Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

thanks poa. Hope you're OK Counting

And pissing it down raining here too, so no washing today.
Everything else seems to be going bizarrely smoothly. So far...
Dd's first proper session at nursery this moring, so am in mourning for my children's babyhood today - she had a complete ball & is totally ready for it. In fact, she is a bit unimpressed that she has to go back tomorrow, as she thinks she'd like to do reception, and then year one next week...

And lol out havingagiraffes cool new makeover

Hello everyone - so sorry for sudden absence - had totally mad weekend followed by elderly parent emergency necessitating an unplanned flit to UK Sunday night ....resolved happily for now ...until next emergency (stubborn 83 yr old mother syndrome)

Thank you all for kind wishes and to PA for stepping in to the breach without warning!!

Apologies if my absence slowed anyone up: I did post steps for Sat 12th and Sat 13th earlier (see Fri 11th 17.00:12) but this thread is moving so fast that it was very difficult to spot!

PA has kindly filled you in for yesterday and today so step for tomorrow right here:

Step for Wednesday 16th September - I am personally going to treat this as a catch up day but you could just take 2 mins to check out a bit of the indoctrination advice on Flylady website if you are feeling keen!!

So sorry again for absence and apologies not to respond to individual postings - will catch up with thread tomorrow - my house has exploded in my absence!!

Take care everyone - judging from brief glance - you are all soaring high!

Hello everyone, here is my daily 'i've failed' check in .

All I seem to be doing is maintaining the status quo not actually making any progress . ALthough am liking today's step because that is something that actually takes very little time to do and something that DS does for himself. Although I do have a problem sometimes in that DH is still in bed when I get out being lazy sleeping.

Thanks PA for keeping us all in check and welcome back CTGH. Sounds like you've had a rather hectic few days and need some serious relaxation time. Hope the elderly parent is ok.

Good Luck with the London trip planning early, sounds like a tricky job.

Snorkie, don't worry about falling off, you are a lifetime ahead of me so you've probable re-overtaken me

at fruitstick's link. V sexy, I might just go and order one now. This was bettered only by the mental images that havingagiraffe created .

Anyway am off to watch holby city
fly.

GoldenSnitch · 15/09/2009 20:24

Feel like I'm getting very behind. No idea where I'm supposed to be on the babysteps!

House it tidy though so I'm doing something right

elliepac · 15/09/2009 20:32

Don't be sad goldensnitch. I have spent the last two weeks behind and am still not caught up. If your house is tidy you are one-up on me. So fret yet not, this is why we are doing babysteps (and why I will bestarting off all over again as you lot go flying off into the sunset)

positiveattitudeonly · 16/09/2009 07:32

Morning all.

Have you all ordered one of those luscious things then that fruit "advertised"??? My only question is why???? What on earth has that got to do with getting your house tidy? Or anything else in life for that matter. Also, if the woman that works in the office is so besotted with something so horrendous it is seriously worrying as we are all following this brainwashing fat fairy!!!!!

Today I seriously have to put housework on the back burner as I have been so obsessed concerned about it that I have realised that other things in life are being left! So today I catch up on all sorts of things like trip to the post office, to the sorting office, to the supermarket, to staples, electrical supplies, loads of printing stuff off at work, catch up on paperwork here.........

Spinning plates comes to mind, and I think I need to respin others today before they crash!!

Off now. Have a good day all and don't forget to order your denim waistcoats!!

GoldenSnitch · 16/09/2009 07:36

Thanks Elliepac.

House is genrally tidy - except for my room but I can't do anything about that yet - and the oven is sparkling inside for the first time since we bought it I think!

Have a feeling that has more to do with being 25 weeks pregnant and having a severe case of nesting than any FLYing though.

Need to get the FLYing sorted so it stays this noce once baby arrives!

Have gotten up and made all beds this morning, gotten dressed and had breakfast. Half unloaded the dishwasher while I waited for the toast....

Bit of Mumsnet then I'll find something else to clean before toddler group

walkthedinosaur · 16/09/2009 09:24

Morning all,

Started off well this morning sink is shiny, dishwasher loaded etc.

Started tackling the hotspot that is my bookshelf, have found six months worth of bank statements to file and two unpaid bills (eek). DH phoned in the middle of this and when I mentioned to him I was tackling one of my hotspots for some very strange reason he thought it meant I was waxing my bikini line! I'm sure that says something about our marriage but I'm not quite sure what.

Anyhow disaster has struck, the dining room door has become stuck I have no idea how, but it ended up with DS1 and his French teacher being stuck in the dining room and me and DS2 looking in at them from the hallway and the damn door just won't open. Thank goodness for the kitchen door or they would have had to crawl out through the window. The man can't come and fix it till 7.30 tonight, so unless I wander all the way round the outside of my house I can't get access to my kitchen, utility room or dining room - so that may put an end to the DC's endless snacking and my coffee addiction.

