Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

Morning all - moved in with my folks for a couple of weeks so no decluttering for me, although when DBro arrives to relieve me I might ask him to get my stored stuff out of the loft eg childhood books, my dollshouse etc. Whether I can bring myself to get rid of any of it is another matter!

mutleyschuckles · 19/02/2026 07:46

I have a bin bag of random kitchen cupboard stuff to donate this afternoon including kilner jars, crockery, lunchboxes that we never use. Also a coat & a top I ordered for me but is stupidly small. Will leave the tags on & a smaller person can have a bargain as I can’t be bothered to return it.

If you or DBro have any old Beano, Dandy, etc annuals, they are selling quite well on Vinted. Not massive money but feeling quite virtuous having sold 17 in less than a week.

Decluttered a stained pillow case and recycled a bag of paper resources, used refill pads and work notes.

Cleared and sorted documents on the living room surfaces - dining table, dresser top and mantle piece.

Thinking of getting an ottoman style footstool made to match the couch we got just before Christmas to store board games in. They're currently in piles on the window sills. I've more stored in a Kallax upstairs and more that I've brought to work.

Does anyone have any other storage solutions for board games that rarely get played but I hold onto in the hope of having a regular family games night? I previously donated some and had to repurchase a few years later so that has saved the current batch from the charity shop many times.

Pair of jeans that don't fit
Pair of pyjama bottoms with a split seam

Just got rid of the giant chocolate brownie from the farm cafe that the boy has only had a bite out of & abandoned…… 😋😂

IndianSummer78 · 21/02/2026 01:53

Baby trousers, vest, romper and pram suit into donation bag. Total is 4351

Acheyelbows · 21/02/2026 10:16

Dog blanket, silicon and steel bakeware decluttered. Two books recycled, one bulky game thrown out.

Charity bag started with runners, scientific calculator, books.

Going to try a fabric underbed storage bag for board games under the couch. Unused ones going to work or charity shop.

Have done a bit of decluttering this half term.

Things to go to work (primary school teacher):
1 bunch of fake flowers
1 plant pot
10 books (my class will be so excited)
1 light up fairy light thing
1 rug for the reading corner

Recycling:

Resources for work that I have not used in 3 years (black bin bags worth)
1 falling apart book
20 toilet rolls inside bits
2 toothpaste boxes
1 inner tube bit of kitchen roll

Selling via world of books:

20 dvds
5 cds
4 books

Charity:

1 small IKEA book case
1 side table
1 scarf
1 pair of trainers (barely worn)

Half term so not much done but I did do a few tiny things today. We have had an influx of stuff so we had an outflux (I know it's not a word but I like how it sounds) today.
Note on the books - we are clearly going through a changeover period. My dc is 6,5, 7 this summer, and we are transitioning away from picture books and getting into "big kid" books. So there'll be some coming in, some going out. I have bought a few big bundles on Vinted, and I'm trying to pass on picture books to other unsuspecting parents

Recents outs: cot mattress and sheet (big win!), old meds, 2 cat toys,an abacus, 19 books, 4 table leg extension things, toy airplane and car, handmade soap (mine, came out rubbbish) and about 5 things that DH decluttered today

Ins: one new school polo (needed), totebag (free, DH annoyingly accepted), 16 books

Year totals:
Ins: 69
Outs: 153

For anyone who feels like they declutter a lot but don't see results, I recommend trying to count the "ins". It is quite sobering.

LR47 · 21/02/2026 17:16

Had an extremely difficult few weeks, just modern day busy life stuff but keeping on top of the house has gone to pot.

Had my first try in week today. Sold 3 items on Vinted.
Gave 4 t shirts to a friend for her son
Sorted a toy box in DS’s room and got rid of 11 items

Total outs: 184

Yes this is true. I would hate to know what my INS are. I drop 2 parcels at Vinted lockers and pick 3 up for the kids clothing

Cyclingmummy1 · 21/02/2026 17:22

My INs are quite high at the minute as I'm trying to remove some clutter from DF's house. Into my house while I sell them. Ho hum.

