Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

Morning everyone

crikey - you certainly got off to a cracking start this morning Ellie!! (Hope the photo shoot goes well) Well done to you, PA, Giraffe, Fruitstick and Blissa Blissa - hope ds enjoyed his "big bed" last night

Giraffe - hope your ds has a better day today and you can get some rest and/or Fly a little

Big boots - yay - great you are back! You are NEVER behind with the Flylady system. Seriously, every part of your house will be dealt with in time. For the moment, just do a few of the steps and no more than that.

Fruitstick -

  • perhaps a useful tip or too in here

Thanks for the 're-welcome' CTGH. Sorry you've had a difficult time lately. Think I might re-do the baby steps along with some the others next month, but am going to have a big catch up this morning and go on from there - DC's have a bit of telly time on Sunday am!

Countingthegreyhairs · 20/09/2009 19:15

Thanks BigBoots - hope you had a good day and that everyone had a productive w/e.

Here is the step for tomorrow:

step for Monday 21st September - a bit of light reading ... catch up day or if you are feeling keen ... check out the q&a for Monday regarding babysteps and feeling as if you are behind etc

Have a good week everyone!

elliepac · 20/09/2009 19:33

Oh, why do weekends have to end?

Anyway, have pulled myself off my lazy arse today and have:-

Shined sink
polished and mopped floor in living room
ditto for dining room
cleaned bathroom
done hotspot on landing
made 2/3 beds
cooked and cleared away from dinner
done 3 loads of washing
put out clothes/ironed etc. for morning
helped DS with his homework (not technically speakinf work but felt like it!)
Tidied DC's bedrooms

Phew, am exhausted just looking at that. AM going to reward myself with a nice long soak in the bath and come dine with me. Have a good week everyone.

Oh and by the way bigboots think i will be back on babysteps because i don't feel the routine is ingrained just yet. Had a sneaky lurk on the main fly threads and there is no way i can keep up with them

GoldenSnitch · 20/09/2009 20:15

Weekend has been a blowout again!

Starting again, again tomorrow

blissa · 20/09/2009 20:33

I feel the same way ellie, hate this sunday night feeling. How was your shopping? I only ended up having to take dd2 with me, which wasn't too bad. I went straight from dropping dd1 at ballet at 9am so was it was still relatively quiet. By the time we came out they were queing to get in the car park! You're achievement list today is very impressive.

Ds loves his new bed thanks Ctgh, we've also managed to get him to swap his morning bottle of milk for a mug, he will be 4 soon!

Hope you have a better day tomorrow Goldensnitch

Not managed loads today, but kitchen is pretty shiney. I bought a new drainer thing today as ours was looking a bit grim. Noticed today that the cupboard doors are filthy so will tackle them tomorrow

elliepac · 20/09/2009 20:45

blissa, shopping was a fecking nightmare if you pardon my french. DS was a complete nightmare, running around like all those children I normally tut at when it's just me and DD . Only started behaving when I said I would tell DH about his behaviour. Why the bloody hell won't he behave for me. AAAAAAAAAGH. Anyway, onwards and upwards, he's been adorable today so all is forgiven and forgotten. And well done on getting Ds to give up the bottle. Really should try with DD but -can't- -be- -arsed- -yet- don't think she's ready.

Achievement list may look impressive but I have done practically nothing the rest of the week so am merely catching you guys up.

elliepac · 20/09/2009 20:46

oh bloody hell, i will get the hang of this crossing out thing one day

deepdarkwood · 20/09/2009 20:51

Humm, busy weekends always seem to squash my flying somewhat ... and knackered tonight having been at the London skyride all day (they close loads of streets to cars - had a ball ) - will do better tomorrow!

fruitstick · 20/09/2009 22:44

Thanks CTGH, I shall inwardly digest. Everyone else seems to have had a much more productive weekend than me.

Today I failed to follow the fly decluttering laws. DH got all the boxes of clothes down from the loft but there was definitely too much to be done in the alloted time and the place still looks like a bomb site.

Depressed myself completely by giving all my lovely expensive pre-DC clothes to me thinner (and older) sister and discovered a whole bag of clothes to fit DS2 now which I thought I'd given away so bought new ones .

Have a huge bag for the charity shop tomorrow, a huge box ready for the NCT nearly new sale and a big pile for ebay.

It may still take me some time!

havingagiraffe · 21/09/2009 07:25

That sounds pretty impressive fruitstick. Maybe the cash from e-bay will help ease the pain of giving away the 'skinny' clothes.

Bissa and ellie, glad you both survived the shopping of not actually enjoyed it. Every week I thank my lucky stars that it's one of the few chores that DS will happily watch me do. He just sits in his seat looking at the stuff on the shelves and I know the day will come when I have to bribe him to sit still and behave!