Still at least the kitchen isn't going to get messed up today

tibni · 16/09/2009 09:38

LOL bikini line and hot spot! I would take that as a complement.

Well today is "p day" and we are off to get our yellow lab in about an hour - im very excited.

House is suffering a bit with the loft clearing. Some of the items will go back up but for now are making a mess of my study.

Found some old photos of me and ds (ASD) is convinced they are of his sister. I also found my late dads RAF kit bag from when he did national service - lost dad 6 years ago and although I still miss him I can look back with love rather than pain.

Hope you all have a good day.

snorkie · 16/09/2009 10:03

elliepac, I really don't think I'm a lifetime ahead of you. Didn't you say your house is tidy? Mine is a pigsty! I'm not too bad at doing the day to day stuff like laundry, but progress on actually clearing any of the surfaces is very slow indeed. My biggest trouble is I hate to throw stuff out & I have far too much junk everywhere.

Anyway, sink is shiny, washing out, bed made & dishwasher empty.

I will do 5 mins decluttering next, it will hardly make any difference but is a small step in the right direction.

deepdarkwood · 16/09/2009 10:38

elliepac if your house is clean you are CERTAINLY not behind ... in fact I suspect you should be running the thread
Little steps, remember, little steps...

And very impressed with your cooker, golden snitch ... fancy doing mine (which I think has been cleaned once she we moved in here, 5 years ago [shame] [shame]

Everything on track today - need to get the washing out then steel myself for 15 mins decluttering...

GoldenSnitch · 16/09/2009 12:38

Don't be too impressed deepdarkwood Oven is just approaching it's first birthday and has a handy function called "pyroclean" where it basically gets itself so hot, it turns all the grease into ash. All I had to do was wait till it cooled down and wipe it out with a damp cloth

The only elbow grease I had to employ was when cleaning the door (pyroclean doesn't seem to work on the glass) and the trays inside. Had to do those with elbow grease as I'm not comfortable with oven cleaner fumes while pregnant but I was hardly on my knees inside the oven for hours!

The microwave I did with some lemon and vinegar in a bowl to loosen the yuck.

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/09/2009 14:44

Hello everyone

I'm come to (gently) crack the whip in a home-blessing love yourself kind of way (barf emoticon!!)

How is everyone doing?

Well done on your pregnancy and your shiny range of course GoldenSnitch I will keep very quiet on the subject of oven-cleaning [hangs head in shame ] I'm with DeepDarkWood on this one ...
suffice to say I have to disable the fire alarm and keep the kitchen door open whenever I am roasting a joint nowadays ...

Dreamteam huge pats on the back to you and thanks for the really useful control journal link which I've never seen before - I am really not qualified to be offering Flying advice . Thanks also for rest of your advice about zone cleaning and fling boogies. I aspire to get to that point!!

Glad to hear your dh is feeling a bit better Early and well done for keeping flying with everything else happening. Hope your trip to the smoke went well.

Yo Blissa you have done really well too - sounds like you really got to the bottom of the paperwork!

Elliepac I agree with DeepDark - you really SHOULD be running this thread (happy to hand over the reins emoticon!!) You have done really well and haven't failed at all. As you said yourself - the whole of the baby-step regime is a learning process in itself. Btw, if you are serious about re-doing the baby steps again when the others "graduate" then I think I will join you if I may. I have kept up so far (save for 2 days) but I don't really feel the habits are yet really ingrained in me. Is still huge effort. Let's decide at end of month!

Come back ShoppingVeggie - don't get despondent - and don't give up. Just jump in again at today's step. 'Tis never too late!

Hi tibni - hows your furry young 'un?
(I had a bit of a sniff when you mentioned your dad and the photos btw. Lost my dad 6 years ago too and this is the first year it has become a bit easier ) Well done on the loft clearing!

Congrats to you Snorkie - you seem to really have the hang of the little steps thing and don't worry - will we get to the more intensive decluttering in time - you are doing the right thing by keeping the daily tasks going. (I have exactly the same problem btw. If I stop to intensively clean the office then the washing or cooking suffers and vice versa.) Best to keep the washing and daily tasks going as you have done and then tackle the rest when all of that is under control. However, you raise a very good point about not being able to NOT do laundry for 3 weeks in to the baby-steps. What does Flylady think we do in that time? Dress our dc in pyjamas and wear paper knickers?

Well done to you DeepDarkWood - you are definitely on track and glad your dd's first days at nursery are going well

Hi to fellow caffeine addict Dinosaur - hope no-one else has got locked in your dining room and lol at hotspot = bikini line. I'm suddenly looking at the whole range of Flylady vocabulary in a completely different light I also have parents evening in French tonight ...

Fruitstick , think I'll pass on the vest dearie ...but thanks all the same ... pmsl at the fact they are prepared to post them to "international" destinations ....