Realfastfoodie · 21/02/2026 19:49

Half term, so not much done at home but I saw my parents earlier in the week and found a load of my work/old school stuff to bin. Really makes me realise that I should only keep a few bits of the kids stuff. And really that there’s no point in keeping birthday cards at all!

Hasthisreallyhappened · 22/02/2026 07:51

I’m back. I was doing quite well at the end of last year but then life got in the way.

Decided to start in the office a couple of weeks ago and I’ve currently filled one bin bag with old paperwork that can go to the shredders

I bought myself 50 brand-new hanging folders for the filing cabinet and I’ve slowly started a new filing system for all papers since DH passed with a view to outing all old paperwork in his similar named files by the end of the year

It’s hard in some ways because it’s a constant reminder that he is no longer here and a difficult battle to take on board knowing what to keep sometimes and what to get rid of.

at least it’s something I can do sitting down and not need to be overly active. I’ve taken to taking one file at a time and sitting on the sofa working my way through it and then going back and filing stuff as needed. I’m feeling rather good about the mounting pile that will be walking out the door at some point soon.

6 craft scraps that have become damaged
4 DIY scraps that I thought might come in useful but realistically aren't going to
Total is 4361

Acheyelbows · 22/02/2026 10:54

Sorted through the board games, have a bag full for work and a bag full for the charity shop.

Children's book sets sorted and moved out of DC room, some for work but need to label them before I can bring in. Lots of items recycled or stored in memory box so his Kallax is clean and tidy. DC helped and I promoted a positivity towards letting things go.

Dismantled one large lego set and bagged it according to the inventory list at the back of the manual. Some pieces still to be located before I can sell or donate it. 1 small set added to charity bag. 2 nearly done about 60 to go.

DH got motivated watching me and has agreed to gift or donate some books and bagged up old clothes he says he won't wear anymore. Clothes will go, books I won't hold my breath.

LadyPene · 22/02/2026 15:02

Dropped another bag at the charity shop earlier, packed another and put in the car ready to drop next weekend. Few vinted sales. Mainly craft stuff and outgrown clothes. My DD had a massive sort out so I have that to go through. Managed to bin an old pair of trainers I'd kept for too long. Mostly managing not to buy much too, the kids are getting older and fussier so there is just less stuff. Also made sure to bring something down from the loft (broken xmas box and outgrown baby cd) when went up ..... I can't face tackling it but it will be less daunting if tackle it bit by bit.

LR47 · 22/02/2026 15:06

Gave away 2 t shirts
sold and posted two items on Vinted

Total outs for 2026: 188

mutleyschuckles · 22/02/2026 18:57

Went through all my trousers & jeans & will be donating/vinted any that slightly don’t fit, don’t wear or like any more. That was a bin bags worth.
I have bought 2 new duvets 1 summer weight & 1 all year in king size. So the double duvet & 1 cover has gone into the (now very happy!) dog bed & the spare covers for that are also in the charity bag.
also sorted various odd socks/gloves & swimwear. Thrown the damaged ones away.

LR47 · 23/02/2026 11:12

Two more Vinted sales

total outs 190

CheesePlantFeet · 23/02/2026 12:45

Sorted through the contents of one box of diy stuff in the loft and found proper homes for most of the stuff and got rid of some small bits of randomness that were in there.
Also sorted through one kitchen cupboard and one drawer

Charity shop: jumper, 3x jugs, 22x baking/cake decorating tools
Bin / recycling: 4x batteries 6x screws, 11x curtain hooks
Vinted/sold locally: skirt, coat

Total: 510

RubySparrow · 23/02/2026 14:26

Sold another 2 items on Vinted but bought 3🫣.
Charity shop is accepting donations, yeah, do some delicate glassware ( not worth trying to sell as would need so much bubble wrap!). Couple of tops that are only worth a £1 do I just can’t be bothered!
I sorted my food cupboard and I should be ashamed, food from 2012! I binned.
