Are you needing some guidance with routines and keeping up on housework? This is the thread for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Disclosure: I'm going to give you all a heads up, this is a very busy month for me, so please bare with me. I'm going to do my best to keep the house under control during this time, being thread leader is probably the best way for me to do this!
If I get quiet, I apologise. I also apologise in advance if I post too much!

Flylady is all about just jumping in where we are, you're never behind and everything comes around again in a month!

This month I'm going to try to add some colour. I'll try for every day, but we'll see how this goes..

I'm going to try to add a picture of some flowers in my garden every day. Feel free to add your own!

Thanks @HazelNotHungryLC - your comment on the previous thread about not getting things planted out on time is what's keeping me busy too, I have been at the allotment a lot over the last couple of months. Lots to plant out still but the weather is so cold and damp they aren't as big and strong as I'd like and a lot of slugs about. Half those sunflowers I planted out a couple of weeks ago have succumbed.

CabbageBearGoat · 01/06/2024 07:48

Checking in! Hoping, as ever, to be more on top of things this month.

SleepingIceDragons · 01/06/2024 11:14

I took on an allotment and it is very.... nature has claimed it as her own. I need to plant seeds as too late for starts. but mostly just clearing it atm. I would happily spend all day playing in the mud but there is other stuff to be done. Hopefully going to get to another hurry up and wait point on the building work this week end. But in order for that to happen that is going to have to take my attention, time and energy.

Thank you for the thread last month ED
Thank you for taking on the thread this month Hazel

Hello! I need to get back on the wagon. Can’t remember when I last posted, but things have changed a lot in the last few months.

Firstly my (D)H did move out, he finally found a place a short bus ride away and that’s all going well, Caglets are adjusting to spending some nights there etc. We aren’t officially split or anything, just seeing how it goes (he got a 1 year lease on the flat) but I am so much happier.

The other big news is that I’ve just left my job! There were various things I wasn’t happy with (a few colleagues are planning to leave too) and it gave me the push to look at setting up on my own (basically writing/delivering training which I discovered I am good at!). No idea if it’ll work but I have a year, financially speaking, to try and make a go of it.

It has been an intense few months with all these changes, I’ve been unwell a lot and I’m exhausted! But I’ve also just finished uni for the year (halfway through now!) and I really want to focus on looking after myself and my house now.

So I’m back. Haven’t used MN for a while but I miss this thread and I need accountability 😁

Hope everyone is ok! 🍒👋

DoctorDolittle · 01/06/2024 12:25

Hi guys, can I join you all? I really need to try something significant to help my housework - and years ago I did the shining the sink every night and it did make me feel so much brighter.

Today, I’m trying to enjoy the garden with the kids and not focus on the tonnes that needs doing - rather, appreciate what I’ve already achieved. It was completely bare grass when I moved in four years ago and now it has two apple, a crab apple, three pears, a mulberry and multiple flowering cherry trees, a Rowan (bird gift), an ash tree, sea buckthorn, two Kilmarnock willows, some elder, a hornbeam…plus loads more!

Summerfreezemakesmdrinkwine · 01/06/2024 12:33

Hello, can I get on board too, please? I need more routine and less fuss. I keep lurching from being super organized and show home clean and tidy to living in a chaotic pit. I need something to level me out.

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 01/06/2024 12:42

Mucked up my new name, typical. Try again.

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/06/2024 16:07

ED not the sunflowers! 😢
Thank you for running the May thread.

Cabbage welcome back 👋 it seems I start out with good intentions, then life gets in the way.

Dragons I do hope the building work gets done quickly & more efficiently than it seems to have been going up to this point 🤞

Sing so good to see you back on here! I've been thinking about you lately, wondering how things have been going. A lot had changed for you, it seems for the better too, which is very good! That's exciting to start your own business, I really hope you are successful with it (it sounds like you will be).

@DoctorDolittle welcome 👋 the more the merrier! It sounds like you've achieved a lot in your garden. It also sounds so tranquil with all those trees!

@Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine welcome to the thread 👋 Flylady should be able to help you level out, keeping your house from CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) to acceptable & welcoming.

I forgot to post about Saturday being Family Fun Day last night. There's no missions as it's the weekend, thankfully!
I'm sorry, I'm already failing as thread leader!

With today being the 1st of the month, we start the Baby Steps all over again. So today we should shine our sinks.

Here is the link for all of the baby steps: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/
It also includes day one, shining your sink. There is a link on a detailed step by step process on how to do this, although as with anything on flylady, there is no one right way to do this.

