Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

Sold some more things on Vinted. My nearest Charity shop has a sign saying no donations!
I will phone the next nearest and ask, I have lovely glassware to give. Can’t be bothered to sell on Vinted because of size of box needed to keep it safe.

Realfastfoodie · 05/02/2026 19:23

Anglo doorstep collections boxes filling up nicely. I’m going to try that thing (I think I saw it on Orjenise) where you walk though the house with fresh eyes and just try and find random things to give away.

I’ve also managed to give away a bunch of things locally including a few bulky things. Feeling quite positive!

Total 246 for the year so far

Great job everyone! I have been MIA because I've had the flu that lasted, uh, at least two weeks? I felt like death so NOTHING got done. DC got given 20 books (yes) from an older school friend, and I bought a few books to keep me going whilst languishing in bed - so today I have cleared out a few things, and donated a pile of books to even things out. I was really pleased that I posted stuff on buy nothing group yesterday and people came today, as agreed and promptly. That never happens!

Ins for the last few weeks have been: a duvet set (needed, we had only one), 2 legos for DC (bought because of guilt, because have been in bed and not playing with DC), pair of trousers and 2 t-shirts for DC, 23 books (ouch)

Out: sold a bag, 2 sets of kids pyjamas and a pair of kids trousers on Vinted - posted yesterday (the last possible day! I did send apologies), 33 books, a bath oil pouch used up, a very questionable tupperware, metal bowl, old hotel moisturiser (bloody DH bringing them back), 5 bits of my clothing to the charity shop (didn't sell on Vinted), kids trainers, picture frame, kids leggings, journal I'd been meaning to read but never did, goop toy, my old glasses recycled at specsavers (big win - they've been in the drawer for 2 years)

To date:
Ins = 51
Outs = 106

i THINK this is pretty accurate. It is quite sobering keeping a tab on the ins, actually. it makes you realise all the little bits that creep in...

CheesePlantFeet · 07/02/2026 16:55

Hope you're feeling better @Pigtailsandall that's amazing work!

I spent a hour up in the loft again this morning. Sorted through some more baby stuff and got rid of a lot to charity, recycling and have a new pile to sell on vinted. Also found some random/broken stuff up there we were storing for no good reason! Probably too lazy/busy to take it to the tip when we wanted it out of the house.
Also had a few sales on vinted, but it's a bit slow, maybe I'm pricing too high.

Charity shop: toy farm, 17x kids books, 11x baby clothes
Bin / recycling: broken carpet cleaner, kids bike helmet, wrapping paper, storage box, instruction book, 3 sheets of poster card, 11x stained baby clothes
Vinted/sold locally: top, 2x dresses, skirt

Total: 378

Realfastfoodie · 07/02/2026 17:13

Still filling up a few boxes for the collection.

Put some bits left over from our building work in the bin. And a couple of damaged books and toys. And some kids art. 274 for the year so far.

IncessantNameChanger · 07/02/2026 17:31

No real purposful decluttering this week. There is always some crisis that pops up for me.

Dh and me are cleaning, sorting this weekend so hopefully some outs will arise. So far it's two catalogues and some paperwork, old Christmas cards I have decanted into one boxe etc. So five outs, lots of bits of paper. Will count the papers as one.

Found some slip on summer shoes I want dd to try on. Slowly she getting down to a sensible number of footwear. She is reluctant to try anything on and you could easily think I was asking her scrub the toilet! The trauma 😅

IndianSummer78 · 08/02/2026 06:30

11 pairs of earrings and a leaflet
Total is 4304

How many earrings is a normal amount? I think I still probably have too many. I only have one set of holes in my ears. I scrubbed them all clean with hand wash and an old toothbrush last night and it took me about two hours. I might get rid of all the ones that aren't silver or gold and so can't be dipped for thirty seconds in the cleaning liquid 🤔

Realfastfoodie · 08/02/2026 07:15

@IndianSummer78 I don’t know what the “right” amount of jewellery is but that sounds like a great rule. I think things that are hard to clean really have to earn their place… as you say, they can’t just be dipped - and who wants to be spending hours of their lives on cleaning!!

Cyclingmummy1 · 08/02/2026 08:37

@IndianSummer78 the gold price has stopped slightly this week but if you've got even 3-4g it'll be worth around £100. I've got an appointment to have something made from my mum's diamond rings (another ring) and I've collected all the oddments I don't wear to offset some of the cost.

