Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

Countingthegreyhairs -
Just wanted to say thanks for keeping this thread going and keeping everyone on the proverbial straight and narrow!

It has motivated me to get going on jobs which I'd previously put off.

stepaway · 18/09/2009 09:53

mygoodmorning
glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. hope your day goes well

positiveattitudeonly · 18/09/2009 09:55

Hi all,

Love the list OM. Fancy that one myself!

Hope you are 100% fit soon, MGM. Sorry you have been poorly.

Well, I am officially obsessed! This morning I have:
Made bed
Swished and swiped
Cleaned sink
Emptied washing machine
Put load of washing in
Emptied dishwasher onto kitchen tops due to lack of time to put away
Loaded breakfast things
Cleaned kitchen surfaces.

Then I got into the car for work and just had to go back into the kitchen and put away the clean stuff on the tops! I just could not go to work leaving it like that! What is wrong with me?? A few weeks ago it would have been a miracle if I had done half of that and if you could actually see any kitchen worktop before I ran out to work!! A moment of insanity, but late for work!

Hope you all have a good weekend.

optimisticmumma · 18/09/2009 10:44

Well done PAO!!

Glad you're feeling better MGM.

Am quite far down my real list and nowhere on the fantasy one!!

See you all laterx

havingagiraffe · 18/09/2009 10:48

Wow positive that is so impressive. It is a little worrying how obsessed we are becoming isn't it?

Optimistic I think I prefer your second list please - if wishing made it so.

I was up at stupid o'clock today as DS just would not go back to sleep after 5am so I eventually gave in and got up. Really should've achieved more by now but haven't done too bad

So far

Made bed
Got dressed
Swish and swipe
loaded dw - which is now on
Made a cake (yes an actual homemade proper cake!)

Still to do

Shine sink
Clean kitchen
Dust lounge (it's so thick I can't see the TV)
Hotspots
15 min declutter
Sort some books and DVD's to sell at Macmillan coffee morning.
Have a nap (I'm not kidding)

deepdarkwood · 18/09/2009 11:15

OM,you're not seeing Pierce for cocktails too? Fabulous, I'll see you there

Am also feeling very on top of the day - before school I:

  • made beds
  • emptied dishwasher & refilled
  • swished & swiped
  • did hotspot
  • AND sent some work emails
ChairmumMiaow · 18/09/2009 12:38

We had a bad night with DS last night and I am knackered so I am not doing anything else today.

However the sink was shiny last night and as DS is a pretty tidy person generally, the house isn't looking too bad overall, because I've been doing little bits at a time. I shall just enjoy DS's nap and look forward to getting taken out to dinner tonight.

blissa · 18/09/2009 13:46

Very impressed POA well done!

Glad you are feeling better MGM.

Love the list optimistic! Mine would be:

Get cleaner to totally blitz the place.
Get PA to do the Tesco shop.
Have Gordon Ramsey come and make dinner

And back to reality...

Kitchen is looking ok, there is a load on the line. Have been in town all morning so not got anything done. Ds has his new bed and so will need to sort out his room later.

Shoppingveggie · 18/09/2009 14:43

Hello (gingerly sneeks in, feeling very guilty)

I have just quickly glanced through the posts and saw the come back shoppingveggie from CTGH - thank you, you are doing a great job!

Although I have not posted, and not really been on MN alot, I have tried to keep up the basics, but I think I need to read the threads again starting from the control journal, thats where I went AWOL.

Will try and catch up over the weekend, or else I may just start on the fly of the day.

Doing car boot this weekend, weather permitting, so that should be one hell of a fling boogie!

Well done to all of you who have kept this up - I will get there!

tibni · 18/09/2009 15:12

Hello all,

Still just about keeping up - new puppy very time consuming but gorgeous.

Loft still only 75% clear due to said puppy but sent 10 bags full to charity shop today so pleased with that.

Will try and catch up a bit over the weekend.

My friend has e mailed to say she is buying me the organised mum life book diary so I will let you know if it is any good after my birthday.

