Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

Preparing for a local ‘Jumble Stroll’ here. DD has done an amazing job of clearing out her room and dressing up box looking for things to sell. 46 items! Plus a black bag of broken things, random paperwork and dried up felt pens!

Total 694

Hello, can I join? Trying to declutter and clear my home after having to clear a close relatives home after they died suddenly before Christmas. Been steadily getting rid of stuff in the past month but my garage is jammed with relatives things. I have large pieces of furniture to sell but not selling on FB marketplace. Anyway job for today is to put up some IKEA shelving and then trip to the tip.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 26/03/2026 19:57

Absolutely glacial movement on the decluttering front. Occasionally a small gap appears on a shelf, which is good.

Sell or donate - one children’s book
Five of my books

Paper/cardboard recycling bin - four children’s books beyond repair.

Binned one pair holey socks.

Sold 3 baby outfits and a perfume on Vinted! 1 outfit and perfume out the house in the same day! Another outfit having a re wash before I post it.

Bag for the school jumble sale is accumulating. Might manage to put an awful mug my husband likes in there. And a toy tank my children fight over that I can’t wait to be gone.

Have kids clothes in both genders waiting to be passed on but SIL hasn’t given birth yet to her mystery gender baby. That will clear out loads.

I have an ottoman bed I need to sort out all the shiz in there but keep putting it off. eeek ooof

sold 8 things on Vinted

total outs 213

no name of course you can join. Use the thread in whatever way helps you.

Bedding dilemma person - take a photo of the pattern for memories and so you can search/create something similar (which might not be bedding) then oust the old one.

One face cream used up. Total is 4481

Do perfume bottles have to be unopened on Vinted?

Technically you have to sell as brand new. So it’s been a bit risky but I’ve sold a half used jo malone. Also an empty special perfume that someone wanted as a collector £250+ perfume

Vinorosso74 · 27/03/2026 08:14

Did some tidying and cleaning last weekend. Outs, aside from bits n bobs, a very old and knackered pair of Converse; items to Boots recycling, 2 candles used up.
I got rid of some things on Freecycle which came from FILs. Current issue is 3 boxes in the lounge which DP brought from FILs, they have been there 3 weeks this weekend. I've moaned on here before but he is so lazy around decluttering. FIL was a terrible hoarder and he's not that bad but his lack of effort really gets me down when I make the effort to list things or take them to charity shop etc.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 27/03/2026 09:39

Itching to get home & have another sort out! I got an offer on a Nobody’s Child dress on Vinted but had only just posted it so declined & asked to meet them halfway. Found a great seller of vintage jewellery on FB Marketplace. I’ve had some lovely brooches for a few quid each & could easily resell most of them for a profit. Need to go round the charity shops again soon as I have found some incredible bargains.

One pair of too small boots and a pair of too small trousers. Donated. Total is 4483

CheesePlantFeet · 28/03/2026 15:55

Back in the loft today! I'm now dealing with the kid's stuff pile. This one is far too big, it takes over the eves down one full side of the house and we'd got rid of loads already about 5 years ago. Still, this time it feels (so far anyway) surprisingly easy to part with things, so many years past babyhood. I've manged to fill 2 big bin bags for the charity shop and a pile for the bin

Charity shop: top, 30x Toys, 3x Books, 3x Picture frames, highchair
Bin / recycling: 10x old greetings cards, 6x random bits of paper

Total: 641

LR47 · 28/03/2026 17:45

Cleared out 9 children’s books and a coat which is now too small.

Total outs: 223

I've chucked out some boots that I have loved but are worn to death now. I've also cleaned out a load of craft stuff and old papers from a shelf where it had all accumulated. Took a big bag of rubbish out, very satisfying :)

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 28/03/2026 19:20

Sold a pair of trousers on Vinted for £2.35. A pair of leggings went for £1.50 recently so I won’t be retiring quite yet 🤣🤣

Cyclingmummy1 · 28/03/2026 19:54

Put 7 items on Vinted this morning and have sold 3 plus 2 that have been on a couple of weeks.

RubySparrow · 28/03/2026 20:52

Another couple of sales on Vinted.
I really need to cut down my baby/childhood keepsakes to an A4 box.
My children are in their 20’s and don’t care!
We are still eating the food cupboard, no idea why I have 4 bags of quinoa!! Only I like it!

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 28/03/2026 21:37

Binned one small pair of rusty scissors. It’s just occurred to me that they could have been recycled at the dump. Need to set aside a spot in the garage for such items until dump run.

Paper bin - inside pages of an old diary. Covers in household bin.

Some paperwork attended to, and binned.

Morning! Glad to have found this thread. I’m working through a storage unit full of household bits, sports kit, clothes and shoes. Somewhere in there is an expensive gold bracelet, so it’s a full box‑by‑box clear out. Clothes are going to charity, some shoes I’ll try to sell, and the rest will end up on eBay. It’s confronting seeing how much money I wasted during a really unhappy time, and every box makes me think, “Wtf was I doing?”

But I’m committed to clearing it all, even with work being hectic. I do need to speed progress up despite limited time and that I need to do it by myself. So hello and good to be here. I'll be back. I wanted to get an intro down first.

GreenSageBlueTopaz · 29/03/2026 10:11

Another couple of books out to charity shelf.
Broken exercise ball into the bin.
Couple of books ready to pass onto my sister.
Some toys to be passed on to nephews.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 29/03/2026 17:09

Been having a bit of a think about my stuff, and about books in particular. The teenagers are not interested in reading in general, and no-one in the family shares my taste. That realisation leaves me much freer to suit myself, and carve space for my own choices away from the kids’ spaces. I can read and discard books at my leisure, without feeling I’m depriving anyone of the pleasure of the books.

GreenSageBlueTopaz · 29/03/2026 17:33

We also made the decision a few years ago that we wanted to thin our books right down.
It's proving a slow job as I'm doing it very gradually but progress is being made.
And I am especially pleased when I take them to Tesco and see they are taken really quickly, so I get to feel I've made others happy.
Long term we want to clear the whole room out and have a yoga/ weights room instead.
