Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

Can you only use one £5 per new shoes purchased? I want to get ds18 some Dr Martins fir school so they last for uni

I find it depends on how friendly the sales assistants are! I've managed to use up to 3 for a single pair of kids trainers before. I managed to use two each for a pair of kids crocs and kids trainers last summer.

Zireael · 25/01/2026 23:11

DH and I filled a sack with old shoes and tatty clothes which I will drop at a clothes bank tomorrow. I managed some tidying too, but still so much to do!

Continued paperwork, only decluttered several bits of paper,

Kid showed me how to make new mailboxes. I spent ages sorting and deleting. Well worth it, because phone started running a bit more smoothly.

Got diary up to date, wrote long to-do list.

Hi All, I havn’t managed to read or post on the thread in weeks as both of the little ones have been ill and any spare time has been dedicated to life admin and praying for sleep haha. Anyway after a very dedicated start at new year I managed to get rid of two tip runs of rubbish and four bags for charity, sorted through the children’s clothes and got more on my Vinted pile and some for the bin, also managed to sort through the bathroom cupboard and use up things in there. I feel like I’ve stalled a little bit but after reading how well everyone else is doing I’m determined to get back into it! I went to ikea on Sunday and now want to redo my whole house with perfect storage solutions!

Realfastfoodie · 27/01/2026 14:30

Wooohooo I’m on a roll. All those bits got posted to vinted, I dropped 25 books off to my kids school/nursery. Did a big toy/book sort and found another 6 things for the bin. And my Anglo doorstep collection is booked and I have 2-3 boxes full for this already!

Oops I may have bought some vintage jewellery (because a roomful is clearly not enough! 🤣) plus today I somehow found myself in the charity shop - again! I think I need to go daily, although the lady who served me said Tuesday is a good day as they get new stock & do some reducing. One of the items was a Ted Baker GiGi jumper for £4 which looked brand new. Thought about buying a pair of Rocketdog boots for a tenner but some of the pairs on their website were only £20 in the sale.
Now I need to get rid of some stuff to make up for it!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 27/01/2026 19:14

Tommy Hilfiger not Ted Baker

Oh dear! I do think stopping the inflow is our best weapon in the fight against clutter. I think I’m lucky that I don’t have time to shop very often! Great idea to try to do a 1 in /1 our with other stuff… I need to do that with kids clothes I think.

IncessantNameChanger · 27/01/2026 22:47

I have gone through dd clothes yet again as she has had a small brother spurt. She has identified ten things that do still fit, but are 9-10 ( she is a Diddy 11.5 year old) so they won't fit much longer and she never wears them. Not sure if I will try to sell on Vinted or not yet so not counted it as out yet.

I can not belive how much excess stuff she has! However much we get rid of there's still more that can go. She is hardly replacing any of it. Summer will be another interesting declutter for her as I'm not sure what she has grown out of. Ideally she would have a capsule wardrobe and I'm going to keep working towards that goal.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 28/01/2026 08:44

Will post some of my charity shop finds on Vinted this morning. DH has asked me not to buy any more stuff to sell on so I will have to photograph the latest bits whilst he’s out! I do get where he’s coming from as it’s very easy for the house to get taken over by bags of clothes. As I said before, some of the items on Marketplace were first advertised ages ago. DH has christened me Del Boy 🤣

Realfastfoodie · 28/01/2026 09:46

My top tip (got from someone else on this thread) is to book an Anglo doorstep collection. Currently I’m challenging myself to fill as many boxes for them as possible!! I’ve got a couple of weeks and it’s going to be so good to get rid of so much stuff !

GreenSageBlueTopaz · 28/01/2026 10:46

Nothing out today except some broken boxers. But more clothes in a pile for a cousin, didn't get them washed and dried in time for this weekend so hopefully see them again soon to pass on the rest. These sons of mine grow too fast, feel like I have to sort through their clothes every couple of months.

Honestly I did a big sort of both kids’ clothes before Christmas and they are already half grown out… I feel your pain. I know it’s my downfall too!

I have been awol due to illness, went down with a head cold and have also been super busy with dc stuff!
I had an Anglo charity collection picked up last week - 6 bin bags and 2 boxes worth.
I did a tip run on Monday, the car was full of recyclables including electrical goods, and 3 bags for life of clothes for the clothing recycling.
I have another collection scheduled for a week's time and another tip slot for tomorrow. I have been keeping tally and I am up to 8/52 laundry baskets worth (I'm not counting general rubbish/recycling that has built up or it would probably be double 😅)

I am noticing the difference, life is a little bit easier and I can seem to strip the clutter away in layers but I still have a very long way to go. 'Jobs' that I never seem to have time to do are gradually being worked through as I seem to have more energy/determination/bloody mindness and time.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 28/01/2026 12:50

Posted my Vinted & may tackle the kitchen after lunch. I got rid of a few mugs a while back & need to clear out the rest of the cupboards. The coat hooks in the hall are starting to bow under the weight so I will transfer some of my jackets to the wardrobe, I think, plus ask DD17 if she wants to get rid of any.

DecemberGloom · 28/01/2026 13:43

Craft cupboard tackled today. 77 items gone.

That one really tired me out for some reason. Still not finished. 6 drawer unit still to sort out but that’s for another day.

Total so far : 384

IndianSummer78 · 28/01/2026 15:25

Marma-Del 😉 I used to sell (not clothes though) years ago and often bought similar and added to the pile because it's less visually messy. Eventually one day my ex noticed, said how come when you moved in you had x amount, you sold y amount but you've now got more than you had when you first moved in? 😆 Oops.

December craft stuff is hard.

Out goes one face cream so awful I don't even want to use it as body cream. How can something be simultaneously completely oily and seemingly have zero ability to sink into skin?! Also out is one empty hair serum bottle. Total 4264

Wow! That’s brilliant!

Bought more at the charity shop including a lovely silk & lace Hobbs dress & a Jigsaw skirt. Also posted a Past Times bangle which I’ve had for about 20 years but never worn.
