Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

Does everyone do the control journal thing? I can see myself getting sidetracked making that and not getting anything done!

DS is napping? have listed pile of magazines on Freecycle. Yay!

positiveattitudeonly · 22/09/2009 10:11

Thanks for post5ing fruitstick, I was just coming on to see if ctgh had made it or not.

Welcome to Hulla and I am glad you have found us over here Rhian82.

I am hanging my head in shame! After my wizz yesterday morning everything went downhill, rapidly! .
Went to bed with the sink full up again, with overflow from dishwasher, only to come down this morning to find I had forgotten to push the ON button on the washer. So had dirty dishwasher as well as pots and pans everywhere!
I had also taken off the throws we have on our large lounge sofas, put them in the washing machine, and stupidly forgot to turn that on too! This was in preparation for a visit from someone I am really dreading coming this pm (professional). So now I have to get home from work, empty dishwasher, load again, dry throws, get them back on the sofas, collect DD from education unit and get back to argue discuss a care plan for unwell DD3 with professional. All within 45 minutes!!!!
Anyone got any way of stretching time slightly!! I have to look like a competent mum and everything has gone wrong!! ARGHHHHHH!!!!

Must go, if I am super quick here at work, maybe I could grab a few minutes and leave early. I will post later, unless I have gone into total meltdown and am cowering in my under the stairs cupboard!!!!

positiveattitudeonly · 22/09/2009 10:13

Rhian - I have never done the journal thing. Way too organised for me. I am a muddle along sort of person and a journal would send me crazy!!! >

snorkie · 22/09/2009 10:27

fruitstick- there was also supposed to be a 'motivational page' (bleugh!) in the control journal, but I think most of us missed that one out.

My journal was requisitioned by ds for some school work, so I'm running without one (for now at least).

tibni · 22/09/2009 10:36

Hi all,

I have ds (ASD) off sick. Started over the weekend. I think its his teeth (bright red cheeks and saying "hot"). He has an upset tummy which is why I have him off school.

He suffered with teeth when he was a baby and although he is 8 now he has very little language and sensory dysfunction so it is difficult.

Loft being done on Friday - going to have to get some more done!

Have a good day all.

GoldenSnitch · 22/09/2009 12:55

All went wrong today when I had to get up early to take DH to the station. Managed to get dressed and the bed made but didn't have enough time to get breakfast or any of the morning routine done before we had to go.

Then it didn't seem to come together after we'd gotten back.

Will try to do this afternoons jobs after todder group in super quick time so i can add some of this mornings missed jobs on.

Countingthegreyhairs · 22/09/2009 14:03

sorry to be so unreliable - bed-ridden today

I have flu - horrible up-chucking this morning -

wierd virus: sniffles day 1, running nose day 2, sore throat day 3, cough day 4, sweats and up-chucking today (day 5)

am slightly dreading what tomorrow may bring!!

sorry for tmi - do you think this is piggy flu?

thank you for taking over Fruitstick - much appreciated

Meant to say

hope your ds feels better tibni

and a warm welcome to Hulla and Rhian

Elliepac is quite right. Just jump in and do one small step a day.

control journal may seem a bit superfluous now but it does build up later on with meal planning etc etc - also emergency/contact details section at front (also to come) has saved frantic 20 mins of scrabbling more times than I can say - will research rest of qs about this once back in bed!

crawling off now

good luck everyone!

Rhian82 · 22/09/2009 14:45

Meal planning?! Wow!!

DH does all our cooking, but I tend to have to plan DS's food (even when I make DH cook it). The idea of planning it in advance is a wonderment to me?

Took two bags of stuff to Oxfam, bagged up baby clothes for a friend, cleaned the kitchen and bathroom bins? now if I can just get DS to fall asleep I might be able to get more done!

positiveattitudeonly · 22/09/2009 17:03

Oh no, sounds as if there are lots of poorly feeling people out there. Hope you, or poorly DCs feel better soon.