Spent most of the weekend baking so the flying definitely went out of the window. I need to get a journal in place as kept forgetting what I was supposed to do, clearly these things are not a habit yet so onwards and upwards today.

Something about Mondays makes you want to get back on the wagon don't you think?

positiveattitudeonly · 21/09/2009 08:24

I totally agree about needing wanting to get back on the wagon on a Monday morning.
The place went toally to pot this weekend! Up early this morning to get sorted before work.

So far I have:

Dried school/work clothes ( that is how far I fell off the wagon this weekend!!)
Ironed shirts, shook and flattened trousers and hoping no-one notices absence of iron crease!
6 sets of sandwiches done for lunch
breakfast - doing! (me one handed while on here!)
second load of washing now in tumble dryer - working all day and looks as if it may rain! (my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!)
dishwasher unloaded
dishwasher loaded
Hand washed the stuff that would not fit in the dishwasher - now you know how bad it was last night!!
Wiped down kitchen tops
shined sink
Made bed (kids make their own! )
Sorted dried clothes

Off to work, so not planning on doing a lot later as a manic evening of taxi-ing kids all over the place and quick turn around for tea and out again.

All went a bit quiet on here at the weekend come and tell me that was because you were all as busy as me and have not done a thing in the house other than make a mess!!! Or were you all so busy decluttering?
Just noticed a inferno large hotspot that has sprung up on the hallway table since dousing one on the kitchen dresser! Must tackle that before it spreads throughout the hallway. - definite job to be fitted in tonight

Have a good day all and hope you all get back on track, if you need to!

GoldenSnitch · 21/09/2009 08:46

Kitchen surprisingly tidy this morning to say we had it all to pieces to finally silicone seal the worktops! Did it myself while DH looked after DS - turns out I'm a bit of a whizz with a mastic gun and a soapy finger

So, it takes 24 hours to set so I'll have to be careful wiping down the kitchen today but I already have a head start as it looks neater in there for having another job done.

Ordered DS's new bed and mattress over the weekend too so need to add buying sheets and a single duvet to my list of jobs for this week - possibly today if I'm not too tired after taking him to Toddler group AND swimming this morning!!!

Right, I'm dressed and breakfasted....just time to empty and reload the dishwasher and wipe round the kitchen before I pack the swim bag...

fruitstick · 21/09/2009 10:15

PA I am in awe of your industry before work .

I put my shoes on before going downstairs today!

We left late for nursery today but only because I insisted on unloading the dishwasher, clearing breakfast things away, making bed and wiping sink before leaving the house!

Need to make sure I make DSs sandwiches the night before and LOCATE DSs SHOES and I think we can leave on time.

Today I am going to -
have another stab at decluttering the clothes
clean bathroom
get some removal quotes
weekly shop
make DS2s purees for the week.

Good luck one and all!

walkthedinosaur · 21/09/2009 11:53

Hello all,

Been a bit chaotic here but managed to make time last night to get on top of things, I can safely say that the downstairs of my house is sparkling - I even wiped the sticky finger prints off the walls! Don't know why we thought it a good idea to paint every wall white with two DS's and an aged dog with dementia. Two loads of laundry done and drying, bathroom cleaned before I started work this morning. What do you have around your bathroom sink? I find myself every morning moving a collection of tubes and bottles just to wipe the sink down - and don't get me started on having to remove dinosaurs from the bath every night

Yesterday made pumpkin and apple muffins, pumpkin pie and pumpkin and prawn curry - can you see a theme? Was given two huge pumpkins by a friend so have been trying to use it up. I've still frozen loads of it to add to stews later.

Right back to work for me! I've been good today, this is the first time today I've been tempted by the internet and amazingly have got through quite a lot of work on the upside.

snorkie · 21/09/2009 12:01

Not doing too badly today. The morning routine seems to be going well & the evening one mostly OK. I'm a bit of an owl, so going to bed at a reasonable time is the most challenging bit. Consequently I'm feeling tired today

I am noticing improvements in the house. The kitchen, bathroom, my bedroom and parts of the living room are all noticeably tidier. Decluttering is progressing slowly, but I do find it hard to get rid of stuff - is everyone else the same?

optimisticmumma · 21/09/2009 19:19

Evening all!
Just in from work and flying past. Although I haven't done much today my house does feel better for being organised the night before iyswim!!!

Walkingthedinosaur - I'm very impressed with your pumpkin fest.!!

PAO - you make me feel humbled by your pre-work industry. You either got up at 5 or didn't start work till 12 now which was it???

