Spring cleaning for sloths

I need to deep clean my place if anyone wants to join me. The thread will just consist of people saying what they intend to do and letting us know when it's done at a leisurely pace.

@Stuffocation There's no rush.

@TheCatterall my own vinted pile is similar..well done for being ruthless with yours.

Last night I cleared some expired bits and half empty packets from pantry, hope to do a bit more tonight while cooking dinner

Today I have moved the Christmas box into the attic. Normally I get them done and dusted 6/7 Jan but this year has been busier than usual. Still, it's before March, so that's something...

Maitri108 · 28/02/2025 19:45

I went rogue yesterday and cleaned:

Washing machine
Plug holes
Fridge
Oven

Don't worry though, nothing got done today. However I ordered some bicarbonate of soda and magic sponges.

I was actually watching this video the other day and it did inspire me to declutter. I think the best way to keep things is to clean as you go and not let things pile up. I would love to be a minimalist though. I just have too many sentimental items that spark joy.

I'll check it out.

Have totally lived up to the spirit of this thread. All I have done is clear a dish rack ( which quickly filled up again) and wipe down the microwave. Those are daily chores, not spring cleaning.

Today I am going to attempt to clean out just one kitchen drawer. Just one.

Maitri108 · 01/03/2025 12:28

@Lentilweaver Sounds like a plan. You might find that drawer organisers help.

Today I refilled my bicarbonate of soda pots. I have one in the fridge and one on top of the fridge to absorb odours.

I also received my oven liner which I'll put in the oven.

I'm thinking that I might tackle the skirting boards this weekend. We'll see.

I cleaned out 2 kitchen drawers and am now recuperating in the park with an icecream!

Wayheyy!! That's progress!

I'm thinking about doing the bathroom skirting boards...

OP posts:

I've only gone and done it. I've done the bathroom: skirting boards and door.

Window and mirrors at some point...

OP posts:
Maitri108 · 02/03/2025 13:42

I'm looking to do the landing today: skirting boards and bannister.

A month ago I cleaned my house to within an inch of its life because we were selling it and it's absolutely filthy again. I think my house needs a monthly deep clean.....although I suspect that is because I am not cleaning enough day to day because we are too busy.

Totototo · 02/03/2025 13:48

Being a sloth is a new phenomenon to me as before my kids left for Uni I was quite proactive now I just CBB’d 😂🤣

Bought an electrical cleaning brush from lidl start on showers tomorrow!

hideawayforever · 02/03/2025 14:40

I haven't done anything since my big clean because I had a visitor, I obviously need to invite someone else to.my house to motivate myself 😂

Maitri108 · 02/03/2025 15:05

We'll get there.

I have done some of the bannister.

RumNotRun · 02/03/2025 15:08

Another sloth here. My excuse is that I have an army of cats and therefore they are to blame for the mess. I have two robot vacuums but rarely use them as there are always cat toys on the floor.

I did wash my curtains the other day. It took a few days as they claimed to be dry clean only so I washed one at a time so if it went wrong I wouldn't have wrecked all of them. I didn't realise this is something people do regularly. I'm not even going to admit how many years my curtains have been up and not been washed.

I have bought a old fashioned scrubbing brush to try to clean my kitchen floor properly. It's an original quarry tiled floor and I think needs some elbow grease to properly clean it, mops are rubbish compared to a good scrub.

Maitri108 · 02/03/2025 15:10

@RumNotRun Try soda crystals and very hot water on the floor. I could never get my floor clean and this worked.

Ooh thank you, I will give that a go when I (eventually) tackle the floor!

Maitri108 · 03/03/2025 14:21

Yesterday I cleaned the bannister and hand rail. I dusted the skirting boards and will attempt to clean today.

Yesterday I cleaned two windows and washed down the landing skirting boards with soda crystals.

Today I'm going to dust the bookcases and clean the upper windows. (I'm a sloth so I only did the windows I could reach).

I've arranged for a window cleaner for Friday.

sounds like you've done a lot. mines all dusty again now after my cleaning last week. will try and get motivated to dust again in the next few days. This house is such a dusty house, I'll never be able to keep on top of it.

I am chipping away at it. I've done one bookcase. I have loads to still do.

Good luck with the dusting.

Today I managed to clean the radiator in the sitting room, both bookcases and I dusted the skirting boards.

I cleaned some ornaments and dusted a shelf. I also cleaned the TV. Haven't done the top windows.

Tomorrow I'll clean the bathroom and kitchen floors.

You've done loads, you are risking losing your sloth status!
I have managed to carry on decluttering and have taken stuff to the charity shop and sold items on Vinted.
Otherwise it has all stalled for me as working, medical appts for kids and general life admin have taken over this week. Hoping to get a bit done tomorrow and the weekend is free so hoping to tackle some proper cleaning.

Don't worry about stalling, it sounds like you're doing great. Decluttering is so important otherwise you're cleaning around junk.

I didn't do anything today. I'm fully sloth; I clean something then rest for an hour with a tea.

I need to do the floors, that's my next goal.
