Does anyone iron anymore?

I don't iron everything but I do iron DC uniform, anything baggy that has a crease, like shirts or baggy trousers etc...I have stopped ironing bedsheets as what's the point? Is this bad? I have heard people on morning shows discuss this in recent months, some saying they haven't ironed anything in years. What do you all do?

Not for many years. I do have steamer I use when I sell on VINTED.

FionnulaTheCooler · 19/09/2024 16:09

I iron clothes but I've never ironed a bedsheet in my life.

AuntieMarys · 19/09/2024 16:09

Yes I do. It's the only housework I do really! I've always enjoyed doing it...mind you it's just 2 of us.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 19/09/2024 16:11

My DH does his work shirts, But thats it. My mum is horrified I don't do them for him, but its his fault for getting a job that requires shirts!!!

Nourishinghandcream · 19/09/2024 16:35

Yes, we iron everything (underwear excluded).
Apart from making the clothes look better, bedding and towels sit better on the shelves when ironed to within an inch of there life!

We share the ironing equally and tend to have a good session while watching something on TV. The other day I got through two episodes of Midsomer Murders and this week my OH watched three episodes of Death In Paradise.
Ironing basket is filling up again so will check through the DVD's for a good film or series.😁

I never iron unless absolutely necessary! But I do love the look and feel of ironed things. If I could magically snap my fingers and everything was ironed I’d love that. So I guess I am bothered by non-ironed things but I have too much on my plate to realistically worry about it. It does look and feel smart though.

landris · 19/09/2024 16:39

DH does ours. I gave up on wearing anything that needs ironing years ago, mainly so I never need to iron my clothes, but his shirts and trousers need doing, and he irons the sheets and pillowcases etc as well.

RedRobyn2021 · 19/09/2024 16:39

No

almondfinger · 19/09/2024 16:43

I iron all my and DH cotton shirts. They look so much better.

I iron linen and also pillow cases.

Everything else gets well folded st from the rack or the line.

Sharpkat · 19/09/2024 16:50

I iron everything (except bras and microfibres cloths) - tea towels, dish cloths, dusters, socks, absolutely everything gets ironed. I only used to iron work clothes, but since Covid (when I had plenty of time), it has just become my norm. Can do a king size fitted sheet, king size duvet cover and six pillowcases in less than an hour. I find it relaxing and can justify watching tv without feeling guilty.

Hayley1256 · 19/09/2024 16:52

No, I use a hand steamer instead

UtterlyOtterly · 19/09/2024 16:52

DH irons. He does his shirts and anything of mine that he thinks needs it.

Ironing bedsheets is daft.

Tulip2478 · 19/09/2024 16:54

Yes! I iron for me, husband and 3 kids. It takes hours each week no joke! A chore I could do without with on top of everything else, in all honesty!

Boredlass · 19/09/2024 16:54

Yes because I hate wrinkled clothes. Steamers don’t work

AnnaMagnani · 19/09/2024 16:55

No because I pay someone else to do it.

DH will iron his shirts but he takes hours as he is so fussy.

If it wasn't for his shirts there would be minimal ironing.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/09/2024 16:55

Hama beads. The only reason I have an iron.

YorkshireIndie · 19/09/2024 16:55

I iron during work meetings that need me to listen but not participate in (please no this is why working from home doesn't work comments). I have zero time in the evenings and weekends. My H irons his clothes but not to my level (swear he just waves the iron over it and it doesn't make contact 😂😅)

ClaudineMallory · 19/09/2024 16:56

I iron most things. It makes the clothes look so much better. I hate looking scruffy. My clothes tend to be natural fibres, though, and I have to be smart for work.
.If you wear leggings and hoodies or polyester dresses there's probably no need.

MightyGoldBear · 19/09/2024 16:57

Nope haven't ironed for so many years. Don't even have a ironing board.

My MIL irons socks and underwear 🙈

ZiggyZowie · 19/09/2024 16:59

Nope, just. fold everything carefully

Mmr224 · 19/09/2024 17:00

I iron for weddings, funerals and job interviews, where we might be wearing suits, shirts or for al dresses etc. Other than that I rarely iron.

thistimelastweek · 19/09/2024 17:01

I iron clothes that really look better for it but here's how I halved my ironing in one fell swoop.
I only iron the front of stuff. Not even joking.

Hedjwitch · 19/09/2024 17:01

I used to when kids had school uniforms, but rarely do now. Just a couple of tops for work. Have never ironed towels, tea towels, bedding etc.

stayathomer · 19/09/2024 17:03

I don’t iron but I’m also a bad cook so even though I’m 44 and have started to get my cleaning in gear, I very much feel like I’m not adulting properly 😭

MayaPinion · 19/09/2024 17:15

I ironed something on Monday, but that was the first time in about 2 years. The iron was on top of the wardrobe and had a thick layer of dust on it.