Had a clothes crisis this am when I had a change of mind halfway through dressing as I remembered I was running Cooking Club tonight! Would flylady have approved? i suppose she would have told me to wear the denim tabardy thing!!

Bye for now

positiveattitudeonly · 21/09/2009 19:54

OM - Up at 6, work at 8.30 !!!

Paying for my flying start for today by being absolutely shattered now! Pick up kids from a club at 9.30, drink of wine and an early night I think. - Not sure fat fairy flylady would approve of me either, but do I care????

Not enough space in the dishwasher tonight and I really can't be *sed to hand wash twice in one day, so sink piled high and I will sort in the morning again.

fruitstick · 21/09/2009 20:06

walkthedinosaur we are not worthy. I am fully in favour of the wine though despite what Her Plumpness might thing.

Right - my progress today

have another stab at decluttering the clothes realised I was just moving thing from one pile to another so gave up. Did take binbag to the clothing bank though
clean bathroom - done and then DS1 (3) had a small accident which he tried to clear up himself (poor wee thing) and smeared poo all round the toilet seat and base of toilet
get some removal quotes - done
weekly shop - done
make DS2s purees for the week - half done.

tonight I am going to add 'find DS shoes' to the bedtime routine so tomorrow morning can get off to a better start.

Is anyone else trying to do this with a baby? My 15 minute declutter is often cut short by waking/whinging/hunger etc. And he often scuppers my efforts to shower before he wakes up.

fruitstick · 21/09/2009 20:06

sorry, italics doesn't work!

Hulla · 21/09/2009 20:22

Hello Flypeople! Can I join? I think I need to...my mum just offered to come to my house and de-clutter for me

This thread is massive so would someone please tell me what I need to do on this here? I've checked out the fly lady site but do I post on here and tell you all what I plan to do? Do I have to say if I've done it?

elliepac · 21/09/2009 20:55

Evening all,

Welcome hulla. This is the babysteps thread for those of us who really need help to get started. The general idea is that we follow the babysteps on the fly lady site. Have forgotten where we are up to..(not that I am actually up to date ) This thread is here for support. SO you can tell us what you plan to do, what you have done, what you can't be arsed to do and, more often than not in my case, when you haven't done anything at all.

Countingthegreyhairs is our esteemed leader so she may say something far more sensible than me but I suggest you start right at the beginning with the flylady routine with the first babystep. Don't stress at all about getting up to where some of us are (poa am so impressed with you right now, it's all i can do to get myself out of the door in the morning). SOme of us have already we will be starting from the beginning again next month. Don't try and do too much at once just do the babysteps day by day and it will make a difference. I have fallen off the wagon more times than I care to admit but my house is starting to look a little better even with my laziness busy life.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I have now worked out I am an all or nothing kind of girl. Yesterday did practically everything I was supposed to....today, nothing. Am not even going to pretend i am going to do anything...waking the dead is on in a minute.

Have a fab day tomorrow.

Rhian82 · 22/09/2009 09:28

Ooh can I join too!

Our flat is a tip, I've been wanting to get on top of it for a while, but we are now going to be moving in three weeks so it's a bit more urgent! Need to de-clutter massively and have the place clean and sparkling so we get our deposit back? then get into good habits straight away with the new flat.

So far today I have?

Got up and dressed (no shoes!)
Fed DS milk and breakfast
Had breakfast
Put nappies in washing machine
Done mini-hoover around DS's 'play' part of living room, and his high-chair, removing all the rice that was still there from his tea yesterday!

DS is eleven months, not crawling yet but a bit of an attention seeker so can be difficult to get stuff done with him - I can hang up laundry okay but even ironing a shirt can be difficult without him needing picking up for a hug several times. He naps twice a day, generally for 30-60 minutes, and no matter what I do with that time I feel like I'm wasting it! I'm home with him Mon and Tues, work Weds-Fri, and then don't get much done at the weekends as DH feels they are 'family time' and hates filling them with housework!

So baby steps feel the way to go? so the big 'clean as we clear out' in three weeks isn't too painful.

fruitstick · 22/09/2009 09:36

Rhian welcome! Your days sound very much like mine .

Three weeks in and I'm finding the babysteps really helpful with a baby around. The allowing yourself a time limit and doing what you can works well around naps etc. Before I would start a massive clean, DS would wake up and the place would look worse than before.

Morning routine worked well today but I am taking myself off to toddler group today as I feel like I haven't spoken to an actual adult for days now (you ladies don't count and I class DH in with the DCs)

fruitstick · 22/09/2009 09:39

this is today's step - in CTGH's absence.

I am still confused about the whole control journal thing. I am supposed to have more in mine than the morning and evening routine?

Have I missed a step?
