Spring cleaning for sloths

I need to deep clean my place if anyone wants to join me. The thread will just consist of people saying what they intend to do and letting us know when it's done at a leisurely pace.

I've done some of the bedroom. It's slowly getting there.

3 windows, front door and two radiators. I also put something on ebay. Repurposed a very pretty tin and put all the dogs tablets and scissors etc in it. It's really helpful reporting in!

Bad news is that I've noticed that the tiles behind the hob are disgusting.

Great stuff. I use a strong solution of soda crystals and hot water for kitchen tiles.

I haven't done anything today.

I'll try that! Also in the sun I've just noticed that the windows are smeary 🙄

I fell off this thread as I have been travelling. But I cleaned and sorted out my pasta, pulses and rice cupboard yesterday.

I still do not know how you all spring clean in nice weather. It's so boring!

I have a lot of paperwork to get through, really.

Georgeismydog · 21/04/2025 17:56

I cleaned the windows...

mathanxiety · 21/04/2025 19:02

Nice thread - thanks OP!

I need to clear out and clean my fridge and freezer.
Mop floors and do skirting boards.
Clean the bathroom walls including a section that is beadboard, which I hate (landlord interior design decision, not mine).
Dust all bookshelves and the top of all the books. I have bought slime to do the books with.
Find a home for all the stuff and nonsense that people have dumped on the bookshelves.
Clean the oven.
Clean the spotlights above the oven.
A general dusting and polishing that will be necessary next weekend.

Well done everyone! True to my sloth self I still haven't done what I planned to do last week. DH has been plastering and sanding so my motivation to clean is low. Will have another crack tomorrow when the kids are back at school.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 21/04/2025 19:38

Went round lots of annoying skirtings and mouldings with hoover brush attachment, and did same with built in bookshelves and books to dust tops of books. I feel this is the quickest way but I might have to replace the wee brush attachment as it is getting slightly worn with all this use. Love it though - great for the Lazy Winner approach to cleaning!

Find a really dirty bit where you’ll see a visible difference! Ha.

Start small and chip away. Day by day you'll get there.

Got my tall son to do two windows I can't reach. I supervised so I'm claiming it as my work.

Thank you, I was proud of that.

I get my tall DD to hang up the shower curtain and my tall DS to take it down to go in the wash .
As I am the shortest in the family and can only reach on tiptoe ( risking cramp)
They do mutter " is this why you had children "?

Anything over 5'3" is just nonsense, wasteful. Tall ds (I also have an envious short ds) says can you not reach because because you're short or because you're fat? I shrug 🤷🏼‍♂️ slothfully.

Dogaredabomb · 25/04/2025 18:46

Reporting that all windows are now done. I've also mopped the kitchen, hallway, bathroom and toilet. I had carefully bought floor tiles where you actually can't tell if they're dirty or clean but, I've done it.

Maitri108 · 25/04/2025 18:46

I've been chipping away. Bedroom has been cleared up now.

I need to clean the bathroom and kitchen floors and the window frames.

OP posts:
Dogaredabomb · 25/04/2025 18:48

Ah, I'd forgotten the bathroom 🙄. Thought i was finished. Although I did wash the tiles behind the cooker.

I have some plants to pot so that'll take about a week 😂

Dogaredabomb · 25/04/2025 19:58

I've taken a bag with cloths and window cleaner to the car and if anyone wants a lift, they have to clean. Any whining and I pull over and stop driving. I need to find a car interior spray.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/04/2025 13:50

Washing - all sorted into various batches ( dark regular/dark delicates /light regular/light delicates /whites )
So far I've done 3 loads and our bedding (12kg machine ) and got a load in at the moment
There is so so much to do (holiday washing and whatever is in the baskets .) I'm sure the Empty Washing Basket is a myth !

Vacuumed bedroom and landing I was going to do the stairs but I decided to wash the filters so they need to dry . DS helped do the cats' tray and clean the floor and I've just given him a bag of papers to shred . To say he was delighted would be a big fat lie , but he'll plough through it .

After dinner the bins need sorted for tomorrow .

Over BH weekend I will sort out clothes for storage/charity bag ( I have started this )

And that is quite enough for now Grin

@polkadotmonstera

Please!

Things I want to clean:

Windows
Woodwork - doors, windows, skirting boards, frames etc
Bookcases
Top of all cupboards
Shelves
Picture frames
Floors including moving furniture
Light shades
Kitchen cupboards
Headboard/bed eg mattress and valance
Cobwebs
Hallway

For some reason I read that as egg mattress not eg mattress!

Antonania · 29/04/2025 15:11

I've not only fallen off the wagon, I've also rolled down a nearby deep dark pit.

But no matter, something is better than nothing right? This weekend & today I've not been spring cleaning but I've done other stuff that all counts - all the washing, changed the beds, some batch cooking, 2 loos and sinks. I'm off to deep clean the DW then back to my original task from a couple of weeks back - inside 2 kitchen drawers & outsides of top kitchen cabinets.

Maitri108 · 29/04/2025 15:12

I've hoovered today. I'm afraid that's it.