LR47 · 08/02/2026 13:20

Besn crazy busy with work, the kids etc so not been updating regularly. However, I have been chipping away at maintenance de cluttering. Outs:

Sold and posted 39 things on Vinted
gave away a storage box
gave away 2 skirts
used up a kids’ colouring book and got rid
gave away 4 of DDs clothing items

total outs for this year 166

IndianSummer78 · 08/02/2026 15:18

Thanks, I don't have that much gold though cycling mummy so I was planning to keep all those. I do save all the lost-the-other-one's though and I'll sell them one day.

It's the cheap ones made of random metal I'm dithering over. I've got about 10 necklaces and they're all different, two rings, a few bracelets - not all of it silver or gold, but I like them. Earrings I've decluttered several times but still seem to have a few small boxes full of them. Goodness knows how many I originally had. Now I'm wondering if I should maybe go minimalist, just keeping a couple of each category and getting rid of some gold/silver too. Maybe I'll make a note of what I wear in 2026 and get rid of anything I don't.

Vinorosso74 · 08/02/2026 16:17

Had a ridiculously busy week, long days so haven't actually achieved anything!
Today, I got rid of soft plastic and blister pack recycling purely to get something out! Also sorted some bits for Boots recycling which I'll drop off in the week.

Cyclingmummy1 · 08/02/2026 16:31

I put a pile of random costume jewellery on vinted @IndianSummer78 and it sold within the hour. It was only a fiver but DH was about to throw it in the pile for the tip 😆

Similarly 4 belts, went in about 20 minutes, another fiver.

CheesePlantFeet · 08/02/2026 18:14

Relisted some stuff on vinted and listed some new stuff too. Sold a fair bit 😊

4x dresses, blanket, 3x jumpers, skirt, 2x jackets

Total: 389

DecemberGloom · 08/02/2026 18:16

10 out of date herbs/spice jars (most recent expired in 2021!)

5 self help books

Total 494

I have a day off tomorrow so planning to really tackle some cupboards!

Happyhettie · 08/02/2026 18:53

Charity shop:
An unused table
2 boxes of hand cream
2 vases
4 books

Tip:
1 bag of garden waste
2 half empty tins of paint (to the charity paint bit they have at the tip)
Broken bits of flag stone
Broken plant pot

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 08/02/2026 21:33

Sold a pair of jeans on Vinted. Have lost my decluttering get up & go recently - need to get stuck in again. I so want to blitz DD17’s room but she barely lets us in!

RubySparrow · 08/02/2026 22:50

4 sales on Vinted! So not only items but 4 saved boxes and bubble wrap that I was hoarding gone! DH is pleased as my saved boxes is a disgrace!
Took some saved pretty drinking glasses to another CS.
Shredded more old paper work. Need to finish reading my 10 books on the go, then sell them. Did take a couple of read books to the Tesco book stand.
I am half way through my wax melt collection. When finished I’m taking the wax burner to CS or giving away on Gumtree/Facebook or Olio.

RubySparrow · 08/02/2026 22:52

Would try a give more things away on Facebook etc. But it’s so wet here I don’t want to leave out on door step even in a plastic bag. And I’m not waiting in unless they are paying.

SydneyCarton · 09/02/2026 10:11

Chucked some random bits from the Kallax toy boxes. The DC are moving away from "toys" as such, although the youngest still has quite an impressive collection of HotWheels. We have a box of Brio which I keep thinking about getting rid of, but I think it would have to be Facebook Marketplace as it might be too heavy for Vinted buyers. Maybe Ebay?

Also binned a dried up mascara and a used handcream, and decanted the remaining Christmas chocolates into one tub - all horrible toffee pennies and mini Bounty bars that no-one likes!

Pigtailsandall · 09/02/2026 13:37

I've had a Totebag of Doom by the door for ages now - all the little things that I needed to do - recycle batteries, return library books, drop off expired meds at the pharmacy etc etc. I decided to spend my lunch break dropping them off all along the highstreet! It wasn't a big bag but it was ALWAYS staring at me.

Few small outs: a dried up highlighter, box of catfood donated (cat went off of it, bloody fleabag), one cat toy, 3 kids exercise books from Year 1, 3 expired meds

Outs= 115
ins= 51

Edit to note that I ADORE my cat - but she is a bloody fussy eater!
