Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

gave away 2 books, two dresses and a pair of trainers.

total outs 367

IndianSummer78 · 21/04/2026 22:27

3 pairs of plimsolls that bizarrely have arch support (we're a bunch of flat-foots)
1 pair of trainers that flaps off my heels
1 pair of boots with uncomfortable seam
1 jumpsuit that gives me a wedgie
All donated
Total is 4584

RubySparrow · 21/04/2026 22:32

More sales on Vinted, but I bought something too! But I have got a bargain!
Bought new 📖, but dropped a couple off at the charity bookcase at Tesco.

mutleyschuckles · 22/04/2026 16:00

Got rid of another bag of chewed up dog toys from around the garden in his secret hidey spots 😅
had an ant infestation in the kitchen a couple of days ago so in between battling that I have cleared the kitchen windowsill & thrown away the rando bits that gather there. Also several old multivitamins/tubs that we never remember to take have been chucked.
3 pairs of brand new hiking socks that are too wide for me have been given away to a friend to try.
1 old & frayed dog harness has been thrown away but replaced with a new one, which I didn’t realise also came with a lead. So now have a spare one for the car when I meet my friend & she’s forgotten theirs again.
will be deleting all current Vinted things this weekend & dropping off to charity shop next time I’m in town.

Tried to be a bit more ruthless with some things I haven't worn in ages.
6 x dresses
2 x joggers
2 x trousers
1 x gilet
1 x t-shirt
1 x jumper

Donate/sale three children’s books.

Started on the kitchen windowsills. Binned one painted jamjar from nursery. Found an electric toothbrush in amongst acorns and stones. A bit gross, now in garage electric recycling pile.

Tidied a bit in the garden. Garden waste bins are emptied this Friday, and I want them as full as possible. Didn’t get much done last year, very messy now.

I decided to have a cupboard of doom downstairs, as I’m enjoying having fewer boxes stacked around the place. One box full of waste paper went into the recycling trolley yesterday.

Another pair of socks in the textile recycling bag today as one sock has a hole in the heel. My total for April is 23 outs, so that’s just over one item per day so far, which is good going for me.

Pigtailsandall · 22/04/2026 20:50

I listed few more items on Vinted and two sold within a few hours; a tote bag and a summer top of mine which I loved but objectively made me look quite dowdy.
Also out 3 sample sachets of things I'll never use

Total outs: 237
Total ins: 107

CheesePlantFeet · 22/04/2026 22:36

Bin / recycling: 2x tupperware
Vinted: skirt, jumper

Total: 1122

This lovely weather is highlighting all my mess!! Busy most of today but will get stuck in over the weekend.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 24/04/2026 10:53

Having a decluttering of the ‘decks’ day.

so far all the kitchen works surfaces tidy and all random junk thrown on put away.

having a cuppa. Welsh dresser next followed by coffee table.

(garage tomorrow. Yawn. Don’t know how many times I’ve done it since Ive been on this thread).

IndianSummer78 · 24/04/2026 13:17

You've got to keep going over and over it has it really happened I'm on my fifth pass through of most places, it took ten passes to get on top of the junk cupboard. Keep chipping away and you will get there eventually.

This morning's outs:
1 x fake converse that rub
1 x waterfall cardigan that I'm totally over
1 x blouse that isn't my style
1 x pair of jeans too small
2 x 2025 catalogues
Total is 4614

CheesePlantFeet · 24/04/2026 14:45

I second what IndianSummer said! I looked at my cupboard under the stairs with despair today, I've done it twice now... And it's back on my hit list.

Charity shop: shoes, 3x skirts
Vinted/sold locally: jeans, dress

Total: 1128

ProfessorIDareSay · 25/04/2026 09:33

I was last here back in January! Picked up an injury, was on crutches, and have since had major surgery so everything else went on the back burner.

Hit my 2025 items out target last year, and this year I’m going for at least one item out per day. I got to 58 items in January, so a good start.
I paused my Vinted while I was out of action, so will get that up and running again next week, and have got a charity bag on the go.

