Spring cleaning for sloths

I need to deep clean my place if anyone wants to join me. The thread will just consist of people saying what they intend to do and letting us know when it's done at a leisurely pace.

I haven't been very well but am still doing what I can. I hope those following the thread are still getting on with things.

I'm chipping away at things. Today I sprinkled bicarbonate of soda on the carpet to freshen it up.

Over the weekend I managed to give away a load of things I've had in storage for ages. I've cleared the loft; not as impressive as it sounds as I only had a few things in it.

I need to clean the radiator in the bedroom and the window.

I hope everyone is enjoying the weather. 🌷

Have slipped back a little into sloth mode, am blaming issues with teens and working. However bought a new storage basket for wardrobe to sort out jeans and leggings etc, will have a good declutter of clothes later hopefully. Planning a really easy dinner so I have some extra time to do a few more deep cleaning tasks too.

Sounds like a plan. I need to sort out the bedroom. Am aiming to do it this week.

Oh I need this thread.
I finally washed the kitchen floor last week.
I honetsly cannot remember the last time it was actaully washed (rather than just swept) we have a dog and there is a permanent muddy patch by the back door.

I did the utility room and downstairs loo floors at the same time.

Was a great feeling, except I just realised how much else need cleaning.

I'm not making a list.
But I am going to attempy windows....

I hate cleaning although it makes me feel good once it's done. I need to clean this weekend house is dusty AGAIN. bathroom needs cleaning too. I don't feel very motivated.

I know how you feel. I've been decluttering and spring cleaning for ages and I looked around the other day and the place is a mess.

It feels neverending and it's pretty thankless. I'm hoping it's going to miraculously come together.

This is a very welcome thread with me! Have a rare day off in a an empty house tomorrow and trying to decide what to prioritise in the 4ish hours I will have - declutter office, deep clean oven or clear out kitchen cupboards

hideawayforever · 27/03/2025 19:09

It just seems hopeless when it'll be dusty again within a few days, wish I could afford a cleaner.

Hello! I'm glad I saw this thread. I want to clean the windows. I've been meaning to do it since I moved into this house the summer before last.
I'll be back in another 18 months to let you all know it's been done.

Feel exactly the same!

Solveago · 28/03/2025 07:14

Have been following this thread and now decided to use it to motivate action rather than just read it.

Moved into a large and rather grubby house last year and although I started well, have lapsed into sloth mode. Will report back on my achievements.

Oh me too, everywhere I look theres dust, all skirting, doors, picture rails, even walls need a dust/clean. light fittings, windows, cooker, it just feels too overwhelming. I try to keep on top of the bathrooms and tidying, but that's it.
I'm going to try and do an hour a day of dusting/cleaning.

Do you have a soft brush attachment on your Hoover? I use this to Hoover EVERYTHING ratger than “dusting”- it doesn’t take very long …
also a v thin tube extension thingy from Amazon to get into space next to washing machine / inside radiators etc … again saves SO MUCH time .

(not that I do it very often but when I do it is v effective and satisfying)

I had one but they were rubbish at dusting despite promising to do it so I just save the money and do it occasionally myself - it looks the same!

I’m seriously in sloth mode 🤦‍♀️

I did use anti mould spray on the shower this afternoon though, I’m counting that as a win <clutches at straws >

Sounds like a win to me.

I washed my summer duvet and bedspread.

Ooo can I join please? Just found this thread and really needing motivation to get started. The house is a clutter-filled filth festival! There is so much I just don’t know where to get started.

Have sorted out kids books and Lego storage and that’s it so far.

Think I might try clearing surfaces first, stuff is so piled up and dusty. Need to find proper homes for things or clear them out/ charity shop.

ShockedandStunnedRepeatedly · 30/03/2025 12:05

Just noticed the amount of dust behind and under my son‘s bed… plus all over open shelving - too much tat on it! Deffo need a clear out in there but he refuses to part with anything …

It’s really hard when they won’t part with stuff isn’t it?

I was thinking of getting a big cardboard box out of the loft as a ‘bye bye’ box and putting it in the garage, adding in stuff that has been outgrown and not played with for the longest (including plastic tat from the fronts of kids magazines etc) and giving it a few months. If nothing is missed donate to charity.

I am too sentimental though and keep all the kids drawings/ paintings etc! An absolute ton coming home from school and nursery too! 😂 🙈

steppemum · 31/03/2025 14:04

well I haven't managed to do any windows, but I did finally sort out 4 bags of things that have been sitting waiting for me to put them away since February!
So that's good.
And I mowed the lawn. Does that count?

Moving off the sofa counts. I feel exhausted reading it.

I've arranged a charity collection for some items. Have packed things away in the bedroom but have yet to clean radiator, shelf and window.

Had a really good afternoon, the sunshine helps.
I have large kitchen window with a window sill full of plants. Which means that behind and under the plants it is a state (mould, stains and cracking paint) The window blinds are dirty too. And sink in front of window, so lots of splashback.

So, all plants outside, window frame thoroughly cleaned, tiles and grout bleached, glass cleaned, blinds down and scrubbed outiside. Sink scrubbed, and gunky bits round the bakc of the tap cleaned.

Then I looked at the clean windowsill that was all cracking paint and I decided to paint it!!!

Which all sounds amazing, but it took all afternoon and that is just 1/16 of the kitchen done. And one window (well two as I did the back door too) out of ....
12.

Maitri108 · 04/04/2025 19:17

@steppemum Amazing how you can get on a roll! Great stuff.

I haven't done much as I'm still having work done in the bedroom.

I've organised everything for the charity collection and am waiting for them to contact me for an appointment.

Today a load of stuff was collected for charity and I'm organising a kitchen cupboard.

I've had the outside of the windows cleaned - they look much better.

I need to book a bulk collection for a load of stuff I can't get rid off.
