Spring cleaning for sloths

I need to deep clean my place if anyone wants to join me. The thread will just consist of people saying what they intend to do and letting us know when it's done at a leisurely pace.

I have just booked a window cleaner for Friday.
Outsides only but I have now done the insides of 10 out of 13 windows. Mainly the 2 big downstairs ones (Patio doors and bay window) left.
Horrible job because I've ended up re-painting 2 window sills and having to take down and scrub 4 blinds.

Can't wait for Friday!

Sounds great.

I have to sort out the bedroom 🙄

I've been giving stuff away and it's been snapped up. I've got rid off so much stuff.

@steppemum Hope the windows look good.

Have a great weekend sloths.

Decluttering win: I went through the Playmobil. Have sorted into sets. I hope it will get played with more that way. If it doesn’t, it’s going. Already got one set to let go as I know they don’t like that one. It’s a slog but every little helps, I figure.

On the other hand we missed the collection and our recycling is overflowing … gah! Thankfully it’s weekly. Normal bin also overflowing but that’s three weekly. Not quite sure why. Really need to cut down on stuff coming in…just so much to dispose of.

Antonania · 13/04/2025 12:21

Late to the party but popping on to join if I may. A sloth thread with no judgement is exactly what I need.

I'm going to hoover first then start cleaning kitchen cupboards. We have a lot that was already grubby, then we had trades in last week so I'm drowning a bit.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 13/04/2025 12:54

Tackling kitchen floor mopping… I like to leave things long enough that you can really see the difference 😆

Antonania · 14/04/2025 10:00

I like your style @ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly .

Floors vacuumed and mopped, outsides of base cabinets cleaned.

Plan for today is outsides of top cabinets and insides of 2x drawers. I keep casting baleful stares at the oven but so far it has not taken the hint and cleaned itself.

steppemum · 14/04/2025 22:09

Window cleaner came. They look amazing!

Except the patio doors which are now the only ones that haven't been cleaned on the inside. I ran out of steam.
Oh and there's another blind that I forgot about, but it can wait a bit.

Trouble is, all that work, and it is only the windows. There is still all the other jobs that need doing.
On the plus side, window cleaner cleaned the whole front door as well as the window. (PVC door) it has never looked so clean

PlodAlongPolly · 16/04/2025 20:56

Got rid of 2 bags to charity, hurrah!

but… we’ve been away and the house is a bombsite 😂

Anyone else feel so bogged down with the day to day stuff (washing up, laundry, picking up kids mess, wiping down the sides, putting hoover round etc) that they never get to the hard core cleaning and decluttering? The house is like an onion and finding it hard to get past the first layer.. 😬

Maitri108 · 16/04/2025 21:05

I've been very lax and haven't really done anything. I've got to sort out the wardrobes and really can't be bothered.

Yes, just keeping on top of things feels like it's enough.

Hey fellow sloths!
Not much achieved as worked loads last week and on holiday this week. Hoping to get a bit done Easter weekend. I seem to be able to get motivation for decluttering but none for the deep cleaning bit!

Yes this is me. I never seem to get past the day to day stuff. Have managed some decluttering lately which has really helped but although I clean every day I never get much time for the more thorough stuff! You are not alone!

PlodAlongPolly · 17/04/2025 11:14

Ah helps to know am not alone @Stuffocation and @Maitri108 !

If I could just ship my mess makers out for a couple of weeks could do the whole lot I reckon! I feel like that cleaning bot in WallE! 😂

steppemum · 17/04/2025 17:42

I'm with you Plod, every day stuff feels likeyou shoudl end up with a nice clean house, but you know that just beneath the surface (or behind the sofa) it really isn't clean.

And now I want to spend Eatser weekend out in the garden, so no more house cleaning.
and the patio windows still haven't been done!

Maitri108 · 17/04/2025 21:19

I did some work on the bedroom today. I have some stuff to sell on eBay. I hate selling things.

Hello can i join in please? Fellow drowning sloth. I drew in the dust on my hallway window today and realised enough is enough. Why would I play noughts and crosses with myself rather than just clean?!

Oh absolutely! The high traffic spots get done but you just know there’s so much more needing doing. I need the magic combo of motivation, energy and time to tackle it! The clutter building up makes it harder too, would love to make more progress in this area.

Same as you I want to be out more especially when the spring weather picks up. Must remind myself of this, and try to tap reserves to try and tackle more cleaning/ sorting before the nice weather is here to stay. Will want to be out in the garden or out with the family and not stuck in doing the house at that point! 😆

Well done!

I’ve got a load of stuff for EBay too, sitting in a box in the cupboard (where it has been for over a year..oops 🫢)

I know. I don't often sell things because of the hassle but these are quite expensive items.

I'm going to try and finish the bedroom today.

I am going to write some Lists partly because it is motivational and partly because I'm away from home so I'm not able to .

I did the Pre-Christmas Clean-a-Long which really helped to focus things.

I have left my (adult) DC instructions to vacuum the hall which is the main carpeted area . DD does her room
They're doing their own laundry so keeping that ticking over

My Lists then:

Order a pack of oven cleaner - I like the Elbow Grease one . I have a massive sink so they fit in OK.
Massive sink is an ongoing nightmare though as it's a resin granite in champagne ( IKR - what was I thinking?) But the rechargeable whirly brush thingie can take care of the sink .
Shelves/ bottom of oven can clean overnight when I'm home . The door gets cleaned with fine wire wool and some cream cleanser (Elbow Grease again) when I.m bored as I sit on the floor to do it rather than bend .

Clothes to get bagged up and put in the house attic ( those vacuum bags) mainly anything left over from putting away winter clothes.

I recycled some electricals earlier this year , we used to have a shop that took them but its gone and charity shops won't. Curry's do though .

I've got a couple of kitchen items that I keep putting back in the cupboard but they are on the To Go List

Dogaredabomb · 18/04/2025 20:26

I've cleaned a window, planted some pansies that needed done. Also I brought a box of photos in from the shed and went through it carefully chucking and sorting. I have a lot in the shed (moved house last year so I need to finish the last shreds of unpacking). I also wiped the microwave.

Dogaredabomb · 18/04/2025 20:27

I need to keep working carefully on the shed and store room making sure that everything I brought with me is sorted, chucked, donated or sold.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/04/2025 14:09

Our patio slabs need pressure washed, I usually do this every year but I cannot remember doing it last year 🤔 maybe that's why they are extra grubby.

So that's another thing on the list.!

Dogaredabomb · 19/04/2025 15:01

Two boxes sorted, labelled, resealed and put back in the shed. Two more windows cleaned and a table properly polished.

Dogaredabomb · 19/04/2025 15:04

That just leaves 50 million things to do 🤣