Countingthegreyhairs · 18/09/2009 16:56

Ahh it's so nice to check back in here of an afternoon and see everyone doing so brilliantly

Thank you for your kind words ShoppingVeggie and Stepaway - much appreciated - believe me though, it is a very good discipline for me to post the steps.

Don't feel guilty ShoppingVeggie - tis brilliant you have kept up - hope the weather holds for your boot sale!

Well done on your 10 charity bags Tibni

LOL at your list Blissa (especially Gordon cooking supper). Mine would be get chauffeur to pick me up and do the school run, and all the round trips to piano, ballet and horse-riding lessons ad infinitum & forever more amen...

Well done PA! Wow! That's impressive! You are definitely on a roll!

Hope you have better night tonight ChairmumM

Save me a cake and a cocktail please HavingaG and DeepDark! (Congrats on your progress today)

Hello to Optimistic!! Send my love to Pierce!

Glad you are feeling better MGM!

Keep going everyone (and hi to anyone I have missed)

Remember completing just one of the less demanding steps is better than nothing at all ..and.it doesn't have to be done perfectly ...

Here's the step for tomorrow:

step for Saturday 19th September - another catch up day!

Have a great weekend everyone!

And here's Sunday's (just in case I don't get to it)

Step for Sunday 20th September - an important one about including laundry in the routines

positiveattitudeonly · 18/09/2009 19:23

I feel I must clear something up before there is any confusion. Sometimes my Nickname is shortened to PA. I am not the PA who is coming to do your Tesco shopping Blissa, but I could be persuaded to come and do some paperwork for you OM, if Pierce is lurking at your place, for a hefty fee of course!! - although have to confess my tax return is STILL sat in my "To do ASAP" tray, so maybe I could just come and shine your sink as a compromise???

Decided to have a good daughter moment (fairly rare ) today and take my elderly parents for lunch. DM has dementia and you just keep on having the same conversation like a stuck record, then I was embarrassed when a dear friend of theirs (for 30 years) came to say "hello" and mum didn't even recognise her, or remember that her DH had died a few weeks ago. Came home and have done no housework since as I felt I was in dire need of a very large drink a sit down to recover! Love them dearly, but very hard work.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

elliepac · 18/09/2009 19:34

Bonjourno all.

Well, I have had an unbelievably shitty day. Do not include wine in the evening routine as I did last night because drinking on a school night does not work. All it does do is make you late for work, forget to give your DC's breakfast (and you only realise when childminder mentions how hungry they both were this morning), put you in a crappy mood at work so you shout at all your pupils (and unfortunately some of them shout back), and not only not keep your sink shiny but do everything physically possible to make it as unshiny as possible. .

You are all doing absolutely fantastically and am feeling very proud of you all.

Countingthegreyhairs · 18/09/2009 19:53

Ditto Elliepac! Everyone should be VERY proud of themselves on here.

Have another glass tonight, you deserve it after today ...

That sounds tough PA. My fil has vascular dementia so I know how hard it can be ...

That is some list Early - well done! Are you sure you are not trying to "swish and swipe" too thoroughly? Keep cleaning items to hand IN the bathroom (concealed somewhere if you don't like them on display) and just do a quick swish of sink, buff with old towel, and wipe around of loo (I use those anti-bacterial throwaway wipe things). Pick up towels and you are away ... 5- mins literally ...

Carry on everyone!
Similarly - with kitchen floor - we will get to it once we start Zone cleaning but in the meantime, why not just put the timer on for 10 mins and clean the kitchen floor as isolated task? Doesn't have to be done perfectly. Just sweep and then mop down middle bit. Done. (This is the Flylady way, incidentally, to overcome our perfectionist tendencies. We will get to 'thorough' cleaning later when we tackle zones and in the meantime, you can relax, because you know that zone will be coming up on a regular basis.)

So glad your DH is doing better and hope dd manages to bounce back quickly ...

OP posts:
Countingthegreyhairs · 18/09/2009 19:55

um, that 'carry on everyone' was meant to be at end of post, not in the middle!