It surprised me how much you can actually do in a very short amount of time! I managed to get everything done and even managed to sort out the inferno in the hallway, too. The stupid bloomin woman did not turn up on time and when I phoned to find out where she was she had put the appointment time down wrong. So after running round like a lunatic, I could have done it without the panic!
Meeting then went well and what I had worried about is not going to happen, so huge sigh of relief!

No housework for me this evening as I am looking after my friends 5 year old DS from hell. Wine is in the fridge for the second he goes home! BUT I WILL make sure dishwasher is loaded and turned on before I go to bed.

Have a good evening everyone and much love to CTGH.

walkthedinosaur · 22/09/2009 17:37

Sickness in the dinosaur house as well today, me and DS2 throwing up all night.

Last night went well though, cleaned the hotspot which is the top of the chest of drawers in my bedroom, might be an idea to dust it at some point, but hey baby steps right! Also was bored of it by the time I'd chucked in cupboard tidied it all away.

When laid on the settee dying this morning I was at eye level with the French doors and noticed they looked a bit of state so ended up giving them and then the window sills a wash down.

Can't see me doing an afternoon routine, I think that's what I would call my evening routine, by the time I've done homework, made dinner, done mum stuff and got the DC's to bed, that's when I tidy round, don't have time during the day because I'm usually working.

I haven't done a control journal either, that just seems a bit too anal for me, I like to think of myself as a free spirit when it comes to housework (and I love lists/routines so am very good at storing them in my head)

Hope everyone is feeling better tomorrow.

havingagiraffe · 22/09/2009 18:16

Hope all the bugs are quick and not too horrible. Get well soon.

I am doing OK, never seem to get to the 15 min decluttering but no need to go crazy hey?

PA I HATE when I don't turn dw/wm on and i do it ALOT. lol at DH being included as a DC.

Fruitstick Yes I am trying to 'fly' with a baby, although I only have one DC and struggle so hats off to the rest of you. I keep telling myself not to get annoyed when he wants to play and I am in the middle of something - I mean he's 5 months and doesn't give a stuff if the sink is shiny.

Thought that the laundry step was rubbish as thought it was a bit obvious but once again the fat lady was right. Usually the load gets on and out and taken in and dumped in the dining room for days but yesterday I took straight upstairs put away the non-ironing and put the rest with my ironing pile and it was so much better!

Welcome to new 'flyers' - I am trying the journal and are currently reserving judgement.

snorkie · 22/09/2009 19:44

I had dd home sick with me today too. Hope these bugs don't last long too.

elliepac · 22/09/2009 19:47

Oh my lordy, i think having clean houses is making us all ill. Get better soon to all of you that are poorly or have poorly DC's. And thanks fruitstick for posting the steps.

Welcome to Rhian and Hulla.

This morning I tried to be you PA having read your inspirational post about what you did the other morning. I thought, I can do that, well, have discovered, I can't. I cleared surfaces, put a load of washing on and.....nothing else

Tonight I have:-

Sorted some washing
Tidied living room
Washed up/cleared kitchen
Tidied dining room
Cried at Neighbours

I too have not done the journal although I suspect I really should because I can't even remember what I am supposed to be doing apart from shining the sink!

Enjoy the wine pa and remember to put the dishwasher on

optimisticmumma · 22/09/2009 19:53

Hi all.

Not done much today as I am K*ered after work!

PA- hope meeting went well sounds like it!

CTGH and Dinosaur - sorry to her you are ill/dealing with ill!

fruitstick - I take my hat off to all you great mums with littlies. If it makes you feel any better it wasn't until my youngest was at school that a friend remarked on how together my house looked Have to say though I think this would have made me feel more in control. Now I am trying to get my 3 teenagers ( well youngest is 13 in Dec) to keep the place clear too!!

Today I have -
made tea (usually something instant on a work day but not today )
done morning routine
cleared out a bag of paperwork
cleared up after supper
got in washing

Am feeling extremely smug!!

I am also confused re. control journal and am too feeling too rebellious to do it ( a bit stepfordwives for me!)but am happy to change my mind.

