldnt bother with tamiflu. Makes you feel quite sick according to my sister who had it back in June. Hope you feel better later xx

dreamteamgirl · 27/09/2009 23:51

oh and shoppingveggie no need to catch up! As flylady says, you are never behind- just jump in where you are, and babysteps will be repeated again next month

walkthedinosaur · 28/09/2009 08:47

Am going to report in as was feeling despondent last night that I'd fallen off track so badly.

So last night I:
Loaded dishwasher
Washed all the kitchen surface
Cleaned cooker top
Packed DS1's school bag
Removed all the junk from the top of the dining room table
Vacuumed dining room and kitchen
Did all ironing and put it away before going to bed
Cleared the crap off the coffee table
Put on 2 loads of washing
And of course shone the sinke

This morning I have:-
Made my bed and DS1's bed
Did DC's breakfast
Wiped dining table down
Walked dog
Emptied dishwasher and started filling again
Hung out two loads of washing
Stripped DS2's bed and that's in the machine now
Swished and swiped
Cleaned all dinosaur toys out of bath and cleaned bath
Emptied bathroom and landing bins
Checked a piece of work and sent it off to client for 9.00 am deadline

If I get on well with my work today at lunchtime I'd like to vacuum my bedroom and run a mop over the bathroom floor - but I need to get on now otherwise I'll not have time.

Seems everyone is doing well, hope those of you who are feeling poorly get better soon.

Dreamteamgirl - I'll be dropping you an email shortly - thanks so much for sharing.

fruitstick · 28/09/2009 09:07

dinosaur 'If I get on well with my work today at lunchtime I'd like to vacuum my bedroom and run a mop over the bathroom floor'
Do you remember a time when you had more luxurious incentives

We had friends to stay this weekend which was great fun and a good motivator for tidying the house. He was our ex-flat mate and commented on the tidiness of our house as soon as he walked in (which was a little insulting .

This morning DH emptied dishwasher first thing and now insists that he swishes and swipes his own toilet habits!

Washing machine is on, sink is shiney and today I am tackling DS2's nursery which has evolved from hotspot into war zone.

Kepp up the good work everyone and I hope the pig flu subsides.

Rhian82 · 28/09/2009 09:30

Fledgling flyers for October sounds great. It's all a bit weird with me as we're about to move, which means we need intensive cleaning and de-cluttering RIGHT NOW, then we'll have unpacking to do, but should be able to get on track with cleaning right from the start in the new place.

So far this morning I have put DS's nappies in the washing machine, and that's about it Place desperately needs hoovering, but there are packing boxes in front of the cupboard where the hoover's kept!

fruitstick · 28/09/2009 09:55

rhian shall we set up our own corner for house movers (maybe with cushions and gin). We move a week on Friday.

I'm determined that everything is going to have it's place from the minute we move in and hopefully we can start as we mean to go on.

It's only a rental so I'm hoping it will be clean when we move in at least.

In the meantime, let the decluttering commence!

Rhian82 · 28/09/2009 10:16

Ooh yes gin sounds wonderful! We're moving a week Saturday, and are also renting - we can get through this together!

Have a bag for the charity shop I will be taking out later. There's more to go, but I can only carry so much at a time.

And helpfully, DS has just this weekend learned to crawl. Oh that makes life so much easier

havingagiraffe · 28/09/2009 10:23

Typing one handed (again) so will be brief but 'fledgling flyers' sounds great. I have just been thinking that I have my morning and evening routines sorted and the 5 min room rescue but can't seem to get normal stuff done - hoovering, ironing etc etc so need to expand things a bit. Wish I'd logged on yesterday.

As it was I wrote a list of all the things I need to do each week and the next step is to put them into a bit of a plan (meant to do that to but x-factor was just too diverting )

DS has his first cold and Saturday night (or should I say Sunday morning) he wouldn't settle anywhere except in my arms - ended up watching Greys Anatomy at 5am just to make sure he got some rest, so not much flying achieved yesterday. Today is a new day though and the DW and WM are on right now.

blissa · 28/09/2009 11:24

Ok I have failed on the rest thing for today! Had 2 late nights over the weekend and feel absolutely shattered today[getting old emoticon]

Twas a lovely day here yesterday so took the dcs out on their bikes and then spent the afternoon in the garden, so no flying done.

I have swished and swiped the bathroom this morning (in preparation for my nice hot bath when I got back from the school run!), hoovered and washed 2 loads. Think that's all I'll manage today.

OM I hope you all feel better soon.

Fledgling Flyers sounds great for the October thread. Where did September go?!

dreamteamgirl · 28/09/2009 11:24

Hey hey walkthedinosaur Now you know how to live . Enjoy your mopping

fruitstick WTG on getting DH flying. Well done to you. And LOL at ex flat mate spotting your new tidy place- I feel the same when my mum says 'ooh isnt it tidy in here'

havingagiraffe hope DS gets well soon. Its horrid when they are poorly

Rhian great work, and yes... moving children... NOW the fun really begins

Walkthedinosuar & snorkie. Got your emails will send control journal when I get home xx

dreamteamgirl · 28/09/2009 11:25

Good start to the day blissa

snorkie · 28/09/2009 11:38

Hi all!

