Are you needing some guidance with routines and keeping up on housework? This is the thread for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Hoovered under the sofa cushions, it was satisfyingly crunchy although disappointed as I only washed the covers a few months ago - where does all the grot come from?

Dusted all the high places in the sitting room - pictures, curtain rails, tops of window frames, tops of doors (yuck) and top/behind TV (double yuck!). Curtains probably need a wash. Maybe tomorrow.

CabbageBearGoat · 26/06/2024 23:01

Mostly stayed upstairs today as it's cooler (?!) so nothing in lounge today. Recently dusted everything though when we did our Big Rearrange so I don't feel too bad! Hoping to do some proper flying in the lounge tomorrow as it's not supposed to get above 20 where we are.

Today's done list:
Car admin
10 mins tidy chest of drawers
Emptied out rucksack from prev. holiday
15 mins office desk tidy
Prepared new eBay listings x6

HazelNotHungryLC · 27/06/2024 06:04

Thursday is errand day.
Thursday's mission is to look down. Vacuum in the corners and edges of the living room. Wipe the skirting boards as well.
Get behind and under furniture as best you can, do not hurt yourself and ask for help when needed (or leave it be if no help is avaliable).

What's for dinner? Plan ahead your meals. I try to do my planning for all meals for the week and work on my grocery shopping list (I tend to do this on the weekend).

Sorry for lack of personals, I'm super tired tonight, it's been a long day 😴

Ditzy it was lovely to get away! Clothes shopping sounds fun, did you get anything nice?

Dilly well done on zone cleaning! I wish I knew where all the crumbs and crusties come from. I can't remove my sofa cushions, but still have creases they appear in 🙄

Cabbage as I was typing out today's mission I thought of you and the fact you already did it when rearranging your living room!

YesTaDas:
🍪 dropped DS off at band bootcamp
🍪 worked all day
🍪 dropped off donations at local charity shop
🍪 dinner at ILs (BIL has family visiting from NZ and they leave today, so a farewell dinner for them)
🍪 baked blondies for a birthday potluck today at work
🍪 got my clothes out for the morning
🍪 fell into bed, late, as I was so tired!

Pulled everything out and hoovered the hidden corners of the sitting room. It's been a while! Also washed the curtains, and opened the windows to get some fresh air in. Turned out the sash weight hook had perished so had to get DH to do a quick mend around his WFH. Oops.

I'm pleased to see most of the baby steps are things I already do. Have been meal planning since I was a skint uni student trying to live on £10/week!

Am definitely appreciating the thread and missions so thank you all especially Hazel.

HazelNotHungryLC · 28/06/2024 05:53

Dilly I'm glad you're also in a routine of doing a lot of the baby steps already. Meal planning really is useful, creates less waste & you save money!
You're welcome! I'm still fairly new at being a thread leader (we take turns).

On that note, we are reaching the end of this month, quite quickly might I add!
Is there anybody available to run the July thread?

OP posts:
CabbageBearGoat · 28/06/2024 05:59

@HazelNotHungryLC I was wondering about taking a stab at running a thread... If there's no other more seasoned volunteers I'd be happy to give it a shot 😊

HazelNotHungryLC · 28/06/2024 06:10

Friday is clean your car & purse day.
Friday night is date night.

Friday's mission is to put out your hotspots. Anything that is put down in a hurry and doesn't belong, put it away. If you're unsure of what doesn't actually belong (because these hotspots tend to blend in so well), try taking a picture of your room, it will stick out like a sore thumb!

Baby Step: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-28/
Spend 15 minutes on yourself! Set your timer, read a book, sip on a yummy drink in the sunshine (if you have any), apply a face mask, whatever you would like to do, but do something for yourself

fell off the thread. But i learnt things.

🐉when i am about to hit a full on decision fatigue the first sign is an inability to figure out what is for tea
🐉when I am at my most frustrated and have no idea where to start, someone will always say well you don't let anyone else do stuff no, i expect you to do the stuff you say you are going to do, but you don't and someone has to do it. take your damn chores back i never wanted them
🐉Insurmountable tasks are my nemesis
🐉I need a holiday so i can get the important shit done without interruptions, failing that I need everyone else to take a holiday and leave me here so i can get it done without interruptions.
🐉I want my damn bookshelves back so that i can find my books when i want them!!!