Does flylady ever iron do you think or does she just use a dryer all the time???

See you all tomorrow

Hey all

I just fly (groan) in and out of this thread as I have been flying for a few years now- sometimes higher than others and some months like August I virtually crash landed!!

I do have a combined control journal/ office in a bag, and it IS useful, honestly. But like everything else it takes a while to get to grips with and it doesnt matter if you dont do it first month, especially if you are planning to hang around and repeat the baby steps once or twice. If anyone wants copies of any sections of mine please do ask!!

I have to say it took me 2.5 years before I got the hang of the swish & swipe, but now I am amazed by it and cant believe I didnt do it sooner! The best use of 45 seconds of my day!!

Hope everyone and their DCs get well soon

MiniMarmite · 22/09/2009 20:06

I absolutely need flylady training (counselling, help etc). Just found out I'm pregnant on the day before I return to work from maternity leave. Our house is too small for 4 of us but we can't move at the moment (DH looking for new job at unknown location) so I have 7 months to get house minimalist enough for us by having major clear out, run day to day house and get into job again before leaving.

blissa · 22/09/2009 20:50

Just flying in quickly, have briefly skimmed the last posts and see that lots of you are poorly. I hope you all feel better soon and ctgh I hope it isn't pig flu.

Had a manic couple of days and so haven't done much flying and not been able to get on the computer. House is gradually accumulating clutter again so I will return properly tomorrow and get back on track.

fruitstick · 23/09/2009 09:10

Baby has a cold too and I'm bracing myself for us all to be snivelling by Friday.

However, have managed to do my ENTIRE morning routine before nursery run this morning which was made much easier by also laying out DSs clothes and shoes for them the night before too.

Just need to put the washing away and then it's downhill from here on in

Hope you all start to feel better soon

minimarmite welcome and congratulations! Certainly go easy on yourself in your delicate condition. Maybe give DH a list [grin}

snorkie · 23/09/2009 10:00

todays step If anyone has any ideas for the sort of things that ought to be in the afternoon routine do say. Mine is usually something along the lines of: collect kids from school, cook tea, crash out.

dd is back at school today, but dh is home sick.

blissa · 23/09/2009 11:43

That sounds just like my afternoon routine snorkie!

Feeling a bit crappy today but have managed 2 loads of washing- 1 was ds's bedding as he wet the bed for the second night running. Popped into town to pick up some presents as dd2 and ds both have parties this week and then home to tidy the livingroom, wash up and mop the floor.

Have to pick up ds soon then get some potatoes and veg for the beef stew we're having for dinner.

Hope baby feels better soon fruitstick

deepdarkwood · 23/09/2009 12:05

hello all - no tiem to catch up on all the gossip - just checking in to hang my head in shame. Busy at work + colds all round = not good for flying!
Had a catch up last night & managed my morning routine this morning, but feeling under-motivated, so if you see me anywhere on mn today, feel free to kick me off & send me to do housework

MiniMarmite · 23/09/2009 13:03

Thanks Fruitstick - early days yet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I'm sure giving DH a list will help

Right so, cheated a bit because cleaners came today.

Shopping - done

Now have to:

Clear away lunch things
Prepare dinner for tonight
Put beans to soak for tomorrow dinner
Put market shopping away
take DS swimming

load dishwasher, tidy kitchen
put washing on and hang out to dry
make decluttering plan with DH
ironing
Prep DS lunch for tomorrow and pack nursery bag
put out breakfast things for the morning
Be in bed by 11

So, I make a list and then go and do it without making a fuss. Is that how it works?!

optimisticmumma · 23/09/2009 13:07

Sounds like mine too Snorkie only that it is different every afternoon here!

Sorry baby is poorly Fruitstick

I have 14 y o DD here too today!
So far though I have completely sorted out DS1 bedroom. Have to brace myself for a bit of a shout later as he tells me not to touch his stuff ( he's 17), but it was getting to the point of no return.......you know the usual teenage horrors i won't go into detail!!
Contemplating having another shower it was so bad!