Morning routine went well today & I have hoovered & dusted downstairs & finished decluttering the worst living room hotspot (yay!).

Hope everyone is feeling better.

positiveattitudeonly · 28/09/2009 12:13

Hi all, Everyone seems really organised!

Can I boast let you know what I did this morning.
Normal routine of swish and swipe,
unload dishwaher
sort dried clothes
made sandwiches x7
breakfast x7
kitchen all sorted

so still had an hour before I left for work and got a bee in my bonnet about my winter clothes, so did a whole wardrobe sort out. All summer stuff now on top shelf - i am a bit short, so useless shelf for me to get to, so I alternate it with the seasons clothes I am not using! All winter clothes now sorted, hung and ready to be worn! Mega chuffed!!

Also was awake in the night and had a psychologically insight moment! [hmm,] This control journal issue has got me thinking about why I am so against it. As a child my mum ran a big family and a hectic life by having lists! As kids we loved the idea of messing up her day by ticking off anything we didn't want to do, so that she thought we had done it already. It was a huge family joke, my mum and her lists!! My sisters and I have always just thought it was well weird and definitely a sign of old age! - childrens logic there somewhere. Now it is even worse as senile dementia has set in and mum's list writing has become a real obsession with her!! Hence my rebeliousness toward the journal, but I am beginning to see how it could be useful. I have to confess I have, for the first time ever, started keeping a note pad in the kitchen drawer for the things I need next time I am out shopping as I am fed up of forgetting them! When my sister dropped by at the weekend I was so worried that she would find my list and laugh at me!! Perhaps I just need to accept that I am growing old. (You and me, Blissa) I have never used a diary, either, I just retain dates in my head! Just been trying to sort out a diary to get started with, then perhaps I could use that as a starter, babystep journal thingy at the same time??? perhaps I could give it a go and see how I get on for next month?
Enough rambling and walkingthedinosaur I am also hoping to get off work early to get home and have time to hoover before school ends! How sad are we???
OM - I hope you stop oinking soon!
fruitstick & Rhian - Good luck with the moves. We moved 9 years ago and still have boxes waiting to be unpacked in our cellar!

Bigboots · 28/09/2009 13:11

Have finally got back off the ground - hovering really rather than flying yet, but at least I'm back! Only acheived by a 5 o' clock start (OMG ) so I could catch up! So far today I have;

Emptied the DW and reloaded
Ironed a monstrous pile of clothes
Snuck into DC's bedrooms to put out uniforms whilst they were still asleep!
Polished shoes
Showered and dressed
Did breakfast
Put DW on
Did school run
Swished and swiped (I was a swish and swipe virgin until this am but loved it!
Changed beds
Hung out washing that has been festering in the machine since yesterday
Hoovered
Took Dh's forgotten lunch to him at work
Did some lesson planning

Look at all that!!!! Feeling good and not a bit slovenly (smug icon).

Still have dog to walk....

Will probably be done for by tea-time

optimisticmumma · 28/09/2009 13:49

Wow Bigboots! Did you have insomnia or deliberately wake at 5?

Thanks for all your good wishes.Am feeling a bit more human so decided against tamiflu(spoke to doc)

Mum being fab and is coming back with supper.
Kitchen looked like a bomb has hit it so had to spend 5 mins undoing DW and reloading...

Just managed a Tesco order but that's it for today

Am v. frustrated- when I am awake that is!

Countingthegreyhairs · 28/09/2009 15:31

Crikey - leave you lot to your own devices for the best part of a day and look what happens - so many posts - so much activity!!

Tis absolutely BRILLIANT everyone!! Well done! That's a really positive start to the week.

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better Optimistic

Important message for ShoppingVeggie - hellllooooo!!!! - please don't feel down - as others have said this is not something you have to do perfectly and then feel you've failed if you don't. If you don't get the routines done every day it really isn't a problem. This is a learning process - some days we will be great at it and other times we won't. Forget the past weeks and just jump in and do one small step today!! Honestly, you are never behind - just adapt the system to suit yourself. We are not in competition with anyone else but ourselves!

Well done Bigboots - it is so great you are back and talk about a flying start for a Monday morning! You too Walkthedinosaur - remember everyone this is a learning process - you are never behind!

You too PA - have a bee in my bonnet about winter clothes too at the moment - and hope you overcome your control journal psychological block!! We will indoctrinate persuade you eventually I thinkmy life would fall apart without a multitude of lists, calendars and diaries - how do you do it??? BTW I bet I am older than you and Blissa combined

Hello to Snorkie, GoldenSnitch, Elliepac and MiniMarmite (hope you are feeling better today) and anyone I have missed

Thanks for allowing us to access your routines Dreamteam

Take it steady Blissa you are doing really well

Hope ds is better soon HavingaGiraffe the first cold is always a worrying one ...