Thanks for last month's thread ED. Sorry about your sunflowers, that's sad, they're so pretty 🌻

Thanks for the new thread Hazel, lovely flowers. Sort I'm not posting much these days, I'm having problems with the site and find using MN to be a PITA. I shall endeavour to chat here when I'm able, can't have you feeling lonely! 😓

Fingers crossed 🤞 for you achieving your aims this month Cabbage

Hello and welcome Doctor (your garden sounds great 🌴🌳🌲) and Summer (I find posting here to celebrate the wins, however small, and wanting to have something to post about, does help. I hope your house becomes calmer soon 🏡)

You have been missed Sing. Happy for you that H has finally moved out and glad Caglets are adjusting. Good luck with your new business venture, exciting times 🍀

Congratulations on your new allotment Dragons, I hope it brings peace and tranquility into your life. And food, of course, nothing beats the taste of home grown 🥕🥦🥒🥔

Not a good start for me. Today I did absolutely nothing

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/06/2024 04:51

Ditzy it's not a problem that you did nothing, we all need days like that sometimes!

Ta das: (sunflowers chosen to honor the loss ED has gone through 😢)
🌻 LOLs x2
🌻 baked lavender cupcakes (GF so DD can have some) for the wedding in 2 weeks 😱 I froze them so all I have to do is make the frosting and frost them the day before
🌻 made an attempt at lavender cheesecake again (no crust) and put it in cupcake liners instead of a springform pan. Adding lavender buds makes it so you can taste it, but I don't think I need to add as much next time
🌻 rotated DW
🌻 handwashed dishes x2
🌻 shined my sink
🌻 planted some more plants outside in the back garden, so that's now done (I still have more to plant in the front)
🌻 pulled weeds in the back garden
🌻 scrambled at dinner time and we all had different leftovers since I hadn't gone grocery shopping yet!
🌻 showered & feel so much better

Sunday is renew your spirit day. This can mean going to church, reading a book, taking a bath, going out for a walk, for just a few examples. Whether you have a busy day or a quiet one, try to do something for yourself for a few minutes.

Baby Step: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-2/
Get dressed to shoes. This means you are ready to go out if you need to without having to spend a bunch of time getting ready. Do this 1st thing in the morning. It's a good motivator to get things done, instead of feeling lazy in pj's, although nothing wrong with that every once in a while.
Don't forget to finish your day with shining your sink!

Thanks for the welcomes back, and also welcome to new joiners! This is such a friendly place 💕

YesTaDa (yesterday’s ta da list as I forgot to post it)
✅wrote a list of everything I need to get done before going away with DD1 on Monday evening… and then ignored it because exhausted 🤣
✅cleared front half of kitchen (counter and sink/drainer)
✅gave slow cooker (unused for months so gathered dust) a really good clean
✅scrubbed it properly and replaced appliances
✅rotated DW
✅did a small grocery order (an expensive way to do it as it comes from the more expensive local shop, I really must get more organised)

Still exhausted today but absolutely have to get lots done before tomorrow evening. Must get some kind of motivation! I’m a bit overwhelmed.

power of 3
🎯message DD1’s friend’s mum to check plans for tomorrow (she’s giving us a lift to the summer school, then I’m staying up there with them for two nights and bringing them back on the train)
🎯ring hotel to see if we can leave bags there on Wednesday
🎯check through freezer and ditch anything that isn’t going to get eaten or has freezer burn etc

Will also get DS to fill the dishwasher. DD1 is at work - actually that’s another thing that changed! She’s got her first weekend job, at a local roller rink - absolutely loves it 🤩

SleepingIceDragons · 02/06/2024 10:54

Did not want to be awake this morning. Running on exhausted atm. A huge long list of a to do list. going to go play in the mud for a few hours (have a deadline) and then will get the stuff done in the house. Lets see how much i can get done today.

ta da
1 load of laundry on

SingToTheSky · 02/06/2024 14:03

Doc your garden sounds amazing!

I have a tiny garden and other than H planting a few miniature fruit trees we’ve not really done anything with it since moving here in 2018 😳 a very lovely friend who helped us move also insisted on getting us started with painting the fences but we didn’t even finish that. I really want to make a big effort in the house this year so that next year I can focus on the garden! There isn’t room for much but I would love to add some colour and life to it.

po3.2
🎯give WM seal a clean and then put a towel wash on
🎯empty my backpack and pack some stuff (we are only going for 2 nights so I won’t need much)
🎯find out if friends are going to a home ed meet tomorrow as I might take Cagletini for a bit

Optional extra
🎯try and stay awake 😩🤣

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/06/2024 16:34

I forgot to mention last night that we didn't go camping in the end! DH & DS went out for a ride on the motorcycle to see what spots there were available on Friday night, there were only a couple and more people were showing up. They would have all been taken by Saturday!
On Friday night we did have a fire in our firepit, we planned on doing the same last night, but didn't feel like it in the end.

