Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

hello all.

Have had quite a successful day today. I have managed to:-

Shine sink
get dressed
clean kitchen
clean dining room
put out hotspot in hallway
done and dried 3 loads of washing
clean bathroom
tidy living room
go to tesco for food

Could have done more because that was all this morning however, like you positive, have spent the afternoon with the DC's in the garden with paddling pool etc. making the most of this beautiful sunshine so please don't feel guilty. As tibni says some things are more important . Am out all day tomorrow at karate with DS so won't be doing much then.

Tibni, would love to be able to answer your question because i am not entirely sure what one is sorry.

Didn't get back from water polo tournament until 1.30am this morning - consequently bed time routine went to pot, everything's a mess & I'm really tired today. Makes me realise that although the house is still largely a state, at least I'm on top of bits of it (usually).

positiveattitudeonly · 13/09/2009 10:04

tbni - I have not got a clue about those books. I am way too disorganised for one of those!!

ANyway, today has started quite well.

Sink is now smiling (donr thi morning, not last night!
Two loads of washing already on the line.
Third load is in the washing machine.
Dishwasher is on.
I'm showered and ready for the rest of the day.

It certainly seems to have worked for me to have a blitz this morning and I do feel that I am back on the babystep track now.

I ma not going to put any goals for today, so that I don't then fail and feel guilty. Whatever more I get done is a bonus.

Enjoy the weekend sunshine everyone!

No sunshine here today here either early, in fact after yesterday it feels positively arctic.

Have done absolutely nothing today really apart from shine sink, quick tidy and prepare for the morning with uniforms etc. On a postive note however DS gained his orange belt in karate ! Go DS! So going on early's qualifying criteria i have also won today!

Work tomorrow

positiveattitudeonly · 13/09/2009 22:01

I've won too. AND I have acheived all my goals for today.

deepdarkwood · 13/09/2009 22:09

glad youd dh is feeling batter, early ... and another one who has no idea on the organiksed mum stuff (do you think you'[re asking the wrong people/ )

Been away for the weekend, but dh has done well and it's not too much like carnage - managed to clear out the towels cupboard & recycle/freecycle/put prices on for Nearly new Sales, and uniform ready for dd's settling in play at nursery tomorrow (when did my baby get big enough for school nursery???)

GoldenSnitch · 14/09/2009 07:14

Had a weekend off due to having a couple of girlfriends visiting...

Back to it this morning, although I've forgotten what number day we're on!

Shoppingveggie · 14/09/2009 10:24

Not been on this thread for a while - completely lost my way - not even got time to read and get motivated again as I have got to be at work in half an hour, but will try and get on later

Well done to all of you who are flying!

blissa · 14/09/2009 11:36

Well done to your ds elliepac!

You all sound like you've had lovely weekends.

I managed a load of washing yesterday- I had to after finding loads of clothes on my bedroom floor after my 10 minute blast in there on Saturday! I don't even know if it was all dirty, but had lain around for so long I thought I'd better wash it all
And I cooked a roast- that's enough for a sunday.

Today I've washed 2 loads. That's about it. Not feeling very motivated although I really should hoover.

I've heard of the Organised Mum tibni. I am probably wrong but maybe the Life one is just for her and the Family one is like one of the callenders taht has a column for each family member? Like I say I am probably wrong!

Hope everyone is having a good day

fruitstick · 14/09/2009 13:25

Afternoon all. We have spent a night away from DCs at a wedding and left my (47year old) brother and niece in charge.

MY SINK WAS NOT SHINY

Have spent the day reassembling my house but feeling all the better for a break.

Floor mopped, nappies washed, top drawer of clothes decluttered (may take a while ) been for a swim.

Tibni my new life diary has just arrived and I am very excited. I had one in january but it's so nice to get a new one in September.

The life diary is a normal week to view page with added space for notes, lists etc. The family book is more of a column form so every family member has their own column. I think this is more useful if you have older children who all have their different timetable of events. My DCs appointments are still my appointments iyswim so the life one works very well.