Good luck with the packing Fruitstick and Rhian82

With regard to October thread (starting this Thurs) Fledgling Flyers

thank you very much Dreamteam for writing out the three-pronged approach for me - that makes it much clearer

So just to reiterate:

  • Some people repeating/ starting just baby steps
  • Some people repeating baby steps and adding in 15 mins a day declutter on the zone we are in (eg living area next week)
  • Some people reinforcing the babysteps, but are decluttered so doing the daily missions

And before we start (IF you want to) it would be helpful to have the beginnings of a control journal with your routines written in it, plus a basic weekly plan (see post Sun 27 15.57 for Flylady links)

OP posts:
Countingthegreyhairs · 28/09/2009 15:41

Oh and nearly forgot!!!!!

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear tibni
Happy Birthday to you!!

Hope you are not Flying today!

OP posts:
Countingthegreyhairs · 28/09/2009 15:53

Step for tomorrow:

Tuesday 29th September - all about pampering

Here's the Flylady link if anyone is interested www.flylady.net/pages/pamper1.asp

In addition to scheduling in some time for ourselves on a weekly basis (which I do think is a good idea - if we don't do it - no one will do it for us) I think the most important thing about this step is the fact that Flylady said it took her 9 months to establish her routines.

So take heart anyone who is struggling a bit (like me at the moment). You are not behind. Just don't give up entirely!

This system is about taking small realistic steps and having realistic expectations - so let's banish the "all or nothing" thinking

Oh dear, now I sound like Dr Phil ....

Thanks CTGH and Dreamteamgirl for your words of wisdom - I will just step in from today - sink is shining!

Right, School Ma'am time! As we are coming to the end of the month, I think we should all write something positive we have achieved this month. Look back and see what you are proud of, or what has changed for the better. Everyone must be able to do that even if we feel as if we haven't acheived a great deal.

I'll start off then: I am pleased that if anyone comes through my door now, my first words do not have to be "excuse the mess"! They can even go to the bathroom without me having a quick panic!

Your thoughts please!

MiniMarmite · 28/09/2009 20:04

Blimey, must be the pregnancy hormones as I'm a) feeling all emotional about how lovely and supportive you are b) loving a thread about cleaning!

So, today:

  • didn't swish swash so will do before bed
  • breakfast DH did clearing up etc and I went to...
  • work
  • cleared away dinner things, loaded dishwasher, cleaned surfaces, made chicken stock

to do:
ironing and put away clothes
start of official Marmite Household Declutter Programme Day 1 - Study
read pampering for Tuesday
pack DS nursery bag
clothes out for tomorrow for DS and me

Tomorrow:
-S/S

  • make breakfast, clear up kitchen
  • drop DS at nursery
  • Work (at home)
  • general tidy upstair and downstairs (cleaners come Weds, oh, I'm such a cheat)
  • collect DS
  • dinner, clear away etc
  • Declutter day 2
  • ironing (I have to do little bits a time as I hate it)
  • meal planning and box scheme order
  • pampering (might defer to Wednesday though)

Everyone seems to be doing wonderfully so the group effort must be paying off

Thanks CTGH I am feeling much better now.

elliepac · 28/09/2009 20:14

wooooo. what a busy day..almost impossible to keep up to date with everything.

Happy Birthday tibni hope you've had a fab day and stayed completely grounded (ie not flown)

blissa and walkthedinosaur sounds like you two literally had a flying start to the week.

OM hope the piggy flu is subsiding.

fruitstick and rhian hope the moving goes ok..tis a nightmare to be sure to be sure.

pa i think ctgh's indoctrination is working on us both, having firmly believed that the journal was a load of bunkum am firmly coming round to her way of thinking..how does she do it?

Hello to everyone I haven't had time to mention and dreamteam am going to e-mail you (my idol ) shortly so I can steal share your wisdom.

Today, have been quite good for a week day, have managed to:-

washing out before i went to work
cleared breakfast pots before i went to work (never achieved before but it was so nice not to come home to them)
general tidy
clothes ready for morning
cooked dinner and cleared away
put DC's washing away upstairs.

Not bad...could do better but not bad.

PA what a lovely way to end the month...

Th absence of that sinking feeling when the door goes rates highly on my list too. However, the fact that not once this month have i got so far behind with the housework that it takes a whole day/evening to get it back to presentable is big news to me. I used to get to friday and not be able to see sink, floors etc. Not no more!!!

dreamteamgirl · 28/09/2009 23:05

Wow, how well have we all done?!

Have sent control journal to everyone who has asked, so if you havent had it, I havent had your email.

Happy birthday TBNI I hope it was wonderful

Thankyou so much CTGH, you keep us all on track and me achieveing my 80%. I hope it is ok if I stay on this thread, as I dont know people on the other FLY thread. This is where I posted first and I feel at home here.

earlyonemorning you may not have had a perfect 48 hours, but at least you are starting from a miles better baseline than you might have been huh? And dont worry- just get back into it tomorrow

POA great idea having our positives. Mine is finally bringing my journal together in one place and actually being able to share it with you lovely folks!!!

Well done to marmite and ellie
I like the use of 'sinking feeling'
