I need to deep clean my place if anyone wants to join me. The thread will just consist of people saying what they intend to do and letting us know when it's done at a leisurely pace.

Today I sorted out my tool boxes. I actually cleaned them and sorted everything into bags.

I also managed to take off my mop head which was stuck for ages. So I've ordered replacement heads.

Those mop heads are bizarrely difficult to shift sometimes!

Antonania · 21/05/2025 11:27

It's exam season so housework is on the down low.

My first task is a 2 hour house reset (to get "visitor ready" they say...ha! but it's my go-to when I get behind). Then I will think about deeper cleaning.

I had to use WD40.

Wow @Maitri108

I bought a mini Oxo GoodGrips dustpan and broom - I have the full sized one but it has seen better days .
New one is great for sweeping round the hard to reach bits , I've re-purposed the old one to outside .

I've got some items to recycle and put some clothes out for a kerbside bag pick up last week .
Vacuumed
2x laundry loads done and another one to go on overnight
I was going to clean the kitchen window and French doors but we've had loads of pesky flying ants !

Maitri108 · 30/05/2025 21:35

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I love Oxo Good Grips. I recently bought a long dustpan and brush so I don't have to bend down. It's great.

Lots of activity going on. Great stuff.

I have to book a charity collection for some furniture and other items.

Trying to think of ways to motivate…

We’re hosting DC birthday party next month, so hoping that will put some go power in my boots to crack on with the jobs and de-cluttering!

Also has anyone attempted to make a chocolate caterpillar cake? Have no idea how to tackle this request! 😅

PlodAlongPolly · 07/06/2025 16:17

Wet washing also sitting about miserably on the airers interminably atm, can’t do anymore til it’s dried. Come on sunshine we need you back to dry our washing! ☀️

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/06/2025 20:10

Ploughing away through un-ending laundry ( raining here too) hopefully I can get some on the line tomorrow .
Otherwise it'll be anything delicate that can hang up indoors or in the DryPod thingie

Managed to annoy the female cat by moving the trays to clean round them . She sat in the stairs with a "When was this decided then?" look .

Made some Cinnamon Buns (Paul Hollywood recipe) they were soooo nice

Steam mopped the kitchen and toilet floors
Tidied the pantry ( a bit , mainly throwing out empty boxes after re-organising things )

I need to give the potted plants some feed , they;ve had enough water Grin

How big do you need it to be and are you doing your own sponge ?

Swiss roll recipe doesn;t last long IIRC as it's fat free but you could make or buy one and cover in chocolate ganache and sweets . Smarties along the base as his feet .

I did a hedgehog cake for DS ( when he was in his 20s ) chocolate sponge layered with ganache then trimmed to a teardrop shape , covered in ganache and spikes of Matchmakers . Those gum sweets that look like teeth Grin and white chocolate button eyes .

Making cinnamon buns is housework!!! Is like scrubbing on your hands and knees. Basically.

I've been reading about banana peel water as plant food.

Ah thanks @70isaLimitNotaTarget I was going to have a bash at making my own sponge but a caterpillar shape has thrown me! A roulade / roll could work! Then cover in ganache like you said. Love the smarties idea! 🤩
The hedgehog sounds amazing I bet your son loved it!
Mine is turning 4 so I don’t think she will mind if the caterpillar looks a bit mad and questionable, as long as there is plenty of chocolate on/ in it! 😂

Next job needing doing - tomorrow plan - mow jungle lawn, put washing away, sort kids shoes, declutter kitchen worktops

Maitri108 · 09/06/2025 17:17

I'd love to see a mad and questionable caterpillar.

Watch this space! 🤣🤣

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/06/2025 18:56

Hand washed some of DD clothes that couldn't go in the wash ( I managed to ruin a pair of her trousers "Oh it'll be fine on a delicate cycle in a bag" ....no it wasn't ) so this is a replacement pair !

Couple of kitchen items to charity shop that I'd been thinking about recycling but in the end I thought "do it"

Going through some clothes , some of DH and DS t shirts , not good enough for Charity Shop but can go in textile recycle .

Kneading by hand might be Paul Hollywoods preferred method but In The Real World , the Kenwood mixer needs to earn its keep Grin

Dogaredabomb · 15/06/2025 19:14

I mended my favourite nightie, literally with a needle and thread. That should give my ankle length grey nightie another couple of years. I'm being frugal as well as cleaning and sorting.

AllTheBestUsernamesHaveBeenTaken · 16/06/2025 13:39

@Dogaredabomb That sounds quite thrifty. Where did you buy the nightie from?

Flow38 · 16/06/2025 17:29

I definitely need the motivation too! Just tackled the kitchen this morning (how does the inside of the microwave always get so gross so fast?). Next up: rugs and couch cushions.
If anyone's after a bit of structure or tips, I came across this blog with some deep cleaning ideas that actually feel doable, thought I’d share!

Let’s keep each other going.

I bought my enormous grey nightie from amazon, I shall keep it going until it's see through. Then, maybe I'll take a strip off the bottom and patch it 😂 I'll die in that nightie then it can be my shroud.

Dogaredabomb · 17/06/2025 22:27

To clean the inside of a microwave put some citrus fruit (or peel) in a bowl of water and microwave it. The gak wipes off really easily. I freeze peel and any cut up citrus fruit that is past its best for microwave cleaning.

Maitri108 · 17/06/2025 22:34

I use vinegar in water.

Other tips:

Citric acid for cleaning the bathroom, it's great on limescale. It's also anti bacterial and can be used as a bleach. I use it for the kettle, taps, sink, shower etc

Soda crystals- great for grease, paintwork, floors, drains, burnt pans, to soften water, laundry and to clean the washing machine.

Bicarbonate of soda - used for deodorising. I use it in the kitchen, fridge and on carpets to freshen them up.

I used bicarb on my carpet ( it is old , beige with a tiny pattern) where the cat had peed ......it turned that bit orange Shock
I have gone over it with the Vax but not shifted the discolouration
I always use non toxic cleaning products where the animals go , so steam on the floors to protect them ...not that they're Grateful

.

Dogaredabomb · 18/06/2025 21:53

No, there's just a distinct lack of gratitude for all we do and / or don't do. Especially from my dog, just snoozing away. I mean, we share a bed but it's always me who changes the sheets. Not one little card or gift, ever.
