Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

Me and dh have a mini deep clean today so lots of outs that he didn't count. I threw out three hangers but tidied and cleaned a lot.

Sold some of dd new eith tag boots on Vinted. I need to catch up. Had such a hectic week last week but should be able to do more from now on I hope.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 21/03/2026 22:34

Two carrier bags of random crap paperwork into recycling. A boxfile of random paperwork to the shredding pile in the garage. Found the office floor after a year of boxes of paperwork hid it and will hoover tomorrow.

tested and threw about twenty biros.
(found my passport, had no idea it was in a box of random papers in the office, good job I wasn’t planning on going abroad).

A pair of very disreputable trainers in the bin.

Pigtailsandall · 22/03/2026 18:47

So. We have decided, after months of agonising, that we'll move this year, hopefully in time for the new school year, so I will need to get the whip cracking on decluttering.

House will go on market next week!

Won't have much time to declutter this week. But enjoy seeing how you're all getting on.

Good luck everyone!

Realise I havent been on these threads in a very long time. Just recommended a slob comes clean on another thread so decided to pop across.

Have I reached my self imposed goal of knowing what is in every cupboard and drawer? Not quite! Have I finally tackled all the lego? Also no! Is the house much better than it was? Absolutely!

I am focussing on upstairs study at the moment, would like to remove the built in open shelves and hang some pictures in the space that frees up.

CheesePlantFeet · 23/03/2026 09:05

Another week where the garden was more interesting! We did manage to repair and repaint the fence though so I'm feeling happy about that! I put my head up in the loft, felt overwhelmed and left it for next week. The DIY pile is done I think. Left to sort is a pile of kids stuff and a pile of unknown randomness from relatives. Both these piles intimidate me because they're huge and going to be hugely sentimental

Got rid of a scratched teflon pan, a top with a hole in it, and an old pair of spider infested boots I used for gardening with a hole in the sole to the bin. Also one of those over the door hooks to the charity shop pile

Total: 587

As expected, DH has been ill in bed all weekend, so there has been no chance to tackle anything upstairs.

There were also more ins this weekend:

  • Frame for a print that was a Xmas present (though now the print has been put in the frame, the two items are now one item…?)
  • 3 more pairs of leggings for DD (as she was happy with the first pack) and three vests.

Outs:

  • 3 outgrown pairs of leggings (and there could be a few more in the laundry)

On the plus side, I just threw the hangers that the leggings came in straight in the bin, rather than dithering about whether they could be reused or recycled. I have a big bag of unused hangers that I need to sort through and donate/ bin, and don’t need to add to it!

Also helped DD tidy her room and repurposed an unused storage box (a kallax type boxes) for all her craft things, though the box is just sitting on her chest of drawers at the moment.

RubySparrow · 23/03/2026 11:32

After charity/Vinted and the bin. I can now fit all my clothes into a single wardrobe and dressing table. I was ruthless especially with nightwear.
Sold another two books on Vinted. Burnt three candles. Refilled some diffuser. So the diffuser bottle (two) has gone in the plastic recycling.
I have also broken some of my hairline cracked mugs and used for drainage in the bottom of outside pots. Did enjoy planting my spring bedding.

Acheyelbows · 23/03/2026 18:09

Recycled 5 art/music books and disposed of 4 more which weren't suitable for the green bin.

Sorted through resources and passed on several items to colleagues for use or recycle.

Purchased more clothes unfortunately but may return some.

IndianSummer78 · 23/03/2026 18:11

One pair of worn out socks and one magazine, both recycled. Total is 4468

My local Asda and Sainsbury’s take all hangers for recycling. Worth a try?

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 23/03/2026 22:41

Another sale on Vinted - £1.50! I won’t be retiring quite yet! 🤣

GreenSageBlueTopaz · 24/03/2026 08:46

Got 3 x dvds and 2 x books to take to the swapping shelf. One dvd cover with only the special features dvd has gone in the bin. And a rubbish hairbrush that I don't use because it's rubbish but have kept incase I have also put in the bin!

IncessantNameChanger · 24/03/2026 09:56

I have given notice on my storage locker I used to convert a room. So I need to empty that by May. Ds is home from uni over Easter so my priority is to donate as many toys as I can to charity to make some room in the playroom. So he has a another living room as his gf is also over from the US.

I really have let all the SEN stuff get on top of me and fallen behind again. Really need to get dd to try on her summer clothes but I fear she won't do that and nothing will fit her. Where we have booked has a laundry at the hotel so I'm not going to stress. She only needs 7 days days clothes for that fortnight if I wash

IndianSummer78 · 24/03/2026 23:08

1 eye serum used up
1 pair shoes, too big, donated
1 scarf I never wear, donated
1 pair trousers I never wear, donated
1 pair leggings I never wear, donated
2 jumpers I don't like, donated
3 shirts I never wear, donated
1 top I never wear, donated
1 skirt I don't like, donated
Total is 4480

In a dilemma. Bought new non iron bedding. So I need to oust a set. Do I oust the newer one or the old getting thin one with the pattern I love?

determined not to have more than two sets per bed.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 25/03/2026 16:59

Sold a pair of Clarks “ shoe boots” on Vinted. Now glad that didn’t reduce them. You just have to wait for the right buyer.