Dragons have fun playing in the mud today!

Sing that was a great ta da list!

I'm in the process of putting a meal plan together for the week so I can go grocery shopping today. I'm going to rope DH into helping me in the front garden today at some point as well.
I may be able to fit in redoing my nails & self tanner, but we'll see.

I just had a quick look on the Flylady app and it looks like she's going to have us jump in to zone 2 since we started the month on the weekend 🙄

I would say if your porch and entryway needs a sweep, do so today (only spend 15 minutes doing this), and if anything doesn't belong, spend another 15 minutes putting that stuff away.
Otherwise it seems we will be jumping straight into the kitchen tomorrow!

DillyDeclutter · 02/06/2024 19:26

Hi, I read along in May and joining you for June if I may 🙂

I am quite good at decluttering but tidying and sorting got forgotten in May amidst a busy time at work and a Vinted selling boom. Luckily we have weekly cleaners, but I am guilty of only tidying the night before they come.

Off to spend half an hour in our conservatory which is actually a glorified porch!

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 02/06/2024 21:51

Welcome Dilly

Great hanging basket Hazel mine looks quite sad by comparison, two of the plants I put in died

Ta-da's:

🥀 Morning routine
🥀 Home blessings
🥀 Extra LOL
🥀 Practiced doing some fancy eye makeup
🥀 Exercise
🥀 Manicure, my hands were looking quite shrivelled and old
🥀 Cleaned my good jewellery
🥀 Evening routine

SingToTheSky · 02/06/2024 22:18

Didn’t do any of my second power of three… managed to stay awake but pain levels are as high as energy levels are low 🤨 and I won’t have time to go to the home ed meet tomorrow anyway. Getting picked up earlier than I thought! Really grateful we are getting a lift there though (almost 2hr drive, the train journey home will be much longer with changes) - might just have a nap when we get there 😳

ta da
✅LOL
✅emptied DW (DS then filled it)
✅checked plans for trip away
✅paid exam fee (DS tap)
✅emptied coat pockets of old receipts etc (grim! 😳)
✅emptied freezer of stuff I won’t use (also pretty grim tbh)
✅put dry laundry away (already on hangers)
✅hung up wet laundry

So much to do tomorrow!

HazelNotHungryLC · 03/06/2024 04:48

Hi @DillyDeclutter 👋 welcome to the thread!
That sounds like a great start already.

Ditzy I've actually lucked out this year and my plants are looking amazing! (So far.. as long as we keep watering them they'll be okay - we're in the desert basically and the sun gets brutal here mid summer)

Sing that's a great ta da list! Even though you didn't get that other set of PO3 done, you've achieved a lot today!

Ta das:
🌸 meal planning done for the week
🌸 grocery shopping
🌸 finished staining the bottom of the new planters
🌸 had DH help me place the planters
🌸 planted the rest of my plants 🥳
🌸 had to buy another big bag of soil
🌸 had DS rotate DW
🌸 handwashed dishes
🌸 wiped countertops and sink

I'm currently drinking my bedtime tea 🍵
For those of you who may not be aware, I'm in the US, and 7 hours behind you! (I'm a brit who moved here 18 years ago now).

Monday is home bleugh (or home blessing as flylady likes to call it). Quick vacuum around, change sheets, empty bins. This should only take an hour total, not a thorough job. It can also be done on a different day (I do mine Tuesday's - and I take longer than an hour 🤫). It can also be spread across the week.

Monday's mission is to put out the hotspots in the porch, entrance and dining room. I was wrong about jumping into zone 2, and I'm very happy about that actually!
To put out the hotspots, put shoes away where they belong, deal with any mail that may be gathering by the door and anything at down on the table. This should be a quick job, set a timer for 15 minutes and be done.

Keep shining your sink, getting dressed to shoes and today she wants you to explore the website. There is a LOT of information on there, so please do not become overwhelmed.

Hi everyone.

Apologies for disappearing at the end of May, things got a bit crazy! Will try to read through and catch up with everyone later.

Thank you to ED for running the thread last month and to Hazel for starting this one. Appreciate your efforts even when I’m not posting.

We went camping with extended family at the end of last week and it was lovely. Weather could have been a little warmer but it stayed dry and the kids had a fantastic time. Today I’ve been mainly catching up on laundry! Have managed a quick home bleurgh too as well as popping to the shop for a few bits and doing my meal plan for the week. I need to make a start on dinner before getting the final
lol out and doing the school run, dp has to eat early tonight as he is out at a match and we are going to the library after school to change our books so won’t have enough time to cook in time for him to eat if I don’t prep it now.