I also have a family planner calendar which I also use as a menu planner for the week (although we rarely stick to it).

Can I just check what I'm supposed to have in my control journal so far.

I have:
morning - get dressed, read reminders (although I don't have any) 2 mins hotspots
evening - shine sink, hotspots, lay out clothes for morning.

Have I missed anything?

snorkie · 14/09/2009 16:07

fruitstick, your routines are quite minimalist. You can have some extra stuff if you need to or leave them as they are if that works for you. Try not to add too much at once though.

Mine are (at the moment):

morning:
get dressed,
swish & swipe,
hang out washing,
empty dishwasher,
2 mins hotspots,
5 mins declutter.

evening:
shine sink,
set dishwasher,
set washing machine,
2 mins hotspots,
put clothes away.

tibni · 14/09/2009 16:20

Thanks Fruitstick - I have requested the life one for my birthday so fingers crossed I get it.

Spent most the day up the loft - about half cleared now. Trying not to clutter house too much!

Ordered new furniture for the sitting room - Coffee table, lamp table and TV unit in solid oak. My old table was my ds portage / play theray / speech therapy table and is so battered - it has bite marks from ds! We are having new puppy wednesday; it will have to have escort to enter sitting room! LOL

optimisticmumma · 14/09/2009 18:01

Hi all. Have been at work today and just got in, so just flying past. I am pleased though that my sink is still shining and what a difference that seems to make to the kitchen . Mornings are less stressful too.
Keep up the good work everyone

elliepac · 14/09/2009 19:39

Evening all, just a quick check in as have a pile of marking to do. Still haven't quite caught up after last week's debacle but am trying not to let that happen this week.

You all sound like you are doing great, snorkie i am particularly impressed.

I am just about managing to do the following each day:-
Keeping my sink shiny
Hotspotting for 2 mins
LOad of washing a day
Keep downstairs tidy
Put clothes out for all every evening
get all book bags etc ready the night before.

Have now got journal but haven't got anything in it yet.

Snorkie, have I missed something, what is swish and swipe?

The only other thing that sems to disturb me is that I never seem to get upstairs. DOwnstairs isn't looking too bad barring the skirting boards (can't even remember the last time I did them ) and some hotspots but upstairs is another story. I never quite seem to get round to it apart from the bathroom. What do I do oh fliers?

elliepac · 14/09/2009 19:41

Oh and thank you for your kind words about DS's orange belt. He didn't get it last time so he was really pleased with himself...even slept with his medal next to him

stepaway · 14/09/2009 20:32

you are all doing really well and it has spurred me into action of my own!

So far I have been managing to:

  • keep my sink shiny
  • keep living room and dining room clutter-free
  • do at least 1 load of laundry a day, making sure to wash/dry/put away.
  • get up early enough in the morning to get through the morning routine without it being manic...

Today I also did one of the Fly 'missions' from last week - cleaning the kitchen lights and above kitchen cupboards.

deepdarkwood · 14/09/2009 22:27

lol, without counting keeping us in order, I suspect we're not adding any steps are we?

Am keeping up - & noticing that things are calmer. I've added 15 mins tidying before bed into my evening routine, and am trying to remember the other key flybaby steps without wandering into the fat fairies site

I suspect that we'll soon be into swishing & swiping (do actually still do that from last failed flylady attempt) & then the dreaded home blessing hour (bloody ton of bricks time

positiveattitudeonly · 15/09/2009 07:12

Hi all,

In CTGH absence I have taken the liberty of posting the last few days notes and the one for today.
Saturday's

Sunday's

Yesterday's

TODAY!

I am not sure when it was last posted, but I hope this covers it. I will carry on until CTGH returns. I hope she is ok.

Anyway, I don't think we have missed a great deal by the look of them, so please don't panic.
Everyone is doing realy well and many of you are doing lots more than the baby steps! WELL DONE!