Fit and well now so time to crack on again, though DH has been doing a pretty good job while I have been out of action, getting rid of stuff to the tip:

W/E 19/4 Week 16 (I think)

Recycled/binned
Roller blinds x 2
Ikea chair
Old bath panels x 2
Garden rubbish bags x 8
Dead tree
Plant pots x 12
Table

Week 16 total = 27
Total for year so far = 94/365

I’m going to hit the en suite and dressing room this weekend which should be productive.

BerfyTigot · 25/04/2026 10:00

So glad to hear that others need multiple passes to properly declutter.

The house is generally better, but there are still some rooms that need a lot more attention. I seem to get to a state where they are livable and then swap to another project, so never really finish anything 😬

Pigtailsandall · 25/04/2026 10:05

Out, a rocket dc and I made, plus a pair of trousers sold on vinted= 239
In, a book=108

I think decluttering is a lifelong habit; there'll always be maintenance decluttering even after major jobs are done.... otherwise it builds up again and you'll need another mammoth job

IndianSummer78 · 25/04/2026 17:03

That's the conclusion I've come to pigtails.

Berfy maybe you need to take a day off work (without telling friends or family so nobody can invite you anywhere or commandeer your time) and go at it solidly all day?

Gone:
1 x CD I don't want
1 x face wash used up
1 x hair dye used up
1 x dress too small
1 x damaged car mat
Total is 4619

Riverswims · 25/04/2026 22:35

I’m still following along, been working 4 days pw, I cannot speak for anyone else but I need more than 1 day pw without the children here for the house 🫠 still playing catch up after being away in Easter, didn’t bring much back, and gave family their presents then busy last Saturday, cleaned the car and took several loads of recycling out, I kindly jumped in the cardboard to make room for other residents 🤣 I’ve put pairs of gloves/socks back together and a few things ready for recycling centre, car water bottles filled etc
had some success asking the children to clean some areas
happy decluttering everyone

Acheyelbows · 26/04/2026 08:06

Filled two brown bins with green waste.
Binned 4 empty bird seed plastic tubs.
Recycled unused paper resources.
Recycled all packaging from purchases.
Returned pair of new shoes by post.
Used 1/4 tonne bag of sand levelling some dips in the garden.
Binned small kitchen compost bin.
Binned rusted garden scissors.
Binned used decking nails and metal joiners.
Binned socks with holes, wrong size knicks.
Binned broken plastic washing up basin.

Items waiting:
Ironing board and electrical items to recycling centre
Ten bags to be sorted through before going to charity shop
Sports roller x 2 to be gifted / charity shop

Finding it hard to follow through with decluttering at the moment, as so much to do in the garden, will have to set some smaller goals like sort two bags a weekend and drop them to the charity shop the same day as the build up has paralysed me.

mutleyschuckles · 26/04/2026 16:37

the hallway shoe rack was attacked today as we had to move it for the new broadband stuff to be fitted. So 2 pairs of the boys shoes on vinted & sold, will post tomorrow. 6 pairs of husbands boots/trainers that are growing spiders & webs. Covered in even more dust form not being worn from the last time he saved them from me chucking them out 🙄🤣 they are in a bin bag!! I have also chucked out a pair of my dog walking boots with more homes than sole.

Riverswims · 26/04/2026 16:44

was forced to clean/ tidy under stairs cupboard due to ants, only a few boxes out but I’ve actually indexed what’s there now, some bits need another go but that’s my first actual index! found my good running sunglasses and DS’s work walkie talkie

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 26/04/2026 20:33

3 parcels sent to Vinted yesterday (I might already have posted that) & today I sorted a few bits for the charity shop, including 3 or 4 pairs of trousers. Still have a lot to photograph & put on Vinted so that’s tomorrow’s job.

EllieQ · 27/04/2026 12:36

A few more outs in the past few days: one outgrown hoody and two of my dresses to the charity bag, and I threw out some out of date food. I have also suggested today that we offer our old pram to his cousin who is having her first baby in the summer, assuming it’s in good condition ( it’s in the cupboard under the stairs and has been there for about nine years).

DH was visiting his parents over the weekend, so he has come back feeling quite drained (they are elderly and have various health issues), but as their house is very cluttered, he often comes back with some enthusiasm for decluttering that I will take advantage of over this week. I know that sounds awful, but he can be quite obstructive to getting rid of things, and seeing that our house is too cluttered to use the space effectively. Tendencies that he definitely gets from his parents!