OP posts:
optimisticmumma · 16/09/2009 14:55

LOL at hotspot/bikini line walkthe dinosaur .
Also lovely jacket/tabard thingy fruitstick Had a look round the virtual shop and think I may order the stuffed fat cuddly fairy!!!

Fell off wagon too since Friday. Weekend too nice to do housework and v. busy at work over last 2 days. Am catching up with all the steps today...

Counting - hope all is well with your Mum.
Goldensnitch - I think you can be regarded as on special measures as you are 25 weeks..

So far :
Have taken DS1 to osteopath so sort out back after rugby
Been to Tesco's ( major achievement as I have been putting off inevitable 'big shop' since term started )
Hung out washing
Made bed
Hotspots (flylady 'proper' ones!!)
Room rescue.

Still got to
Declutter

Is there anything else I'm supposed to do??

optimisticmumma · 16/09/2009 14:57

Hurray - finally mastered (nearly - sorry dinosaur) how to 'bold' a word!!!

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/09/2009 15:26

and "Hello" to everyone I have missed out

How are you doing Optimistic

Hello Having a giraffe! I also make beds without prompting but hate the way Flylady does it straight away after waking up - ugh - have to let mine air and do it mid-morning on non-work days and evening routine on work days [sorry for too much tedious info)

Meant to add PA that doesn't "identifying an errands day" pop up later on once we start planning the weekly routines? You probably know better than me, but I think the idea is that if everyone roughly plans their week out, it relieves the stress of feeling that you are behind or not keeping up because you know that the "errand day" to use that specific example, will automatically come up later on.

Hello to HelenHighwater, NannyNick, BigBoots , McDreamy, Broken Hearted, Mygoodmorning, HungrierHippo, KembleTwins, CJCregg, AvadaKedavra,StepAway if you are still following and to anyone else I have missed. Hope you are all OK.

Hope you are starting to feel better TeamEdward

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/09/2009 15:40

x posts Optimistic Well done! You are doing everything really well.

For anyone who wants a re-cap, look at steps 10 and 11 and they will tell you what we should be doing on a daily basis by now which is basically doing our morning and afternoon routines + decluttering for 15 mins a day + making our bed + putting our post in one place. At some point we should also have given some thought to our diary/calendar systems and started up our house control journal.

Please let me know if I have missed anything out!!

step 10 re-cap
step 11 re-cap

And finally,

here's tomorrow's step and it's one I struggle with but important I think:

Step for Thursday 17th September

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/09/2009 15:47

And finally, finally,

I must descend to the hell-hole that is my laundry room!!

See you tomorrow everyone!

OP posts:
GoldenSnitch · 16/09/2009 16:11

Yey! I can do that one easy! I've been going to bed at 10 for years

Just re-read the past couple of weeks baby steps to try to catch up. Bit confused though - what's the difference between a 5 Minute Room Rescue and 15 Minutes Decluttering?

Surely both are decluttering?

havingagiraffe · 16/09/2009 16:23

Thanks for the update CTGH I can now write in my book.

I also hate the 'moment your feet hit the floor' thing and also from what many of you have said I should be dressed before I even go downstairs to make my early morning cuppa - sod that I can't get dressed without a cup of tea first!

Today's step is no problem for me- I have a baby who isn't the best sleeper, in fact 10pm is a late night for me at the moment - Oh my glamorous life.

How do you all stop yourselves getting overly sensitive about your sinks?! I know flylady says a crossed word is no good and all that rubbish but I shined my sink before bed and when I came down this morning it looked a state! I can't get bent out of shape over a bloody sink, can I!

optimisticmumma · 16/09/2009 16:51

having a giraffe am with you on the cup of tea thing!Have a strange suspicion that this shiny sink malarky could end up giving us all late onset OCD!! As far as I'm concerned as long as there is nothing on sink/draining board that is OK. I am not, repeat not going to dry my sink after each use - it would be about 100 times a day.

Am going to struggle with the sleep one. Does flylady not have teenagers who need lifts late at night??

Countingthegreyhairs · 16/09/2009 19:00

Evidently not Optimistic, tis yet another Flylady flaw ...

She is clear about perfectionism and borderline OCD obsessing though ie absolutely no need for that level of detail with regard to sinks or anything else. This whole system is designed to break the cycle of being so stressed by the effort of running "perfectly" that we crash and burn and then mountains of chores build up again. We are supposed to do things imperfectly - but do them we must - every day.

I cannot function without my early morning swig of gin tea either

Will get back to you Snitch about the 5-min room rescue v 15 mins of decluttering question. My brain isn't functioning well tonight - must consult Flylady book for answer - but here's the embarrassing thing ...

I can't find it as it is lurking under one of the many piles of paper and junk festering in my office

OP posts:
Countingthegreyhairs · 16/09/2009 19:00

oops - meant to say -

running 'things' perfectly