Swish & swipe is a baby step that will be added soon (some, who have done this before are obviously remembering the good ones to do!!) It is basically a very quick swish and swipe of the bathroom first thing in the morning.
I have to say, I did think this was a good step, but if I do it here first thing in the morning, by the time I head off for work, after 4 teenage girls, one DH shaving and a teenage boy have spent copious amounts of time in there, spraying, geling, washing, shaving all sorts of places then the family bathroom looks as if it has not been cleaned for a month, so I do this step AFTER the rest of the morning routine!

Anyway, all have a good day.

fruitstick · 15/09/2009 08:35

I do hope we've all ordered one of these

This morning
failed to get dressed before going downstairs as DH managed to smash 2 plates and a glass whilst making the tea
Unloaded dishwasher and washing machine

Was thrilled to discover that I have already made the bed this morning so that's today's task done .

We need to move out of our house (rented) in about 6 weeks or possibly 2!! so I need to get on with the decluttering pretty sharpish.

Today DS1's toys.

Good luck one and all.

walkthedinosaur · 15/09/2009 08:50

Well I've fallen off the wagon a little, have been stupidly busy with work for the last few days and as I work from home everything has fallen by the by - nothing seems to be looking worse if you know what I mean but nothing is better. Tried to make myself feel better last night by cleaning the kitchen, which is now sparkling, but it wasn't good for me because rather than being tired at bed time the adrenaline was going so I've had about 3 hours sleep all night - have parents night tonight too, all in French, so I doubt I'll be able to understand a word I'll be so tired.

I am finding that having clothes etc laid out the night before is a good idea, even the DC's are getting into that one and it worked well this morning, DC's out of bed at 7.00, fed and washed and out the door by 7.30 not bad going at all.

Right am waiting for today's work to arrive so I think I'll sweep and mop the stairs and hallway - I have a babysitter for tonight so the house has got to be half decent for when she's here.

Hope everyone has a good day.

blissa · 15/09/2009 10:58

Thanks for that POA, I hope Ctgh is ok and comes back soon.

Beds are made, there is one load on the line but it looks like I might have to leg it out there to get it in any minute and I have spent 15 minutes in my room decluttering. Am very at the amount of empty boxes, labels and paper I have taken out to the recycling bin!

Still need to hoover. That's probably all I will manage today as I kept ds off pre-school today as he seems to be developing a cold.

havingagiraffe · 15/09/2009 11:45

That sounds like pretty good going Blissa.

Am also pleased at the making the bed rule as I actually do that anyway so nothing extra for me today. Still have yet to catch up with all the others though.

Didn't really feel like doing much today but DS is asleep and I've done a few bits - but haven't shined my sink as I feel like I do it about 50 times a day and it's starting to annoy me!!

Oh - time's up - baby awake and hungry!

Love the link fruitstick, haven't ordered but did find myself pushing the pram up and down the pavement outside my house in my slippers and A PINNY! Thought I might finish the look with some rollers in my hair.

snorkie · 15/09/2009 12:17

I fell off the wagon last night & just crashed without any evening routine. Have managed to catch up mostly this morning (except washing, but as it's chucking it down, have decided not to do a load today).

Yes I was getting ahead with swish and swipe elliepac (it arrives officially at day 24) and in fact laundry doesn't arrive officially until day 20 either (but it didn't make sense to do no laundry for nearly 3 weeks!). I have always tended to set a load to run overnight & hang out in the morning, so it naturally fell in the routines early. Ditto the dishwasher. With the swish & swipe I just picked it out as something that looked particularly useful when reading the flightplan e-mails, so incorporated that early too. I have to say, it's made a big difference to our bathroom, but I agree with positive, that after the rest of the family have been through works best. Here I have to confess that I am not a good flybaby over getting up times - I'm nearly always the last up in the mornings (weekdays at least), so as I am last through the bathroom in any case & I do it then.