OP posts:
blissa · 18/09/2009 20:09

POA go on you know you want to! Gordon will cook you dinner afterwards and there's a glass of wine in it for you. That's was lovely of you to take your parents out. My nan had dementia, it is tough going.

Do they want his INR at 2.5 early? If so that is fantastic, mine hardly ever got near it!

Everybody has done really well today!

I have decluttered, tidied and hoovered ds's room, all thanks to him going into a big bed tonight. His room is tiny, but now looks lovely. I've also hoovered upstairs and down. Must swish n swipe the bathroom tomorrow and go shopping. And now for a glass of wine

positiveattitudeonly · 18/09/2009 20:13

Thanks for the offer Blissa, but I could't put up with his swearing. I'd end up having an enormous row with him and getting on my soapbox!!!

Enjoy the wine. I am jealous, I have to collect DD2 from work at 10.30, so can't drink til after then and am usually just redy to flop in bed by the time I get home!!

blissa · 18/09/2009 20:19

Oh well worth a try! Tesco on a saturday morning + 2 dcs = not fun.

I can't drink too much tonight as dd1 has to be at ballet at 9am. It's great being an unpaid taxi isn't it!

fruitstick · 18/09/2009 20:25

Thank goodness it's Friday. The boys are asleep and DH is in the kitchen cooking dinner.

I have been a dynamo today and have
done all the morning stuff
washed nappies
plus another load

negotiated a new house to rent (plus rent reduction )
found a childminder for when I go back to work
organised removal quotes
swept kitchen floor and hoovered downstairs
taken DS1 to swimming lesson
Sainsburys
huge batch of puree for DS2

I move in 3 weeks so really need to up my decluttering!!!!

Bigboots · 18/09/2009 23:10

Ok. Have dragged myself back, feeling like everything has gone to pot, although strangely have become quite obsessive about beds being made in the mornings (hmm) so at least that's stuck. I WILL get back on track (honest).(blush)

Bigboots · 18/09/2009 23:11

Oops - wrong brackets

elliepac · 19/09/2009 08:15

Morning.

I resisted the wine last night (mainly because I fell asleep on sofa halfway through Strictly due to the night before's excesses!) so am up and feeling perky this morning and ready to fly!

blissa am feeling your pain about the Tesco trip. I also have to negotiate Tesco today with 2 DC's. DD not too bad as contained in trolley but DS (6) is another matter entirely, can I have this, can i have that, i'm bored. Makes me irritated just thinking of it!

fruitstick wow what a day you had yesterday. Well done you!

early glad your DH is doing well and hope DD is feeling better soon. It's rotten when they are ill, for all concerned.

PA definitely a good daughter moment, hope you've recovered.

Should have done this round-up last night but was too tired

Today, I am intending (note the use of the word intending, just in case I don't I can say I was only intending) to do everything that should be in my routine. It is my Mum's 60th in a few weeks and my DSis and I are taking the kids to have their photos taken as a present, just praying that DD(19mths) is in a good mood! Have also got to try and think of something lovely to do for Mum next week as it is the first anniversary of the death of my stepdad, and then 2 weeks later it is the 9th anniversary of her losing my dad so a tough few weeks to come and want to do something to cheer her up. Any ideas because I am stuck!

Must go now. Have got to iron DC's clothes for the photos. Have a good day y'all.

havingagiraffe · 19/09/2009 08:18

Didn't end up having a successful day yesterday as DS was having a very difficult day. Each time he went for a nap I would think great a couple of hours to do stuff and have a nap and he would wake up crying after 30mins. Eventually had to let him sleep in my arms while I watched TV - oh dear The lovely thing about the flying is that I can have a dreadful day and the house doesn't look a complete tip and is easy to get back on top off - still left sink shiny last night and got my clothes out for today.

Today I have a break so more baking and some flying is in order.

Good tip about kitchen floor CTGH as the rest of the kitchen is kept pretty smart with the whole sink shining at end of day as I usually give the surfaces a wipe.

Some impressive lists from yesterday Fruitstick am particularly impressed with yours - did you also shine your halo as well as you sink.

Have a good day everyone
