Does anyone iron anymore?

I don't iron everything but I do iron DC uniform, anything baggy that has a crease, like shirts or baggy trousers etc...I have stopped ironing bedsheets as what's the point? Is this bad? I have heard people on morning shows discuss this in recent months, some saying they haven't ironed anything in years. What do you all do?

I hate ironing with a passion but hate crumpled clothes and non sharp creases more. Iron every weekend incl bedding.

ClemmyTine · 19/09/2024 17:41

I do. Don't like slatternly creased clothes and hems slatternly hanging down.

RaspberryBeretxx · 19/09/2024 17:43

No, pretty much never. Even DS’s school shirts come out ok (M&S non iron). My mum was looking after my ds when he was about 4 and he didn’t know what her iron and ironing board were 🙈. He did learn to iron at cubs though and quite enjoyed it!

Farmersweeklyreader · 19/09/2024 17:45

I iron everything apart from towels & underwear.
I love getting into freshly laundered & pressed bed sheets. We mostly wear jeans, t shirts & hoodies for work. These are all ironed, even the oil stained & holey things from welding sparks gear. All the baby clothes are ironed, it just looks neater.

Cricketsandowls · 19/09/2024 17:48

Yes, I iron linen and cotton, pillowcases and tea towels! I don't want crumpled pillowcases or crumpled linen clothes.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 19/09/2024 17:50

DS1 took my iron when he moved out and I haven't missed it. On the back of this thread I just bought a hand held steamer for emergencies.

isthismylifenow · 19/09/2024 17:51

Everything is ironed , except underwear.

I don't do it myself though admittedly.

I'm not a fan of the crumpled look.

Bananalanacake · 19/09/2024 17:59

Yes, I let it pile up and do it every 3 weeks when watching films. I also need to sort the kids clothes into neat piles so I can put them away.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 19/09/2024 18:04

I iron all the bedding (super king). I hate how it looks otherwise. Abd yes, it does still look better after we've slept in it abd yes it does feel different. I experimented with not ironing it but I didn't like it.

I iron anything that looks better for being ironed.

I like ironing, I just use the time yo watch something

Fundays12 · 19/09/2024 18:07

I iron nothing but DH irons everything including my clothes. He is particular about ironing things especially school uniforms. I would barely run an iron over them so he took on that chore which is fine as I do loads of other things

Nope nothing. Used to be just DP work shirts but now he wfh that's not an issue and DC have the no iron M&S shirts that I hang carefully.

Only get iron out to put patches on knees or hem curtains!

schnubbins · 19/09/2024 18:17

I do . I like natural fibres for clothing and bedclothes so there is quite a bit of ironing especially in the summer.i have no idea how anyone cannot iron anything at all but to each their own.

Powderblue1 · 19/09/2024 18:26

I always iron but never my bedding.

Normallynumb · 19/09/2024 18:29

I've ironed nothing for decades
I tops on hangers so any creases drop out
I only wear natural fibres
Life's too short in my opinion

StrugglingGrief · 19/09/2024 18:30

DH does his shirts I have an handheld steamer for everything else

MsNeis · 19/09/2024 18:33

I don't iron. Anything. 😬

teatoast8 · 19/09/2024 18:39

I've never ironed.

Cattery · 19/09/2024 18:41

Only get the iron out if someone needs a shirt ironed. Then I discovered the local dry cleaners will press a shirt for a very reasonable price so no, I don’t do any ironing. Bedsheets??? Stop it

Beautifulweeds · 19/09/2024 18:44

Only school uniforms and smart work clothes really. X

I iron most things - including bedsheets, tablecloths, tea towels etc. And clothes, obviously.

I prefer the way they look, the way they feel - crisp ironed bedsheets are lovely - and the way they fit neatly in the drawer.

And I find ironing really quite relaxing, there’s something very satisfying about turning a crumpled jumble of clothes into a neat, geometric pile. I tend to listen to podcasts while I am doing it, so it isn’t really a chore.

My Mum and my Nannas did the same, piles of ironing, even pants and Bedsheets! We've become lazy, less pride, also the materials are softer and less creasing etc. Xx

Very very rarely iron. Never school uniform. Occasionally something for work but try to avoid buying things that need ironing. My mother ironed everything. Tea towels. Underwear. And she had 6 kids. I had to do a lot of that ironing, maybe it turned me off.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 19/09/2024 18:49

I outsource ironing. There’s nothing better than getting into a bed made with fresh, ironed bedlinen. Especially as the cleaner changes the bedding when he comes on Thursdays and Mondays. It’s like staying in a hotel 🤣🤣

unsync · 19/09/2024 18:53

I only use my iron to press fabric or seams when I'm sewing.

AlloftheTime · 19/09/2024 18:53

I fold or hang instead