Things i have to get done before monday:
🍄prime the plaster ready to take paint (3 coats of varying paint/water dilutions)
🍄Paint 1 coat base and 2 coats top on said primed area
🍄sit down with ds and talk financial planning and management tools
🍄send SLC letter
🍄Send birthday card
🍄wrap birthday present
🍄attend retirement party
🍄find my kitchen - mount washing up more, floor of why the fuck can't people clean up what they dropped, and benches of this shit has homes put it way people!
🍄Laundry
🍄Weather permitting wash duvet and hang out on line
🍄winter veg starts
🍄Salad starts
🍄collect the fruit that needs prepping ready for jam making later in the year (prep and freeze)
🍄charge car battery and speak to mechanic about new battery
🍄file financial and car paperwork in a safe place until i get my shelves back and can find my files
🍄sort out CPD record
🍄Speak to professional body
🍄 register for course for CPD
🍄attend training sessions over weekend
🍄hoover throughout the house
🍄mop kitchen floor
🍄disinfect bathroom floor
🍄Clean bathroom to my standards not the half arse standards of others
🍄Contact company re- information
🍄Consult experts to resolve an allotment problem
🍄clean out car, hoover it and wash it

Bloody hell, that isn't even half the list! No wonder i feel over whelmed. I think coffee, meds, clothes and lets see what i can get done <sigh>

HazelNotHungryLC · 28/06/2024 13:28

Oh man Dragons that is a whopping list! I'm assuming you have it all figured out what actually has to be done first and what can wait if you don't have time? I really feel for you and wish I lived closer to come help you!

OP posts:
SleepingIceDragons · 28/06/2024 15:22

It does help that i have until end of the day on Monday to get all that done. So that is something. And i have now done a bit of it, and it is only 2 of us in the house tomo afternoon so that is really going to help.

No idea why that is in italics <shrug>

it will be fine. But i will need an early night tonight. And there is a whole heap of stuff that will be done by now. Car is on charge and I have already got a couple of loads of laundry done already. So anything is possible. <shrug>

@HazelNotHungryLC I was wondering about taking a stab at running a thread... If there's no other more seasoned volunteers I'd be happy to give it a shot 😊

I’m one of the more seasoned thread leaders (on and off for 15 years!) and will always do it if no one else can, but honestly, I find it hard keeping up the enthusiasm levels nowadays (I do love these threads even if I don’t post much some months but I get a bid jaded with the actual Flylady system). I think the thread really benefits from newer posters doing it in between the regulars as we all have different perspectives on the system. So I’d really like it if you did it! ❤️

HazelNotHungryLC · 29/06/2024 00:13

Cabbage I completely missed your post! I'm so sorry! I would love it if you could run the July thread. As ED said, it's like a breath of fresh air when someone new takes over.

OP posts:
CabbageBearGoat · 29/06/2024 06:37

Oki doke. I'll get that all set up over the weekend ready for Monday. Thanks for the votes of confidence @HazelNotHungryLC and @EasilyDefined 😁

HazelNotHungryLC · 29/06/2024 07:01

Cabbage thank you again for volunteering for July. If you need any assistance at all, don't be afraid to ask.

After work we started working on getting the pool set up and started to fill it. We will finish filling it tomorrow. I'm excited!

Saturday is family fun day.
There are no missions on the weekend.

@CabbageBearGoat thank you. I forgot to mention that I always find I stick to the system best in the months I do the thread leading so that is a definite benefit!

SleepingIceDragons · 29/06/2024 10:38

So far this morning the words " a lack of planning on your part does not make an emergency on my part"...

I am fed up of this building work chaos. I am fed up of being the family brain.I will probably look back at the fond memories from this era in the future (like looking back at the toddler years of the kids) but right now i feel a wander down to aldi and a fry up for lunch might be the answer. A good solid meal always improves the mood!

CabbageBearGoat · 29/06/2024 19:15

@SleepingIceDragons I love that phrase. I'm never quite brave enough to say it to the people (at work) who need it... maybe that's for the best 😁

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 30/06/2024 00:39

Ta-da's from the past few days.

🌳Usual routines and exercise
🌳Digging up bulbs whih have finished flowering and I want to replant next year
🌳Planting bedding plants in place of the bulbs
🌳Fixing broken furniture
🌳Swept patio
🌳Bit of decluttering
🌳Emptying out an entire drawer to go through and only put back what I'm keeping and what fits, the rest will go
🌳Reading
🌳Went to the park
🌳Went out with a friend
🌳Dyed my hair (brown this time)

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/06/2024 07:30

Dragons I do love that quote, even though I have a hard time sticking to it and feel like I should help get things back on track.

Ditzy I should go through my wardrobe and try everything on. I'm getting to the point where I'll stand and look at my clothes for a few minutes, grabbing items, putting them back. I think I'm bored of a lot of my clothes, so it's hard to put an outfit together when my favourites are out for wash.

We had a busy day today (Saturday):
🎆 breakfast out with MIL & DS (it was in the park, an event to kick off the 4th of July celebrations).
🎆 bought pool noodles for the springs on the trampoline
🎆 DS & DH got the new trampoline pad on the trampoline
🎆 finished filling the pool
🎆 watered flowers & grass
🎆 harvested more rhubarb
🎆 cooked rhubarb & made a crumble with raspberries as well
🎆 rotated DW
🎆 handwashed dishes
🎆 wiped countertops & sink
🎆 LOLs x2
🎆 deadhead roses
🎆 went to ILs for dinner (I brought the dessert)
🎆 watched the fireworks from ILs house

I feel like I accomplished a lot, but I'm very tired now, it's so late here!
