Decluttering Thread 12

Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

I haven't done much, but also haven't brought in anythingsince last post. Out are 2 unidentified plastic objects which none of us can figure out. Also, emptied out a tiny bit of old hair oil that had been hanging around and recycled bottle, plus burned a lovely scented candle and recycled jar.

About 5 bags of clothes, mainly outgrown children's stuff but some of mine gone to clothes bank. Two books out to the swapping shelf nearby.
Broken bird feeder and broken shoes to the bin.
4 toy sets on marketplace which will hopefully sell quickly.
General house bin emptied next week, overly full already from xmas/ slash sorting so once emptied I can hopefully get on the binning rubbish that's good for nothing.

Still only me oldest's bedroom is completely done.

A walk round the last of the sales this morning has yielded a shirt and a jumper. I'm about to remove two tops from the wardrobe that no longer fit me to make room for them. They will go to charity once they've been washed.

Got rid of over a dozen pillows without cases. A lovely lady came to collect them for the homeless & was so grateful, bless her. I have cleaned the fridge & chucked the contents of several jars. Now about to sort the dreaded clothes basket with DD17’s stuff in it. Hopefully a couple of bits to go on Vinted.

I seem to have stalled on my own progress, but I enjoy seeing how well everyone else is doing. I’m going to go for a quick win now: the kitchen spices

Not done much too much decluttering this week. I did try on all my skirts and got rid of 2, and I looked through my hats, scarves and gloves - some are headed to Vinted and 1 to the charity shop. Sold a jumper that I culled last week, but Vinted is very slow right now for me. I do feel I'm doing better at getting rid of clothes recently by taking just a category at a time. Feels much less overwhelming and my wardrobe looks very organised now I've grouped things together. I'm enjoying finding things I'd forgotten about or thought didn't fit

Emptied out 17 spice jars, two pickle jars, handfuls of ketchup and jam packets, x2 OOD cheeses.
Also went through junk mail and chucked old pet medication.

Starting small with decluttering part of a jewellery box. Five items gifted, one on Vinted and two pairs of rusted cheaply earrings tossed.

Also added some hair accessories to the gifted pile so my total is 11 today.

I have managed to bin some old bras and get rid of 2 bags of charity shop stuff just before Xmas I have bought one of these wrapping paper and labels and trimming box things so decluttered 3 bags of bits into that also got a box for all the tree ornaments though it hasn't made it back to the loft yet got numerous amounts of cardboard sitting in the garden waiting to go to the tip oh and an old metal shower caddy!
it's never ending grrrr

Collected up another two bags of outgrown clothes. And some appliances gone on marketplace. A old bit of sports equipment in the bin.

managed to sort out some old christmas decs snd trees from the loft three trees for the dump and numerous amount of cardboard and some old metal bins and an old metal shower caddy six boxes of old christmas decs from the loft for charity and then sorted the rest of the numerous decs into categories and labelling the newest ones for ease
Ordered some more wreath plastic storage bags from amazon for my easter wreaths
Now to tackle 2 called units one in the study and one in the conservatory but not today!! gathered the remaining board games together but haven't yet found anywhere to put them
dh also took to the dump and old bag old quilt snd old coffee machine he found in the loft a star but it's a long way to go yet and our backs are killing us

Four items posted on Vinted from DD’s basket - one was favourited immediately. I threw away a couple of things, kept a few & the rest filled a carrier bag for the charity shop. Also posted a Temu dress on Vinted.

Cami sold - reckon I could have charged a bit more but it came from a charity shop in the first place.

Christmas is finally back in the loft! Which has cleared up the landing now. Also got 3 large parcels out.

One sleeveless jumper that doesn't suit me and one tape measure that's too small to be of any practical use. Total is 4248

Christmas went back into the loft today for us too. Lots of decluttering to do this week as I have lost my passport! I went to France with dd and her school. But school handed me back my passport. It has a home with my foreign currency. But it's not there. So got to turn the house upside looking for that now.

So much life admin too. It's a busy month.

We are all doing so well right now. I want to get to 202 items out then I can feel confident I might hit 2026 by the end of the year.

Sold two items on Vinted, so that two saved boxes🫣 used and bubble wrap I had saved. So really six items out of house.
Another pair of broken trainers in bin, they had hardly been worn, but the glue must have decomposed! Because the sole half fell off!!
We are still eating the freezer, I’m finding ChatGPT great for ideas.
I gave my DP’s some frozen portions of cottage pie and some homemade biscuits. Favourite DD I am today.
I’m reading a chapter a day of my book ( I have a book tower next to my bed). I will be posting every finished book on my SM just to look back on! I don’t care if people think I’m a bore.

I'm toying with the idea of completely tackling a room per month. So this month we totally sorted DD1s room. However we have removed stuff that I am selling, clearing as I can so I guess it's not complete. But at least her room is a haven in the house.

I was considering doing the bathroom too this month as would be quick.

Then DSs room in February which will be a pretty big job again.

Obviously I'm still going to get rid of stuff elsewhere as they crop up but a focused area is appealing as hopefully there will be a real visible difference.

This is a good idea. I like the thought of having one haven room.

I am tackling our freezing cold conservatory today. We barely use it in winter so it’s become a dumping ground for everything we don’t immediately need.

I noticed yesterday that the kitchen surface to the right of the microwave is gradually getting more & more cluttered - it’s been a general dumping ground for a while now but has got really bad. That’s my task for today. Plus my sofa is starting to turn into an armchair again as the pile of things like my diary, notebooks etc is rapidly expanding so I’ll try to put some of it away.

How did you get on today; do you have a lovely clear surface?

Cleared 137 items from the conservatory today and have barely made a dent. Months of toys, papers, art equipment, shoes and books everywhere. 148 item total so far.

I'm pleased that various items have been sold and collected off Facebook.
Half a bin bag of broken junk collected from all over. Worn out pair of shoes out.
Then I'll be busy over next few days so probably nothing else to report until the weekend.

I complained my Vinted sales were slow last time I posted here, so I took everything off and relisted the lot yesterday night. Sold 5 things so far 😁
Today's decluttering was going through one storage box in my bedroom. Got rid of some bits and bobs and moved the stuff I'm keeping to more sensible permanent homes

Charity shop: storage jar, candle, 2x hair clips,
Bin / recycling: 6x nail polish, broken plant pot
Vinted/sold locally: shirt, skirt, necklace, book, set of Croc charms

Total: 209

Sofa looking a little less cluttered but a work in progress. The surface next to the microwave now has virtually nothing on it!
