Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

Yesterday’s outs were eight plastic bottles from garage. Then the recycling trolley went to the pavement.

One of today’s tasks is to clear all the boxes of foil, greaseproof paper etc off the top of the microwave - sure I read somewhere that you shouldn’t store stuff there. Also remembered that there is a duvet in amongst the carrier bag avalanche in the corner - once it’s washed, I will ask the lovely pillow lady to collect it. Will sort the bags too. Oh & clear the windowsill. Decided we need new tea/coffee/sugar containers & a utensil pot plus a kitchen roll holder. Some of the things DH had when we met, which was nearly 25 years ago!

outs

2 magazines
a hoodie
A pair of wellies
a large storage container

total outs 118

Hello all, finding the thread very motivating!

I’m tackling my jewellery today, can I ask what people do with the boxes it comes in? I have a nice jewellery box but I also find myself keeping boxes for specific things like nice earrings. It seems a bit daft and usually I’m on board with Mari Kondo’s method of chucking out boxes as they aren’t needed but unsure about jewellry for some reason!

2026 Outs:

41 items

If they are decent quality, branded boxes then I pop them on Vinted. Boxes and packaging usually sells, even if for a pound or so.

Otherwise, recycling?

GreenSageBlueTopaz · 20/01/2026 15:14

Two broken storage boxes out.

Not feeing great this week. So I’m just trying to find things - big or small - which can go in the bin rather than be on a shelf/side/furniture.

I’m not writing individual bits down but they’ve included kid’s work, wrappers, broken bits of toys etc. Basically I’m trying to find things to remove from circulation.

Ive also booked an Anglos doorstep collection for a few weeks time. There must be some things to include by then and their list is quite long really.

Progress is progress and well done for anything at all that’s left the house. I’ve only managed one worn out pair of socks today and a knackered pair of school shoes (which don’t count as they’ve had to be replaced with a new pair!).

Zireael · 21/01/2026 21:16

@CocktailsandcoffeeI know what you mean about nice boxes! Every watch or fancy necklace I’ve had comes with a plush box that is “too nice” to throw away! That being said, I have never once had a need to keep them, so shall we bit the bullet and agree to chuck them?

Zireael · 21/01/2026 21:20

I managed some outs today with a quick trip to the tip to get rid of some very large cardboard packaging, a broken kitchen bin and some really ratty textiles not fit for anything other than rags.

Then this evening whilst folding laundry I made another heap of undies that are way past their best and headed for textile recycling tomorrow

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 21/01/2026 21:29

Evening folks - 2 more items sold on Vinted, a ring & a Shein dress of DD’s. Had an offer on a pair of waterproof trousers on Marketplace but the person hasn’t come back to me. I didn’t do the top of the microwave after all so will do it tomorrow.

Specialagentblond · 21/01/2026 21:55

Started on the bathroom cabinet today. It’s massive so will take days.

Realfastfoodie · 21/01/2026 22:26

Popped a few more things on vinted. But am going to send on their way more quickly if they don’t go.

cocktails I store earrings, rings and hairbands/clips in old jewellery boxes (with the inner packaging removed). Bought some small claw clips today and fished out an old, small, pretty plant pot to keep them in. I've got some broaches in the jar that used to contain a candle. With storage items I like to use what I already have, where possible.

Cocktailsandcoffee · 22/01/2026 14:59

Thanks @DecemberGloom i hadn’t even considered selling the boxes but I don’t think I can be bothered. Into the recycling they went!

@Zireael I was a step ahead and more ruthless than I thought, I chucked them all out except one Tiffany box that I put my sentimental stuff in (grandma’s wedding ring etc). It felt good and now I have arranged everything in my actual jewellery box so that it’s visible and accessible.

thanks @IndianSummer78 my issue was more I have a lovely jewellery box where most stuff is kept but I had all this extra fancy boxes piled on top. Now I’ve got rid of them and put everything in my box I feel better. A place for everything and everything in its place and all that… 😊

Cyclingmummy1 · 22/01/2026 17:59

I've done most of my classroom so can actually use the cupboard that the previous teacher hadn't emptied. Filled the bin twice, two large boxes of whole school resources and about 6 boxes that I've handed over to the Head as I don't know if they are school or personal to the previous teacher.

RubySparrow · 22/01/2026 20:03

Couple of books sold on Vinted! So books and recycling Amazon packaging gone.
Two packets of cat treats eaten. We had at least 10 packs open!!
I also finished the DD’s advent calendar, there were 3 chocolates left. So eaten and recycled.

Good morning folks - I am now on holiday for at least a week so can get stuck in! I still haven’t cleared the top of the microwave! Will be trying on some clothes in a bit & there may well be more to go on Vinted. I need to go to the auction house as I have some miniature cottages etc which may be of value plus a very unusual pot that I found in a charity shop.

DecemberGloom · 23/01/2026 12:23

Get the microwave cleared :)

Charity bag collected today with around 30 items in it. One item sold on Vinted. Two used packages recycled. One school blazer sold on FB marketplace.

I sort of heard that in the 12 days of Christmas tune 🎶

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 23/01/2026 13:23

Recycling - the last eight wster bottles. I had intended making a cloche or even a greenhouse with them, but the garden has overwhelmed me for several years and I have a very bad habit of never finishing anything I start. So that idea has been decluttered.

I looked out all the puzzle and sudoku books. I used to
buy a new one each time they came out. About thirty of them now that they are all on the same shelf. I buy duplicates of the sudoku and wordsearch, and we have races in the evenings! There’s probably about twenty more in the dc bedroom. I won’t be buying more for a while.

Also bags of fir cones for making Christmas decorations several years ago, a big bag of milk bottle lids from when nobody (ie me) could find the counters for the draughts board except no-one (me) stopped collecting them when we had enough for a game, it goes on and on….

One bank task completed, and gave me confidence to tackle some more of the same.
