Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

I've actually tackled my craft cupboard / cupboard of doom. Listed a few bits on vinted and threw out some empty boxes. It doesn't appear to have made any space, but at least I know what is in that cupboard now!

DecemberGloom · 14/02/2026 17:45

3 broken bits from games cupboard
1 face mask
3 jumpers in charity bag
4 plastic trays
1 book
1 dress

very slow and steady this week. Still feel swamped in stuff!

total 539

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 14/02/2026 19:04

Took 5 bags of stuff to the charity shop this morning. Forgot the coasters but they are sitting on the hall windowsill ready to go next time with a pair of socks on top ( socks ok but a little short & keep falling down inside my boots).

SpryLilacBird · 14/02/2026 23:36

Hi everyone,

Congrats on your totals!

I've binned: joules coat, 2 pairs of identical yellow trainers, flip flops, pair of high heels. And girls wear - 3 vests, swimming costume, pair of school socks, h&M jumper and two balls.

Sold on vinted: pair of womens shoes, and girls wear - jumper, four t-shirts, four dresses, leggings, playsuit, 2 disney vests, girls pyjamas, walking boots, shorts and a book.

New 2026 total - 53

I have a bag of shoes for schuh and two charity shop bags ready to go. I'll add these once they are out of the house! I've sold 10 kids books and a french connection top on vinted and will add these once they are showing as completed in the app. I've also started sorting out the garage which is long overdue.

Whats the ‘SJ thread’ @Acheyelbows?

It's a thread I saw yesterday about you doing one 'shitty job' a day. Something you have been putting off despite it probably only taking an hour or so at most. Thought I could harness it for decluttering or dropping to the charity shop.
I don't know how to link it sorry.

Vinorosso74 · 15/02/2026 10:38

I'm really not managing to get any significant outs, trying to keep on top of the day today things and using things up.
I really need to have a couple of days with some time to take photos and list the items for sale.

Acheyelbows · 14/02/2026 13:21

Lost my way for a few months, was at capacity and sickly since mid Jan. With the brighter days I decluttered a few things yesterday.

Large bag of art lessons with samples.
Old wall posters x 2
Dance lesson book.
Old craft books, manuals.
Unfinished art work 24
A3 Samples of work 24

Just saw the SJ thread today, might try and use this mentality to help me declutter daily from today on.

What’s the SJ thread? Thank you!

Sorry - seen it now thanks! If anyone can post a link that would be amazing! Sounds ideal for us!

I really need to catch up on this thread. I haven’t been doing very well but just to share a little tale; we are renting on the edge of a nature reserve and then one of my very expensive running shoes got taken probably by a fox in August so like a good decluttered I got rid of the remaining one after a little interval of time say six weeks and then now the lost one has turned up very close to the house
! I have no problem putting things in the washing machine so I could’ve washed it and kept a pair of shoes and now I’ve got to replace them 😱

Loft sorting seems never ending. We spent about an hour up there today on the DIY Pile of Doom. Particular highlights were tins of paint we used 20 years ago, rolls of wallpaper left by the previous owners, and a damp, slightly mouldy woolen blanket we used as a dustsheet 20 years ago, but was originally used as a mattress protector more than 50 years ago. The Pile of Doom is smaller now but still intimidating

Charity shop: 3x rolls new wallpaper, unopened drill bit box, unopened light switch thing, wallet, necklace
Bin / recycling: 36x old fabric kept as dust sheets, 3x rolls water damaged tape, damp proof stuff which was ironically damp, soggy used sandpaper, 9x tins of paint, 3x open rolls wallpaper, box, instructions

Vinted is being slow again so no new sales.

My DH found his childhood rock collection. 😬 🎉 It's still up there. But he's making chicken pie for tea and I'm going to pour a drink so I don't really care. Maybe there'll be diamonds and rubies in it 🤞

Woah, @Riverswims that's crazy! And really annoying!

Riverswims · 15/02/2026 18:19

I seem to be the Queen of closely missing pairings; I can think of so many examples with book/games/clothes/toys sets where I’ll declutter something incomplete then the missing part will turn up the next day but I didn’t share them all in case it puts anyone off 🤐

DecemberGloom · 15/02/2026 19:55

I accidentally decluttered a hinge I thought was junk and DH then needed it the next day. It had been in the garage for months and months untouched!!

Anyway, currently away for half term and I’ve packed any half used toiletries or miniatures of things with the intention of using up and decluttering whilst we’re away. I get a weird thrill from bringing back fewer items when I go home!

Riverswims · 15/02/2026 20:38

@DecemberGloomyeah I’ve had some of those situations too, like when I had an “easy out” of a small Amazon box but it was DD’s favourite so it had to come back 😶

RubySparrow · 15/02/2026 20:59

Another four sales on Vinted, but nearest charity shop still isn’t taking donations!
I am going to have to ask in nearest town before I drop off as some of it, is quite delicate. Beautiful glassware but I suppose is quite old fashioned so they might not want!
I still get a thrill when someone buys!
I binned some dry felt tips, why people don’t throw straight away I don’t know!
Dropped some recycling at boots and bought some toothpaste, never comes in wrong!

IndianSummer78 · 16/02/2026 01:19

river swims maybe you need an incomplete items holding basket, to go through once a year in case things show up again.

I got rid of a jacket that was too small and a pair of boots that fit weird. Total is 4333

Odd socks are my nemesis. I have a bag of them and never quite have the nerve to bin serial offenders.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 16/02/2026 22:37

Discovered that DH deliberately threw out some gardening stuff of mine, despite agreeing beforehand to stick to his area of the garage. Words were had.

Caught up with more paperwork. Still need to keep everything, but much more of it is in the right place.

Actually decluttered with kids’ agreement - four rag dolls with sets of clothes.

Battery operated dog and bear.

Also two unwanted jigsaws that I will put in my sentimental cupboard for a few months.

Well the battery operated dog and bear got a reprieve this morning when I put new batteries to see if they still worked, and a teenager said to keep them. They’re back on the shelf temporarily, sigh.
